"Already told team management there will be no points for 2nd place against S Africa":Saleem Yousuf

PCB Cricket Committee Chairman Saleem Yousuf: “The PCB Cricket Committee carried out a holistic but constructive, fact-based and objective review of the Pakistan men’s cricket team in the past 16 months. There is no denying the fact that we all want to see our side ranked amongst the top three or four cricket playing nations and our recent performances do justice with neither those expectations nor the talent we boast.

“Nevertheless, we also need to take into consideration a number of other factors and the committee was of the view that cricket during the Covid-19 pandemic was one of the biggest contributing factors in the side’s dismal performances. The challenges of playing in Covid-19 protocols have not only been faced by the Pakistan men’s national team, but by all the sides presently involved in international cricket and these concerns have been regularly raised by the team coaches and elite cricketers.

“All professional and high-performing athletes require an environment where they can prepare their best for the international stage, which was not the case for the last two tours and most definitely not at the last tour where players had been confined to their rooms for two weeks due to the policies of that particular Covid-free country.

“As a consequence, Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq and Shadab Khan were unavailable for Test selections after Fakhar Zaman had missed the flight on the day of the departure. These big loses affected the team combinations that, in turn, resulted in the side’s overall below-par performance against a side that remained unbeaten in the past two-and-a-half years.

“Notwithstanding these disadvantages, the PCB Cricket Committee strongly believes team selections and choice of players in the playing line-ups should have been made better. The committee also believes more scientific and data based work needed to be done on the players with improved communication to not only prepare them for the bigger challenges but by also identifying players who can back their performances with other capability trades in a high-competitive environment on a consistent basis.

“With the important home series against South Africa only two weeks away, the PCB Cricket Committee will conduct another review after the conclusion of the same. However, it has already been relayed to the team management that there will be no points for second place.”

The noose tightening around Misbah and Waqar.

We demand a 2-0 victory!

It would be damaging to our cricket in the long run if we do win 2-0.

But we do need to restore confidence in the public that we do have the resources to win against a good side like South Africa. With New Zealand, England and Australia all set to tour....we need to be reassured that there is enough talent in Pakistan to still make it a formidable home side.

Otherwise Bangladesh may pose more of a threat in world cricket than we do.

Not sure what exactly can Misbah and Waqar do to turn things around rapidly. In fact tbh it is Waqar who had a lot more to explain because it was our bowling which has been performing below par in England and New Zealand and this is not his first coaching stint.

I guess its high time Pak team starts winning the series rather than worrying about who remains in the management or the team. Cant afford to keep on loosing matches as an excuse kick management and number of players out.

If the cricket committee and management is pro active then despite the results they will think about the overall shortcomings of the management to take any decision. A decision for long term should be made rather than changing decision after every other series.

The is no stronger medicine than a win. There shouldn’t be double standard here either - Arthur’s team lost two series by 4-1 margin in UAE, then lost (or failed to win) like 23 of 29 ODIs including a grand show in Asia Cup. And, his Southern Hemisphere tours were nothing better either.

If Misbah’s team indeed wins 2-0 against SAF, they (including him) should be given due credit. And, it’s good for PCT in the long run - no matter who is coach.

What does it exactly mean?

Roll up those sleeves and get putting in the work now. To be honest this South Africa bowling attack barring Rabada isn't experienced on Asian soil so there should be no excuses to do better.

Thier bowling isnt experienced but they have a good attack with nigi rabada notije and their spinner

This statement equals - sort out the mess, the team selections and the performances and win the series against South Africa or you are out of a job.

Wishing your team to lose regardless of situations is never a good thing.

Should always pray to win regardless of so called long term benefits or blessings in disguise.

Yep it is a good attack but some of those bowlers you mentioned i wouldn't rate really highly like Ngidi (i think he's overrated), Nortje might be a handful but i hope that Pakistan won't be troubled by bounce on this pitch. Some of the players who have played on this ground should know it like the back of their hands.

What about local fielding coach? Can he be compared with Steve dixon?

yes if they have any grass on the pitch or any movement south africa will be to good so i hope they create dust bowls.

Not really. To me it seemed like, win against SA and all will be forgotten

If they win against SAF - Misbah and Waqar will get due credit but I expect some changes to the team after the NZ tour..

Disappointing, just a political statement, annoying. Same as Misbah, he is also blaming cobvid 19 for teams miserable performance. Also blaming absence of players like Fakhar and Imam for the loss.

Very disappointing statement from Yousuf, blaming covid 19 for the miserable result shown by team under Misbah's coaching . I have a feeling he will be another spineless, yes man Committee chairman.

Andy Flower replacing Misbah as head coach would be the best thing to happen to Pakistan cricket, he would actually be the best coach in Pakistan's cricket history.

Saleem Yousuf is himself one of worst player played for Pakistan. How can he deliver better service to improve Pakistan cricket?

He was one of the parchi cricketer played for Pakistan. You cannot expect better performance when people don't have any skill/talent to do the job.

I definitely don’t have any sympathy for Misbah, but you have to think, if he’s sacked after this difficult SA series, the guy coming in next will have all home series. There are only two away tours, to WI and Bangladesh, which are both fairly winnable.

I think Kirsten would be the ideal appointment, but not sure if he would take the job. Flower is definitely the best option in terms of who we can get.

It would be damaging to our cricket in the long run if we do win 2-0.

Pak will win Test nd T20 series against SA nd MISBAH WAQAR combo will stay till WORLD CUP 2023.

Misbah will do the job himself. People are taking SA for granted. I don't see us winning much against them. We have a chance at Karachi but do we have the bowlers to take 20 wickets ? Naseem Shah's performances were crucial in our home test victories against Srilanka and Bangladesh. Now with the current bowlers, it will be much more difficult to win against a better opposition i.e SA.

It would be damaging to our cricket in the long run if we do win 2-0.

And if we don’t win, we will hire a wizard who will turn this talentless side into world beaters and make them win invincible?

Pakistan has the capacity to beat South Africa at home. They are not very strong at the moment and if Pakistan produce the right wickets and bring Yasir into the equation, it can win the series.

Why would you not want to win a winnable series?

Sick of hearing this garbage for the past few years. We are a bad team. Nothing is going to improve or change if we keep losing. Take whatever wins you can get and be thankful. Right now losing has no benefits. Winning however will atleast keep public interest and viewership high

Í think the circus will continue no matter who the coach is. We will win the home series and continue to get whacked when we travel. Vicious circle.

Right and losing to big teams would keep the viewership alive too? No one is stupid enough to enjoy these victories when we know our team is not good enough to give a fight against stronger teams.

People will say minnow mentality is wanting to win even if your team won’t improve. I disagree. True minnow mentality is getting so used to losing and being so deluded that you think it’s better that we lose as long as long as it allows for some future improvement. Future improvement that is not going to happen

isn't it good that new guy is given a chance to settle with easier home series and that he has more time to prepare for difficult overseas series?

make rank turners and give the series to SA :-D

Lol I bet Misbah will come out in public that if he was allowed to have multiple easy series for a year, even he would have had a settled squad going into tough series against Australia, England, New Zealand
