@OP pretty good line-up although Gavaskar and Sehwag will be awkward
 
Sehwag is the best test opener , common the guy has two triple centuries and 6 double hundreds and has a strike rate of 81 . He scores most of his runs in subcontinent but still is much better than Anwar.

Inzamam must be in the team and Dravid should be there in place of Miandad

Sanga doesnt keep wickets in tests.But okay if you want him.

Tendulkar hasnt ever played at no.3.Dravid is one of the best no.3 batsmen ever.I think he has the second highest runs at no.3 after Ponting.
 
Reasonable XI in the opening post, I would move Miandad or Imran up depending on the situation. No Dhoni for me though, ever. This is an all time XI, I'd rather see Sanga (he did use to keep once upon a time) keep or Rashid or Moin.

Have to disagree strongly with Kumble being there as well, no need for him if you have Murali there. I'm not very fond of Murali tbh, but his record would get him into an Asian XI. Would replace Kumble for Kapil Dev even, though I'd much prefer Akhtar :).

Alright then, we'll put Miandad at 3. The streetfighter doesn't complain about batting positions. Will bat anywhere for the team. :jm

Check his record in SA,Eng,NZ & against :asif
 
Younis will be competing with players such Dravid and Sangakkara for the slot 3 and both of them are better than him.
If there was no Dravid or Sangakkara , younis could be a serious contender

Same with Sehwag , he is better than any of the openers

I agree, but nit picking random stats is rather pointless. Especially if we're talking about what they average against each other. If its an All Asia XI they won't be playing against each other, will they?

Right but someone suggested that Sehwag is weak against Pakistani bowling attack hence i mentioned that stat

No, no. They meant Asif specifically. I believe Asif has had Sehwag's number on a few occasions.

Sehwag is a superb batsmen though the results of a full strength Pakistan squad vs. full strength India on a fair pitch would be interesting. Sadly, most the series we played with Sehwag were played on absolute roads.

Credit to him for almost overhauling our totals by himself though.

I know you said you didn't consider records but I think that is quite important. Based on records any of Dravid, Inzi, Yousuf, Younis, Ganguly, and Laxman should be ahead of De Silva

I may have been little biased with De Silva and Sehwag's inclusion. Big fan of their game. Sehwag's a weapon you'd love to have and De Silva had a lot of heart, big situation player

Very good team, but I would have changed Dravid with Zaheer Abbas.

Replace Kumble with Akhtar and Dhoni with Sanga(as much as I hate his guts, he's a class above Dhoni) and you have the mother of all lineups.
 
Question: Could an All Asian line up beat an everybody else XI? I certainly think so.

Sanga is a better batsman no doubt but he refuses to keep wickets in tests.

I guess it will always be a toss up between Kumble and Akhtar depending on the pitch.

Anyways Wasim Waqar and Imran specially Waqar can do everything that Akhtar will/can do and better.
 
btw my team above would suck at fielding. lol

none of those players r famous for sprinting or catching blinders (besides dravid in the slips)

These are test and not ODis, can not have a keeper like Dhoni. the best man with the gloves needs to be there.

The classiest batsman in the world right now and a profilic test run scorer, also, whenever hes kept wickets, hes been as secure as a house, so no question about it

No doubt over his ability with the bat or with the gloves, would definitely be in y team as well.
 
For me, it was a toss between Dravid and Inzi and even though Dravid has been more prolific than Inzi, sometimes you just gotta back your match winner, and in a side full of prolific scorers, you have to select a match winner, because you can afford to amongst all the consistency
 
When selecting best XIs, I tend to play batsmen at the positions where they have batted most successfully and for their teams. Changing batting positions of batsmen where they were not successful at or never batted for their teams is not the way to go as far as I am concerned.

@people questioning zaheer khans selection, u guys should know that zaheer khan bowls on super flat pitches and with no support bowlers. he has a excellent record and is amongst the top 10 fast bowlers of all time

y cant u guys accept the fact that india has also produced a few world class fast bowlers. we indians easily accept the fact that pakistan has produces world class batsmen

Well guess what, theres a reason why Pakistan has a better test record then India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, probably combined.

Exactly. Not sure why everyone is questioning the decision. Zaheer Khan, imho, should be the first name on the team sheet.
