What's new

Any Manga/Anime fans?

First time I watched it I stopped at 5-6 so much I found it low-paced (about to say "boring"). Then came back to it 2 years later (considering the reviews) and I can say it's one of the best animes out there.

That's what I need.. some motivation!

Right now it's on my "watch when nothing better to do" list

Hopefully I am in for surprise

RWBY is a top series, It barely counts as anime (if at all), but has amazing fights and choreography. Would recommend, though it's very goofy in the first couple of seasons. It peaked at season 3 imo, but season 4 and 5 have massively improved the animation and have created lots of potential for world building.

It doesn't have a manga that follows the story and isn't Japanese, I think it's considered the first American anime ever, and has won lots of awards. Also if you do start to watch it, it's not very episodic, so binge watching it is the best method as it feels more like a movie at points.

Reading graphic novel called "maus" & loving it.

Never read any manga. Please recommend something for me.

I am interested in detective stories, epic fantasy, crime investigation genres etc.

I have finished Death Note, FMA, FMA brotherhood, Naruto Shippuden, Blood, Attack on titan, Soul Eater, Dr Stone, Murder and now watching Hunter X Hunter.

Watched my hero academia but it's way too lame. Naruto copied a lot of bits from Hunter.

Promised Land and Vinland saga are good too. One punch man season 1 was excellent, season 2 was saved by Garuo.

Can anyone recommend me a few other animes?

In the mid 2000s when i was in high school (Tantei Gakuen Kyū) or Detective School q was the best , by far.

Other than that if you haven't watched Deathnote you can read it.

I didnt like Castlevania, it's just awful. The voice actors are terrible and come off over the top. The last air bender was nkt too bad. Will give gantz a shot bro, thanks brother Jabed.

Beyblade was my most favorite anime.

Omg beyblade!! Brings the memories of 2011 back to me as a 10 year old. Loved watching Gingka take down Ryuga... And I liked his supporting characters like Kyu, Hikaru, Ken... Just some names I remember.

That was the last anime I ever watched.

I was referring to old school Beyblade (first three seasons).

Beyblade 1, Beyblade: V-Force, Beyblade: G-Revolution.

G-Revolution was pretty good.

Oh yeah, back in 2011 I wished to watch those older ones but I couldn't find them online. I watched Beyblade Metal fushion - which was good.

I checked out Metal Fusion a bit but it didn't seem as appealing as older Beyblade seasons.

I think you should watch the first three seasons.

Death note is a really good show to get into anime and it was also one of my favourites when I watched it years ago. I rewatched it recently and I realize why it gets the criticism that it does. It is unfortunately very inconsistent despite its short length. The great moments are amazing but there is a lot of average stuff especially after the first few episodes. Still a solid 8/10 I would say. Theres a lot of amazing anime out there and you’re missing out by restricting yourself from any type of art because you don’t like it’s style. Whether it be anime, rap music, video games or whatever

Will end very strongly as the source material is goated after s3. I personally prefer Subs as the Japanese VAs are better at conveying raw emotion. Hopefully, the new studio can keep up the good work. There has been a lot of questionable CG and Animation will never get to the rights that s3 had but it's still solidly directed.

Watching attack on titan

Awesome

Started from the avatar series and this is my second anime show

Any similar anime shows?

More story driven than just action like in one of those goku b* series

Death Note is the only anime I have watched (because I cannot stand anime animation) and it was amazing. One of the best shows I have ever watched.

A show like Monster might be up your ally. I feel like you'd be able to appreciate it, despite it's slower pacing.

Steins gate, monster, demon slayer, great teacher onizuka, attack on titan, ping pong, one punch man, FMA Brotherhood, psycho pass, Vinland saga, code geass, hajime no ippo, fate zero, dororo, Baki, great pretender, one piece

The anime I plan on watching over the next few months. In that order.

I like death note too.

I would recommend Vinland Saga. Unfortunately, it hasn't been dubbed in English yet but English subs are available.

I don’t see the point of watching anime in dub. I watched Death Note on Netflix and they only have sub available.

I know a lot of people prefer it in dub. I watched a few scenes on YouTube and I couldn’t stand it.

The Japanese voice acting is so natural and realistic, and I don’t know why you would want to listen to the characters speak English, that too with an American accent, when the show in Japan with Japanese characters.

In that case, definitely watch Vinland Saga and let me know if you like it or not.

Also, I have only seen Death Note in English. I thought the dub was quite good. In fact, dubs have gotten a lot better now. It's my preferred way of watching since sometimes i like doing other things while watching tv shows.

I watch everything subbed but death note has an amazing dub. One of the few anime about which I’d say it’s up to the viewer to decide.

On YouTube, I saw the dub version of Light meeting Ryuk for the first time and I found it corny and over the top.

Ryuk had the typical generic monster/evil guy voice which was contrary to his chilled out character.

Code Geass is one of my favourites, would say though, if you plan on watching the 2019 film after the two seasons, you should know the movie follows the recaps and not the episodic seasons, so there's some differences in events.

I mean I can understand your point here with Death Note, but some anime, like Cowboy Bebop, aren't set in Japan and have fantastic dubs that in my opinion, surpass the sub, which become more iconic to the show than the original voiceover. I suggest for certain shows you give the dub a go, I usually watch a mix of sub and dub because I think it's highly dependent on the context of the show and the quality of each specific dub/sub than a rule for all anime.

After a two-and-a half year hiatus, renowned Spanish producer Manuel Cristobal has returned to toon production, joining the team behind animated feature project “The Glassworker,” directed by Usman Riaz, and created by Pakistan-based Mano Animation Studios.

“The Glassworker” marks the first hand-drawn animated feature from Pakistan. Scheduled for a 2023 release, the project is tipped for a big fest WIP berth in the upcoming months.

Targeting family audiences, the film is set in a location loosely inspired by Pakistan, telling the story of young Vincent and his father Tomas, who run the finest glass workshop in the country and find their lives upended by an approaching war in which they want no part.

The arrival in their town of an army colonel and his young talented, violinist daughter, Alliz, shakes their reality and tests the relationship between father and son.

The love that develops between Vincent and Alliz is challenged constantly by the differing views of their fathers. It is a time when patriotism and social standing are considered more important than free thought and artistic pursuits. It is a time when love is just not relevant.

“In ‘The Glassworker’ I found a film with a Japanese animation style and very moving story with hints of ‘Doctor Zhivago.’ The studio has a very professional team and, perhaps above all, a true author – Usman Riaz. He is indeed the driving force behind ‘The Glassworker’ and Mano Animation Studios,” Cristobal told Variety.

“I have devoted my entire career to discovering new talent and new directors and I have to say that I was taken aback at the quality of the project when we were introduced by a common friend,” he said.

“Usman not only developed the story, but also took part in writing the script and the score, on top of creating the storyboards and directing the film. I am excited not only by ‘The Glassworker,’ but this being the first film by Usman Riaz – a new voice worth discovering. We are now actively looking for partners to make that happen,” the Spanish producer added.

For Cristobal, “The Glassworker” marks a big new professional challenge. “One of my proudest accomplishments is when Ghibli bought my film ‘Wrinkles’ and distributed it in Japan. This was the first and only Spanish film Ghibli bought. Ghibli and Japanese animation are admired worldwide and ‘The Glassworker’ is a love letter to them, but with its own unique point of view.”

“The project involves young talented people, from a studio with an average age of just 27 years; 52% of them are women. It is a project full of surprises that encourages diversity in animation,” he said.

Usman Riaz first fell in love with Studio Ghibli and Japanese animation at a very young age, and recently fulfilled his dreams by founding – alongside Khizer Riaz and Mariam Riaz Paracha – Mano Animation Studios.

The Pakistani studio now employs a select group of talented artists working to produce “The Glassworker.” The team has built a collaboration network that extends to Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, Peru, Argentina, the U.S. and the U.K.

Cristobal has produced to date 11 films, eight of them animated features. He has twice won the Jury Award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival: In 2012 with “Wrinkles,” directed by Ignacio Ferreras, and with Salvador Simó’s “Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles” in 2019.

The Madrid-based producer has also snagged five times the Spanish Film Academy Goya award and won the European Film Academy EFA Award and the Platino Award -all in the best animated film category.

He executive produced 2018’s “Another Day of Life,” by Raúl de la Fuente and Damian Nenow, which went on to win the EFA Award and premiered at the Cannes Festival.

Since Sept. 2019 Cristobal has been responsible for audiovisual industries in the Madrid region -”I accepted with great enthusiasm, aware that there was a lot to do, including setting some goals,” he said.

Capitalizing on his experience, as Madrid’s regional government raised its support for animation, Cristobal has been able to increase the budget for projects by 89% and create schemes such as Madrid For The Goyas that allowed short films from the region to win in all three categories two years in a row.

He also created the Madrid For The Oscars program that supported the Oscar winning short film “The Windshield Wiper,” by Madrid’s Alberto Mielgo.

I'm surprised to see that there's an animation studio in Pakistan that's developing an anime movie. And It actually seems like a high quality project, which is surprising considering the fact Pakistan barely has an animation industry. Hope they can deliver.

Did some more research about when this movie is coming out and apparently it's coming out in 2023 according to a project flyer on their website.

Used to watch quite a bit of Anime when I was younger, Dragon Ball was my favourite, followed by Pokemon, Yugioh and one piece.

Used to be hooked on Anime back in the day. Watched pretty much all the big ones, Bleach, Naruto Shippuden, Death Note. And before that the Dragon Ball series, Avatar, Initial D when I was a kid.

Now I only watch One Piece as I'm already too much invested into it. Hoping Luffy becomes King of the Pirates soon lol. Left it off at whole Cake Island saga which was pretty awesome as it was Luffy's first real encounter with one of the four Emperors. Will pick it up again once the next saga is complete and binge watch all the episodes

Dragon ball is way overrated. Found to be very boring to be honest.

Pakistan's first hand-drawn film, Mano Animation Studios' The Glassworker, is among eight feature films from all over the globe selected for the Work In Progress category at France's Annecy International Animation Festival 2022.

"It is truly an honour to represent Pakistan at Annecy 2022. To have our first feature film, The Glassworker, on the same stage as so many incredible and inspiring animated films that have come before us is genuinely humbling," said Usman Riaz, the director.

Calling it an amazing opportunity, he said this will open up avenues for expansion in the animation world. "To be the first hand-drawn feature film to come from Pakistan and for it to be acknowledged by our peers is extremely encouraging. I love the craft of animation more than anything in the world, I have dedicated my life to it. With Annecy Work in Progress, we are in the incredible position to share my love for the craft with the most outstanding studios, artists and animators in the world."

The Film Festival is recognised globally and is always on the lookout for anything that stands out in the world of animation. The Work in Progress list determines and narrows down films bursting with the potential for future awards and box office success. Some of the high-profile films that have made the cut include Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse, Klaus and How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Usman's feature film is an original story about young Vincent and his father Tomas, who run the finest glass workshop in the country and find their lives upended by an impending war in which they want no part. The arrival in their town of an army colonel and his young, talented violinist daughter, Alliz, shakes their reality and tests the relationship between father and son.

Annecy Work in Progress will be a 75-minute detailed showcase to industry professionals on Mano Animation Studios and The Glassworker.

Renowned Spanish producer Manuel Cristóbal will be joining the team. Calling Usman "a new voice worth recovering," he was moved by the story and taken aback by the quality of the film. He called the director the "driving force" behind the project, saying he was excited for the film and the fresh voice breaking through.

Inspired by Japanese animation film studio, Studio Ghibli, Usman followed suit and founded Mano Animation Studios in Karachi alongside Khizer Riaz and Mariam Riaz Paracha. He adopted Ghibli's co-founder Hayao Miyazaki's hand-drawn animation preference that's revered by people all over the world for The Glassworker. “One of my proudest accomplishments was when Studio Ghibli bought my film Wrinkles and distributed it in Japan. Wrinkles was the first and only Spanish film Ghibli bought," he shared.

The Glassworker project involves young and talented artists with a median age of 27 years and 52 per cent of the team is female. It's been described as a project full of surprises that encourages diversity in animation. Mano Animation has built a collaboration network that extends to Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, Peru, Argentina, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Nice to see a Pakistani animation project make headway into the international animation industry. Hopefully, this film will win some awards when it is finally released.

This movie is looking fantastic so far. This could easily be the best Pakistani movie ever created because it's so different from everything else that's come out of Pakistan's film industry so far. It's a breath of fresh air compared to the Bollywood replica movies Pakistani studios usually create.

Indie animation creators are the best.

Attack on Titan is being dragged but i see why, the conclusion of last version of s4 was amazing but now that I have read the ending in the Manga i find some aspects cliche.

This video got over 3 thousand upvotes on r/movies(https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/vi2dyc/the_glassworker_the_first_ever_2d_animated/) and it isn't even the trailer, it's just a showreel. Goes to show how easy it is to market animation to a global audience. There's no chance non-Pakistanis would be interested in a work in progress update if this was live action.

The real benefit of animation is that you can dub your movie in multiple languages and it will still feel natural. I heard Netflix is interested in this movie but I hope they release this exclusively in theaters at first and not send it movie straight to streaming. It would be interesting to see how much money this movie will be able to make in Pakistan so that we can get an idea of how big the market of animation is in Pakistan. The market of animation in Pakistan seems to be of decent size considering the fact a garbage movie like "the donkey king" made over $3 million domestically(2018 exchange rate).

Although I suspect this movie will probably make way more money in foreign countries compared to what it will make in Pakistan. It would be amazing if they can get a China release.

Almost forgot to show some of the Pakistani elements in this movie.

Japenese art style with Pakistani culture.

This very detailed presentation answers many of the questions people had about this movie. I was surprised by how the creators of this movie were able to add so many Pakistani elements to the story and overall film.

The dubbing is being done by the people that have dubbed Ghibli movies.

Caught a glimpse of Solo Leveling - really good graphics and visuals. Koreans are doing it better!

Back in those days, i used to watch Pokemon, Dragon Ball z, and still love those anime shows.

Started watching Attack on titan but then I got bored...

I've seen over 300+ anime. I am now bored and have since taken a break.

^^ Also before people question this, Keep in mind 70% of the series were manga that I read so quick finish.

But I got tired of anime after how bad the endings are. MHA ending is terrible, Solo Levelling Manhwa ending is terrible even though it's a goat Manhwa, Black clover is stuck in Limbo, so on and so forth

300! That's a lot.

What are your top 5 favorite anime shows?

Any recommendations on where I can read Manhwas?

I'm hooked on solo leveling and can't wait a week for episodes
Manhwa's are read on webtoon brother. It's mostly free. But you could always download Mangazone and read solo levelling from their.

Also i read solo levelling manhwa like 4 years ago. The anime came out extremly late, but I do credit the anime for not botching Jin woo's arcs and characterization whereas Nobeless, Tower of God and God of high-school Anime's were so bad that Crunchyroll should be ashamed of themselves.

Thanks bro, really helpful information!

The last episode was much awaited but imo didn't live up to the hype. Maybe I'm not used to the pace cause Japanese anime take a few episodes for important fights. This one was over in one episode. Felt rushed.

Manhwa's are very slow by default and as such no anime studio has managed to succesful adapt a Mangwa.

To their credit solo levelling is their best adaptation. If you watched GOH, TOG or Noblesse you'd probs be discouraged to ever watch or read a manhwa in your life.

Furthermore a manhwa chapter is very long, Around 80 pages per chapter whereas Manga chapters are only 20 pages with many pages just being single panels as well.

Hence an anime can adapt 3 to 4 manga chapters an episode without any issues while anime studios need to rush the pacing for a manhwa chapter.

Otherwise you'll get a One piece situation where the studio only adapts half a manga chapter per episode and the anime feels like a PowerPoint presentation rather then an actual anime.

If cricket was Dragon Ball Z @daytrader @sweep_shot @BouncerGuy

1) Australia (Goku)= Not the strongest protagonist and gets beaten multiple times yet always finds a way to eventually win via domination, upsets and has the highest win cabinet.

2) India (Jiren)= The powerhouse team that dominates everybody and smashes everyone black and blue until a random power up followed by bottling moments gets the better of them and they lose.

3) New Zealand (Vegeta) = The powerhouse friendly rival to Australia that dominates everybody but just can't defeat the main protagonist/ antagonist for the life of em and to this day, they possess zero main trophies or victories.

4) South Africa (Future Trunks) = The cool, calm and collected powerhouse team that everyone loves at first until eventually they get outshined, beaten and badly bruised once they prolong their stay. Only good for a short term moments.

5) England (Gohan) = The team with the most potential and the one who inveted cricket × bazzball trends but only show up once in every decade to achieve dominance. Otherwise they remain has beens for 90% of the story.

6) West Indies (Piccolo) = The team that was once a gigantic powerhouse and the main rivals the protagonist of the story(Australia) but as time went on, they fell off to accommodate the new rival NZ and India.

7) Sri Lanka (Tien) = Similar to West indies, was once a powerhouse rival that eliminated Australia but fell off quickly to accommodate the new rivals, India, NZ and Australia.

8) Afghanistan (Master Roshi) = The team rhat never backs down even when outgunned and finds a way to cause a few upsets here and their but otherwise is usually irrelevant.

9) Bangladesh (Krillin) = The team that has zero confidence in their own abilities and only occasionally showcase bravery and pull off some upsets against mid card teams but usually remain soft and weak.

10) Pakistan (Yamcha) = The team that always thinks they are the main protagonist of the story and are bigger then they truly are but always get blown apart by Every team and get put in their place at the pecking order.

11) Usa (Saibamen) = the team that blew up Pakistan and took them to the grave with em.

Haha funny. Agree with Aus and BD. India is definitely Cell in my opinion. Very strong but evil. England is Majin Buu because they poach players from SA, Zim, NZ. Pakistan is Gohan who doesn’t live up to his abilities. Afghanistan is like Goten or smth. Very strong and might even beat the big dogs but not quite there yet. Sri Lanka is Picolo bc very strong but kinda past it now. WI is Frieza because of their mighty history and still great potential.

Wi can't be frieza because Frieza is still relevant. Idk if you've been following Dragon ball recently but Frieza currently is the strongest character in the series excluding God characters like Beerus, whis, zeno etc. Basically besides the angels, the omni kings and The gods of destruction hos black form puts him > every character in the series.

Wi on the other hand is a has been.

Also WI has never been Evil. They've always been a nice friendly board. Even at peak during viv era, their agression was in the field, but they never bullied anyone.

Classic Australia is more evil then classic wi and current india is more evil then classic wi.
