Arsenal have signed Olivier Giroud for £12m, plus add-ons for any trophies he wins at the club, bringing the deal to around £12m

Cunning from Arsenal to structure the add ons on how many trophies won

Not true.

No clauses like that have been added - the only difference in his new contract is that it's been trebled, compared to his original pay at his former club.

A good signing for Arsenal. We have now signed two players who performed consistently well last season for their former clubs who both were considered as key players for their clubs, signed for a very good fee too. Good early business done by Arsenal.

:))

great signing

bring in yann mvilla and winners of the prem league

Podolski, Giroud and RVP up front for Arsenal? Unlikely, reckon RVP is off

Also they are all left footers so not sure they would work as a front 3

Still a very good signing for Arsenal, they need to make sure they get M'Vila as well

Excellent signing to go alongside Podolski...good work by Wenger.

Gota good feeling about next season (as i do most seasons tbh, but hey, at least we're signing this time around lol)

Would be an excellent signing if it is completed.

Arsenal are likely to offload bendtner, chamakh, vela and park.

So that would if giroud signs and RVP stays that leaves club with 3 front line strikers, most Top PL clubs rotate the strikers in the season. Also it will take Giroud and podolski time to adapt to PL and in longterm these two will be seen as future main strikers at the club.

I hope you are right, would like RVP to stay at Arsenal

Well wenger signing two strikers should be wenger trying to prove to RVP that arsenal are trying to show ambition and compete.

RVP should realize the Arsenal team is built round him and its abit like torres at liverpool your the star man. Going elsewhere he will just be another star amongst others. Look at how talented the dutch team is and they flopped big time, so things arent always rosy elsewhere.

hopefully he will make the right choice.

RVP may leave or may not, who knows. However I doubt Giroud has been signed as a RVP replacement. If we're going to sign a replacement for RVP then he's likely to be far more technical then Giroud, who to me... Seems to play the target man role.

Out = bendtner, chamakh, vela and park
Remaining strikers = RVP, Podolski and Giroud

Afobe will be promoted from the reserves into 1st team, Arsenal are also trying to get work permits for joel campbell and wellington so i can see some of the younger strikers seeing some CL Cup and FA cup action in up and coming season.

Impressive work, for a change, by Arsenal in the transfer market thus far. Another couple of big signings and they'll be looking strong next season.

If Arsenal could add som more depth in the defence, they look quite good actually if they keep RVP. Think Podolski will play a lot on the left.

They have a decent GK, defence is good when injury-free. Midfield would be boosted if they sign M'Vila, and now they finally have got back up-players for RVP.

They might still end up choking in February though

A player like Santi Cazorla would have been a superb addition to Arsenal.

But unlikely that he would leave Big spenders Malaga.

If the players remain injury free then Arsenal would be right up there!

Wenger himself has now come out and said the deal is 90 per cent done! interesting as he very rarely comments on transfers.

Damien Martinez will be promoted to challenge Wojciech for the #1 spot. A talented young 'keeper who has been pushed up the ranks after impressive performances in the reserve side.

We need to snap up Giroud, extend the contract of RVP. Once that is done, then we need to sell players that need to be sold - after that Wenger should do his business, although there's a good chance of us signing M'vila too.

We still have issues in DM so Mvilla or someone similar is a must. Also we need a defender who can play in different postions.

The fact sagna will be missing for 1st 6-8 PL is a massive blow.

Hopefully he will settle in well and have a 1st good season at the club.

Im glad we signed him and not at a hefty price, but i just hope that he doesnt let us down like Chamakh did.

Different player, Chamakh was never a prolific scorer in france, Also look at girouds build and ability he shouldnt struggle with physical side of things in PL, looks like a genuine goal poacher.

Hes always scored 14 goals for his new club in the 1st season hes played for them, that many goals for arsenal next season and it would be a welcome start!

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure he will be ready for the start of the season.

PS - can one of the mods move this thread to the Arsenal thread please.

AJ is right, mid-september is being mentioned as to when he will return

Its no coincedence that the games we played last season with either no recognized full backs or one of them missing we didnt win.

With 1st six fixtures arsenal have they cant afford any weaknesses in defence which will be exposed.

So 2.5 years on Giroud has proven to be a decent signing for Arsenal- he'll never be in the same category as an Aguerro or a Costa but he has really improved over the past couple of seasons and has a habit of scoring important goals.

50 goals and 27 assists in 117 matches is not bad. His form this season has been very good and looked a completely new player. 11 goals so far this season when he missed almost half of the season.

Going through a nice little purple patch but I'm not convinced and probably never will.

Not good enough for a team that's aspiring to win the PL.

The top 2 teams in the country at the moment boast Aguero and Costa.

Perfect plan B striker. Need Dbyala in the summer asap.

Have to say it Giroud haas improved alot as a striker and even has been scoring goals against the bigger teams, but we still need a world class striker in the summer.

The main priority signing has to be a top class defensive midfielder.

Giroud back to being a donkey tonight with number of sitters and chances has missed tonight.

Giroud doing well for Chelsea in the twilight of his career - he’s also not far behind Henry as France’s all time top goal scorer.
