We all know Mohammad Amir was playing non stop International cricket since his comeback in 2016 and was only given a break last year in September when he was going through a lean wicket taking form only in ODIs. Before that he was fatigued, was low in confidence and was getting minimal swing yet his pace was high back then being between 140-148 Kph.

After he returned to domestic cricket and worked on his bowling with his former club coach, he is getting more swing comparatively but pace has reduced by 5 Kph atleast, yet this too could be international to avail greater swing or because of that chickenpox he had, as he still can crank it up which was shown against England where he bowled few deliveries between 142-145 Kph.

I know his stats were good to decent in T20Is ever since he returned in 2016 and in Tests in last 2.5 years when fielders started taking catches of his bowling, but in ODIs he had a dip in form.

Also, the sample size is low after his return from last year but what would you make of these numbers and changes to his bowling?

Tests: 3 Matches 12 Wickets Average 23.5 Eco 2.67 Best 4-62

ODIs: 7 Matches 12 Wickets Average 23.6 Eco 4.98 Best 5-30

T20Is: 1 Match 3 Wickets Average 9.0 Eco 6.50 Best 3-27

PSL: 9 Matches 13 Wickets Average 19.7 Eco 7.4 Best 4-25

He is also the highest wicket taker for Pakistan across all formats since then with his combined figures being:

11 Matches 27 Wickets Average 19.80

He is a gun bowler.

And he will get only better inshaAllah.

He is going to be like Chaminda Vaas like bowler. I will be happy if he reaches that level in test and ODIs

People expected him to be like next Wasim Akram but they need to lower the expectation.

Dude take it easy.
OK no Wasim but Vaas?

He can't handle too much cricket, his and all our pacer's workload needs to be managed

Haters hiding in a cave since the World Cup started.

Like I've been saying, he's our premier, best bowler - even at his worst he was much better than others.

Now he's good but even now he's not at his peak - he's scary good! Damn good!

Ian Pont tweeted that maximum swing is available between speeds 79-84 mph (127-134 kph). Most likely why he is bowling slower is because he wants to try and swing the ball more, when he's not swinging it now he's trying to float the ball a bit more and use variations to get the batsmen. Very clever bowler and Inshallah he keeps these performances up.

Amir would be extremely lucky to reach anywhere near Vaas who has almost 800 wickets and a friggin ODI 8for, one of the best new ball bowlers from the subcontinent.

Are you saying that Amir achieving what Vaas achieved is bad? Vaas was a seriously good bowler and was one of the primary reasons after Murali that SL were so competitive during his playing time. I can remember pretty clearly the # of times Vaas recked our entire top order!

Amir requires such conditions to shine or do well. Eng, Nzl, SA are ideal place for him to perform. In UAE, i would rest him to be honest. Plus amir has to find more speed, and he has to deliver in Test Cricket, if he cant then we should drop him from Test and bank on a new bowler.

Vaas was a gun bowler with over 700 wickets (400 in ODIS alone) at 27.5. I'd be happy if Amir got to that level.

When your standards drop, you adjust your expectations accordingly. Mohammad Amir floating it & trying slower ones instead of letting it rip (which he was doing so easily in the CT17 Final) makes me wanna cry. 😢

Even though he is bowling well, he needs to pick top-order wickets for us to have any chance of making it to the semis. Even against AUS, all his wickets came very late when the batsmen were trying to slog. He is good but still needs improvement.

He needs another bowler who can help put pressure on the batsmen which leads to early wickets. Shaheen conceded too many runs against Australia in the first 10 overs.

Agreed. Asking Wahab to share the new ball with Amir is worth a try against India. If they can get 2-3 wickets inside first 15 overs, it would be really interesting.
