Arsenal FC | 2025/26 Season

Respect Slot for what he's done for Liverpool. But he had a bad card to play this season. Not least the passing of Jota.
 
Even in the last few matches of the previous seasons , I've seen tendencies where slots tactics were being ripped open.

Not the guy for Liverpool.

Good on him getting us the PL though

You guys can look at the whole of Europe and come up with just two names as possible elite managers that Utd/Liverpool/Arsenal/every damn club in Europe needs. Flick and Enrique. That seems to be the magic pill that every club needs. That’s a simplistic solution at best.

Any team/any year does extremely well to reach the UCL final. We will see what the outcome is when we get there but have to enjoy every step of the journey. No club is promised success.

I think it's possible to hold two positions, the first being that Arteta has done a good job at Arsenal, taking them from where they were to consistently challenging for the title and the second being that ultimately he's come up short, finishing 2nd for 4 consecutive seasons is in that sense a failure

It's moreso a failure when you consider the context of those 2nd place finishes, if I'm not mistaken 3 out of 4 of those seasons Arsenal has been in the lead for the majority of the season but each time they came up short at the business end of the season. He just doesn't have the mentality to get Arsenal over the line in a title challenge

I obviously have no skin in this game but how many 2nd place finishes do tolerate before you finally say enough is enough?

Klopp won 1 PL titles in 9 years, he also bottled 2 titles in that time. He should have left with minimum 3 PLs.

My criteria, is same for everyone.

I certainly won't be jumping on any Arteta-dry humping bandwagon.

The fact you think 6 years with zero trophies is success shows how low your standards are.

Klopp's quadruple team needs to be given more respect.

Won 2/4 domestic cups , chased city to the very end and reached the finals of the UCL.

And it doesn't even cater on how Liverpool lost the league due to largely dodgy referee decisions.

15M a year to "compete" but not to win anything.

In any other industry if you were 2nd highest, or one of highest paid employees in that industry. You kept failing, you would get sacked.

Sadly certain Arteta fan boys haven't seen this club lift proper trophies, so finish 2nd to pep is seen as a medal of honor to these numpties
 
I'll be the first guy to say I've watched every match of Arsenal's invincible team.

Klopp won everything whilst at Liverpool, but the return of 1 title in 9 years, when he should have won 3. Is a poor return in terms of league titles.

Any team thats top at end of season deserves to win league

Klopp should have won 3 PLs

Wenger should have won 6, including 5 in his 1st 7 seasons. Throwing away a double in 98/99 and also 8 point lead in 02/03 was criminal. Arsenal were head n shoulder better than anyone in England between 01/02 and 03/04. Not to win 3 in a row, was poor by Wenger. Wenger return of 3 overall, was half of what he should have ended up with.

I don't just scrutinize othe clubs managers, I do same with ones At Arsenal

If you have a chance in a title race, albeit 1 chance usually and you didn't take it then thats failure.

GA I agree with this 2 positions stance. The first step is to acknowledge that Arteta has done an amazing job at this club. You know and any serious fan of EPL would know how difficult it is to maintain this sort of league position.

The second question, is that enough by itself is up for discussion. If Arsenal finish second this time around then it would be really difficult to counter the argument that Arteta doesn’t have it in him to get them over the line. I am still very optimistic about an EPL win for this season which is why I am not thinking seriously about the alternative.

Liverpool board got complacent at one point. Where Liverpool actually had a better team and squad then city. Ultimately to stay at top, you have to keep evolving. Liverpool didn't.

This is also why this current Arsenal team isn't good enough to dominate, as football being played isn't sustainable, and the set up isn't there to evolve.

Liverpool lost the league that season because Liverpool drew a high number of big away games. Drawing games away to Chelsea, everton, united, Arsenal cost you. As well as a lack of depth in attacking areas from the bench

At the point Liverpool had the better squad and team, they didn't need to spend stupid amounts of money. They just needed to make smart signings, your owners decided not to.

Also in klopps last season, Liverpool ran out of ideas and legs. Liverpool had a go a good lead in January and then threw it away on same weekend Arsenal did. When they lost to palace and villa at home

Obviously from an outsiders perspective we all know it's done, City are winning it and that loss to Bournemouth was the real damaging moment

David Dein recently said this year, that he asked the other board members to help him find investors back in 2005. A time when Chelsea started to throw money around. Arsenal board, didn't want foreign investors, we also moved to a 400M stadium which club didn't have money to pay for it. So the Arsenal board (mainly old timers, set in there ways - are to blame for what happened).

Wenger essentially got so use to just penny pinching, he lost all his ability to identify elite talent, Instead it was about producing players with a sell on value. Even then we were rubbish at selling players

When it's confirmed they haven't won the league and assuming the CL isn't won then I think you'll find a lot of the match going fans will be calling for him to go

I don’t disagree. In fact, it is what I expect because Arsenal fans are the most toxic and disgraceful fans in the game.

They essentially abused Wenger by the end of his tenure. No matter how bad things got under him in the end, he didn’t deserve such treatment for what he did for the club.

Arteta has put Arsenal on the map again. He revived a rotten club and he deserves a lot of respect from the fans. The difference between doing a good job and doing a bad just is not just winning or not winning the PL or UCL.

Having said that, I don’t think there is any real pressure on Arteta to keep the job unless things go really south. The owners have real faith in him and the fans who would want him sacked in the summer are the same fans who wanted him sacked in 2020 as well but the owners paid no heed to them.

Regardless of what happens between now and May, I’m sure talks of his contract extension will be underway.

I think this is a decent ranking for analyzing a season in isolation.

But over a 6-year period, multiple second-place finishes are a cause for alarm.
