Are you afraid of Death

Suppose the Angel of death approached you and told you that he has come to take your soul away. In short you are going to die

What will be your immediate reaction?

a) Will you be afraid of death because maybe you hurt others or failed in your religious obligations and are afraid of being punished for your sins?

b) You are not afraid to die because you did good for others and your fulfilled all your religious obligations and you are awaiting for your journey to heaven

c) You simply don't care and you have this attitude 'what will happen will happen'
 
Off course I would be afraid to stand before Allah swt , with the kind of deeds I have done. But somewhere down the line I would have faith in mercy of Allah swt . There is always a chance he will over look deeds if you had strong Iman and did not harm others .
 
I'm not afraid of death, but I am afraid of pain and disease.
 
Angel of Death? Unless you suffer a slow lingering death (say due to illness), death is likely to be fairly quick, maybe even instant (say being shot from behind, being blown up or having a fatal accident causing instant death), and there will be no time "to be afraid".

How many of you have had surgery or similar under general anaesthetic?

Until you woke up again, do you remember the instant you went under, or the time you were under?

If the Anaesthetist was doing his job correctly, then the answer should be "no, nothing".

What if something went wrong and you never woke up?

That's akin to death. ie Nothing!

I know you don't believe in afterlife, judgement day etc

But

You're not afraid of losing/missing your loved ones? Not afraid of having no more life, joy, fun, love etc?

I don't think the question was are you afraid of death itself but dying.
 
Third option. Whenever I think about death I only worry about what my family and friends will have to suffer through because of me. I don't care otherwise, nothing scares me anymore. I'm beyond that point.

Not afraid of dying. Just afraid of the heartache I will cause to my wife, kids and other family members. That, along with the lack of husband and father to look after them, provide for them and keep them safe.

(That's why I can't comprehend the mentality of suicide bombers, who are married with kids, going and blowing themselves up on behalf of strangers in a country, like Syria, that they have nothing to do with - I'm thinking of the British Pakistani married father with kids who blew himself up during 7/7 London in 2005)

What if you were single and young with no family, no responsibility to anyone. Are you saying you would have no fear of the unkown or what could happen after you die? Or what I asked Robert, the end of your worldly life and all the joys that come with it.

But I'm not single with no family.

Once one has children, it's impossible to envisage what if one didn't have any children.
 
Everyone should get life insurance and make sure it covers accidental death. At least when you die, you leave a windfall for the beneficiaries.
 
I read "mout ka manzar" when I was child.
So I was scared to death of dying.

But now, as era of ignorance is over for me so I am in peace with the concept of dying.
 
I don't fear death as much as the process of dying. I dread getting cancer, and the thought of dying in a plane crash or getting eaten by a shark is terrifying. The latter won't happen though, since I can't swim and hate going to beaches.

Whenever I am in a flight which is experiencing high turbulence, I wonder if there will be a thread in Time Pass where posters would be offering condolence for my death.

Be careful, know some lads from brum who went diving on holiday and drowned a while back ; always weigh up the costs and benefits despite all the safety precautions

Please tell your wife to update us otherwise we will assume that you left PP for something better.
In that case, I plan to go through all your posts and would try my best to give some deeper (they are already deep) meaning to each and every post.
 
Death is the shadow of life, and Allah swt gave us a shadow to remind us that even under the brightest life death is a permanent and even promiscuous companion of life : we shouldn't fear death but fear a life which ultimately was not worth dying for.

Millions of cells in the human body die and are birthed everyday ; and millions of humans have probably passed away without finding the only purpose in life - surrounded by physical and psychic idols -, which is to serve God and to return to the pure Adamic state.
 
Not really. Having seen many deaths in my family including my parents at a young age it has greatly erased the fear of it from my heart. Allah is merciful if we make an effort. My trust in Allah is much greater then fear of death.

Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
With a paltry annual premium of just 12 rupees , you get 2 lakh for accidental death or full disability and 1 lakh for partial permanent disability.

Well, I will be annihilated, so I won't miss them. There will be nothing left of me to do any missing.

I wil just try to enjoy them while I am alive.

The thought of cancer scares me. Alzheimer's even more. Not being able to take care of myself, being a burden to family instead of a strength.

What if there is more pain and disease after death :yk2? After death is an uncharted area, you never know what to expect, one should always be afraid of the unknown :bean

Can happen, if your plane crashes into the sea and you survive the crash, only to be eaten by a shark :yk

When i was returning from germany alone, second flight from Abudhabi to Calicut in Ethihad....oh my god it was really scary......i closed my eyes holding tight on the armrest praying......i wanted to see my family at that time.:(
 
I'm selfish I suppose and I'm more worried by what happens after death than the effect on loved ones..guess getting out of my comfort zone is not meant for me :P
 
This is perhaps strange but I don't fear death. Rather, I have a fascination with it. Not an obsession and I certainly don't romanticize death or suicide nor do I necessarily want to die. But the suspense of what happens after you die is very captivating.

Perhaps its like the forbidden truth scenario. Suspense of the unknown..

I'm not going to disturb to course of life and I'll let nature do its part but I think of death as a personal mystery, waiting to be solved.

Well, it wouldn't be death then. The time before my birth is uncharted by me too, and that didn't hurt.

Your last sentence is interesting. Are you suggesting you may consider euthanasia if in a particular situation?

Option D -> I am not afraid of death, but I would love to know in advance (at least a month ago) so that I can my funeral and live my life to the fullest.

Will not work for a month, will go on a final short vacation with my family and friends, will do everything I always wanted to do like bungy jumping, sky diving etc.

This. Waiting around knowing you are going to die would be the worst.

Being dead on the other hand is I imagine is much the same as what things where like before I was born.

How do you know though? Maybe it hurt a lot and that's why you decided to take birth to forget about all the suffering, like I said, it's foolish to not be afraid of the unknown

Now this is an interesting concept and one that also applies to me.

I would also say that I am single and childless and that my main focus and responsibility in life is myself.

But I do have a family - I have a mother and a father.

It's a reality that people don't want to acknowledge but in my opinion, a father and a mother love their children more than their children will ever love them back. It is a selfless love rather than a selfish love.

This is natural and filling that void is a natural and necessary part of growing up. One day people find that they are no longer the main focus of their world and that their children, grand children etc are and it is people like that who can find peace with the natural process of being born, growing up, having the next generation and then dying.

It is probably this absence which explains why young men are the easiest to convince to hate or to fight and die for some cause or ideal.

Definitely.

Worry about my loved ones. The thought of not being to see my kids is unthinkable for me.

I am afraid if the death process is long and I suffer a lot.
I am afraid that will be I recognized as muslim by Allah on death.
I am afraid that what will happen to me in afterlife.

Nobody should know that they are going to die until they actually die.

Knowing death in advance would be incredibly difficult to take.

I'm always striving to do more. If I was to die today I think I'd regret not having done more. But when I thought about it I realised that would be the case no matter when I die.

Also regrets about relationships with those who have already passed away and things I should have dove differently.

So two fold.
 
Very afraid of death. We get one life...and when it's lost, it's all over. I know people believe in all kinds of religions, reincarnations, etc...which may help ease the fear of death and to them there's more that follows.

But for me, this life is all I have and I'd love to cling on to it as long as possible.

I see, but I guess that is the tragedy of living, or living long enough. Pondering over things we could've done, should've done or spent our time more wisely. I hope when death comes for all of us, we can be at ease and at peace.

That's why we should make the most of every moment and every interaction.

Try to make the place a little better off than when we found it.
