As a group, are desi people more 'jugaaru' than people from any other region in the world?

What are your thoughts?

in my experience, both Pakistanis and indians are always looking for loopholes, shortcuts whether it be sport, work or academics but may just be my circle. Sometimes its great but sometimes it gets annoying and gets us bad rep.

People from all walk of life are looking for loopholes and short cut.

Desi only notice it when a desi does it but when other race, particularly White, desi see them as genius.

Nothing wrong in gaining advantage with short cut or loop holes.

Yes we are by nature looking for jugaar and hence lack quality in many aspects of our lives. White people in general want to do a proper job (in whatever they are doing), which is why they are far ahead of us in most things.

Now in some cultures like Germany for example, there is a lot of procedure and red tape which is very difficult to understand for a non-german but there is also some value to it.

Whilst every community will have their jugaarus, theres only one community in the uk, that i know of, who are proud to be jugaarus and thats the mirpuri community.
Many of my mirpuri school friends have made fun of me for going to university and working so hard, when they have done jack and still have a bigger house than me and a nicer car than me!

I have the last laugh though, because nearly all of them have ended up in prison!

I agree with OP that Desi people are indeed like that but I don't believe its a bad quality.

If you put in the same stress, survival environment, Desi people are more capable in surviving than western people. Its because we think outside the box and don't let the system to dictate how one should go about it.

If you are in a system, you get institutionalized. This yields damaging affect on most occasions.

I don't think jugaar is a shortcut or anything. I think its innovation

Nope, it's universal in fact it's more common in the current generation (younger millenials/Gen Z) to find the easy way out or the fastest solution to a problem.

Its one thing to be innovative to work things out within a system

Its another thing to act that people who follow laws and rules are "dumb", which is what a lot of desis back home act when western born desis follow rules.

E.g. wearing seatbelts, not throwing trash on the roads etc.

The examples that you wrote isn't the sign of a jugaaru.

Whether we think of 'jugaad' as ingenuity or (not necessarily legal) shortcuts, people from developed countries are less likely to be 'jugaadu' simply because they don't have to be. Why go for workarounds if the going through the proper channel is just as efficient?

Since the subcontinent is still a developing region, it is almost impossible to to get what you want without playing the system in some way. We tend to take too much credit for this forced ingenuity as if it is something desirable when it is something you are forced to do either due to lack of resources or inefficient systems.

This. Few centuries ago, West was probably more jugaaru than us.

I do not think we are not even close to other communities. Living abroad i have noticed that other communities are worse than use. We are just like to talk about our own people.

This basically. Desis just read the papers and watch news programmes about their failings and start believing it. You will get white girls getting pregnant to claim housing benefits, or people claiming back pains or whiplash injuries to collet insurance money.

The good thing about non-desi countries is that there is less tolerance for corruption so laws are enforced more rigidly. You might ask a question why that is.

Good post. In addition to that i know one lady close to 65 years old or more. She just fell purposely on the snow and laid there for hours just to sue the building management so she can collect money...
