Alcohol bottles and drugs were reportedly found in Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon’s hospital room during a surprise visit by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday, Express News reported.
The chief justice visited three hospitals to check on imprisoned politicians, including Dr Ziauddin Hospital where Memon is under treatment. Justice Nisar met the PPP leader briefly and personally photographed alcohol bottles and drugs.
After the visit, Memon’s room at Ziauddin Hospital was sealed and he was shifted back to jail.
The provincial minister is accused of embezzling around Rs6 billion while heading the provincial information department.
After Ziauddin, Justice Nisar visited Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) where Hussain Lawai and Anwar Majeed, accused in the money laundering case, are admitted. He observed various items in Majeed’s room and confiscated a few records.

Justice Nisar then reached the apex court’s Karachi registry and met Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Anwar Mansoor. During his meeting with the AGP, the chief justice discussed his hospital visits and asked Mansoor to note of items found in Memon’s room.
“We found alcohol bottles in his room. When he was questioned, Memon said they were not his,” the CJP told the AGP.
