I think it's quite telling Dean outperforms Mickey in PSL. It's the same environment, roughly same resources (in fact Mickey probably had a better team on paper for the earlier editions of PSL). Dean seemed very good at spotting talent (he was the one who backed Sharjeel and others).
Mickey on the other hand, Karachi is a mess full of choking no game plan. In the international team too, we consistently make mistakes with selection in Asia (e.g. not playing a spinner). And players hardly improve under Mickey, they get worse. He's given credit for guys like Fakhar when it's the opposite, he played Shehzad over him until Shehzad did so bad he had to replace him in the squad. And Fakhar is seemingly regressing over time too. Similarly he has chose not to play Haris, and has played Fahim at 7 (or he bats at 8 actually) pretty much wasting a spot when the only thing he's been decent at is T20s. In this SA ODI series why did he not choose to play Shan? Just so many poor selection errors.
We've been doing bad under Mickey bar CT win. What's more he's pretty poor in his comments in the media, deflecting the blame onto his players he doesn't rate (e.g. comments against Riaz). And I've never seen so much choking/throwing of the game in such a short space of time, even in the drawn series against England we should have won that, I don't know why the plan was to bat aggressively when we could have just batted out a draw in that test. And in general especially in Asia, Mickey seems tactically lost, which is the worst thing for a coach for an asian team. Priority one is always to at least do well in Asia, it makes up more than half our games, with a far higher chance of winning.
I can see why Mickey had issues with other teams. I was excited when he first got picked, but been pretty unimpressed as his tenure's gone on. People just constantly make excuses for the coach, it's the players, it's not international cricket (PSL) etc. If he didn't win that CT, honestly he might have been sacked by now, it's just that one achievement seemingly absolves him for everything. Mickey might do better elsewhere but seems far more suited for a SENA coach than an Asian coach.
