Are Pakistan cricketers not intelligent when it comes to public conduct?

The (Alleged) Shaheen Shah Afridi story

(See Time Pass and Sports thread on that : http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/s...xposed-himself-on-WhatsApp-Post-19&p=10528294)

seems to indicate that many Pakistan cricketers have very little idea of how and what to say/do in public - this includes simple use of social media as well as understanding what it means to be in the public eye and the issues involved in it.

Is PCB failing them?

We also have examples of Imam-ul-Haq's indiscretion as well - where whatsapp conversations have caused embarrassment.

Not sure how much PCB can do. Somethings are relatively basic.

Sorry didnt mean its PCB's fault but they need to understand that cricketers dont just bring shame on themselves, they also do same for PCB.

I noticed this generally with Shaheen Afridi. I think he has a mental age of 6.

Pcb need to hire a pr consulting team for the international team.

These guys need to learn the basics of presenting your self.

Umar Akmal and his dancing thing is another example - just dont know how to use their celebrity power!

Hope it's not true re Shaheen Afridi.

But some of these guys go crazy when it comes to women and it's not a new thing.

I recall during the spot-fixing trial, one of the trio's career was on the line but he was still trying to chat up a female reporter in the waiting/dining area.

Most of them seem to have social media managers now, but the ones who think they know what they’re doing are the ones to be wary of. You’re a brand and this is your livelihood, leave it to the PR professionals. Start your social media tirades, YouTube channels, tv chat shows or newspaper columns after you’ve retired.

his video is all over twitter.

when i was playing club cricket at gul, i remember a young teenage girl standing near the ground and waiting for a taxi. All the boys, who had played u19 and others grabbed their bikes and tried to offer her lift while smirking.

Most of these guys are uneducated and dont know how to behave around women

umar Akmal, shehzad, hassan ali, shadab , imam , shaheen
the lads who we ppers thought will be messiah of pak cricket turning out to be stain
i really feel for pak supporters in general & for ppers we give our time some of us just reply to the posts like me.. but there are so many who genuinely have soo much of passion that they look up and work on stats and figures and there thoughts and prediction like its there job to sort out all for passion for THIS team?
i feel as an Indian you ppers deserve a better team.

Here's another one.

Team hotel in England in 2010. One of the players trying to chat an English girl up in the hotel lobby when he could barely speak any English. The girl got up shouted "what a creep" and walked away.

I was sat nearby, the player asked me what did she say? I said that she said "you are very handsome".

Some of these lads are beyond education.

Why I say this is whilst some agents control their twitter, facebook etc, they can't babysit them 24 hours a day and watch over them.

Disgraceful. We should stop picking these clowns. Let's only pick hardworking players with common sense. Playerskke Misbah, Ajmal, Abbas etc.

Pakistan cricket needs a more diversified talent pool with perhaps more players from elitist backgrounds. it may sound a snobby thing to say, however we need players who are a bit more educated and are potentially leadership material, so that upcoming players can look up to someone who is credible rather than the likes of Sarfraz. This is one of the reasons why I wanted Shan Masood to be captaining the test side.

I make no secret of my dislike for Misbah but he deserves all the credit for helping Pakistan cricket rebuild that trust it has lost following the 2010 saga. He led the team with dignity and led by his example with conduct and work ethic. If it wasn't for his selfish demeanour and conservative approach as a leader of the side, I would have had a far more favourable view of him. As he's an MBA holder, there's no doubt he's an intelligent man but it's a real shame that this doesn't translate to a higher cricketing IQ.

Earlier this year, Pakistan's recently appointed T20I captain also epitomises the problems our players have with their conduct on social media. This shows this isn't just an issue with the odd bad apple, but is a deep rooted problem with a significant number of players coming into the system, who are vulnerable due to the lack of social skills.

For now PCB must invest in giving all newly turned professional cricketers media training that enhances their competencies in handling interviews and other public appearances, along with their use of social media.

Thanks. I've poured hours into looking at stats and ansylizing this team. But it just feels sad. I started watching back in 2009. 2009 to 2014 was good, but ever since 2014 these joker's have got into the team and spread a very immature aura around the team. I am hopeful Misbah can turn it around though.

I have to agree. The older generation Pakistan players were all from educated and more intelligent backgrounds, and my father always points this out.

My brother it is common knowledge how our people act towards females in pakistan, the filthy mind and eyes that women are viewed with while walking thru the bazzar's even thru thyre own village muhlla streets, we lived in a world of denial for decades ,even after having seen and heard it from our own friends colleagues, as our youngsters grow up they see it all around the from elders .so what else would we expect the youngsters to do... Now its getting out into the worlds eyes,

To be honest, I think what we are seeing is simply the result of growing up in an ultra Conservative society in which men don’t learn to talk with women as equals, society accepts arranged relationships with men with much younger women, and men struggle to find sexual outlets with women who are their social equals.

Everything that Saj has described falls into that sort of category.

If Shaheen Shah Afridi was a western cricketer he would just go on a dating app, keep his clothes on, arrange a liaison for an hour later and scratch his itch.

But that would require him to learn basic social skills so as not to scare off the woman at whatever public place they would meet.

It’s funny: educated Pakistani men like the current PM had no trouble looking smoother than western men in the 1970’s. But the more conservative that Pakistani society becomes, the more clumsy and ridiculous its men look when they try to behave in a western way.

The PCB needs to give them intensive social skills training before the day arrives when we wake up to read a newspaper article about a serious assault on tour.

Why do fans keep blaming the background of these players? SS Afridi is only 19, he grew up in digital age and most probably know the consequence of posting things on the internet. May be he is enjoying his new found independence, who knows. But PCB should do a better job of educating their players, one teammate's action also affects everyone in the team.

Saj bhai, trolling hard...

Not sure how much PCB can do. Somethings are relatively basic.

PCB needs to make sure that they are well trained by HR or PR personnel, niyat saaf ho na ho when you are a national level athlete and celeb zuban toh kam se kam saaf hona chahiye.

Off topic, but doesn't Babar and other Akmals come from elite cricketing family? Why do they still talk and dress like paindus? Among the current Pak players Riaz, Amir and Imad appear polished and sophisticated.

Sorry didnt mean its PCB's fault but they need to understand that cricketers dont just bring shame on themselves, they also do same for PCB.

Most of it's actually PCB's fault, when you are making a star out of a teenager you better make sure he behaves like one off the field.

Just because he can't speak english doesn't mean he's a paindu. Come on. You're better than that

English has got nothing to do with this, Miandad also didn't speak much English yet one of the most resourceful and street-smart players the game has ever scene, you know exactly what I am talking about, I am just surprised despite coming from rich families they still appear fresh from pind.

I've never really heard from anyone that the Akmal family were rich before they became famous.
Have any source for this claim?

i guess being married is the best solution.
imad recently tho.

PCB can't monitor their phones 24 hours a day.

I do not have any source or anything, people here always talk about Akmals as some kind of major cricketing clan so I assumed they must be rich even before they became famous, I could be wrong though.

Look man I do not mean any disrespect or anything, heck we probably have more paindus but BCCI made sure that the painduness is kept in check during public appearances while it is seems pretty visible for Pak players, it was exactly the opposite a couple decades back when we had our fair share of meek and shy paindus, that's all I am saying.

This is all fake news. Hareem Shah is tik tok star. She confirmed that she has only tik tok and instagram. Heres a link to it

But can surely provide training and conduct classes about how to manage their new found fame off the field, right?

They can train them, guide them, advise them until they are blue in the face, but what they do in their free time, PCB cannot control.

Young guys (Shaheen, Imam etc.) need to be careful. These folks generally can get tempted and do stupid things.

Spot on Junaids

I grew up in west and see the differences.
Its a cultural issue.

I don't think so. Don't confuse this with education, culture etc. In west, there are more cases like this. Even some famous, and highly educated hollywood stars have done worse than this.

Our players are definitely paindus and have no idea how to behave in public. Education has a lot to do with this, and the culture as well, but don't confuse all this with what Shaheen did. Men are known to think from their middle part and completely lose their brain when it comes to women.

I mean sports stars, especially young ones, have done even worse all across the globe, even from so called "educated" backgrounds. What does being Pakistani have anything to do with it?

Agreed 100%

The younger generation of cricketers is perhaps the stupidest of all time.Absolutely no inkling what so ever on how to conduct themselves on and off the field. Each day and each scandal confirms this.

Incredibly embarrasing and plain dissapointing to the say the least.

Lavish hotels, fame, fortune, adulation from female fans, this is all new to many and they just can't cope with it.

But this was proven to be fake. The model herself released a video in which she said she doesn't have twitter and the incident never happenned.

The only thing we need is education.
If we improve our school cricket , and abolish club cricket. We can get an educated Cricketer, most of our cricketers haven't seen school gate in their life.

They drop out when they are 10-11

It’s very similar to the British young footballers culture. Those who are destined to become pro are pretty much out of school or are wasting time at school by the age of 12. Why do you think these pundits and players on TV cannot speak a sentence of grammatically correct English?

Look at the number of incidents over the years.

Also some thankfully don't make the news.

The post made by the tiktok model's twitter. She released a video in which she said that she doesn't even have a twitter account and that this incident didn't happen with her. She said the account posting this is a fake.

She has said that the account is fake but the video - can that be proven to be fake?

Is That Why such pics are so common in the West?

it's pretty simple.

Inexperience dealing with the opposite sex at an attraction level.

You grow up in an environment where men and women are generally seperate.

Then you become an athlete and girls are plentiful.

You have no idea how to react to this predicament other than follow their hormones.

Pak players who are mostly poorly educated do lack intelligence. No doubt about it at all.

Lol what its definitly a cultural issue. When u are forbidden from talking to women because od CULTURE this happens.

These guys just dont know how behave infront of women. If they grew up like its all normal here iin the west, it wouldnt be such a big problem. Over there sex is taboo cultural issue again.

Over here its normal.

Whether it's old or new, it raises concerns about the intelligence and levels of common sense of this young man.

It's obvious that players like Shaheen and Babar are going to be international cricketers for the long term. PCB should ensure these players are media trained, aware how to behave socially, and have English lessons. It's difficult for us to this with every player , that is something the education system needs to solve. But our elite players need to be polished as they will have lots of exposure. We don't want them embarrassing themselves.

what nonsense. you clearly have trouble understanding this. Most of you guys do. This has more to do with upbringing than education and culture. When I have time, I will come back and explain this further.
