Chennai Super Kings' Gurunath Meiyappan, the son-in-law of BCCI president-in-exile N. Srinivasan, has been charged for betting and cheating during the IPL by the Mumbai police. Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf has also been named as a wanted accused in the chargesheet along with actor Vindoo Dara Singh and 15 bookies from Pakistan. The hearing has been scheduled for November 21.

In the 11,500-page chargesheet filed today, Meiyappan has been accused of betting, cheating, forgery and leaking information. A total of 22 people have been named as accused and eight of them have been declared wanted accused. The police have 196 witnesses as part of their evidence and six forensic lab reports that contain telephone conversations between the likes of Meiyappan, Vindoo and several others.

According to sources, Gurunath may be charged for fixing as well based on the following points in the chargesheet:

# On 12th May in a match between CSK and RR, Gurunath bet 'against' his own team. In this match CSK lost. Gurunath was aware that his team would lose. (Whether Gurunath has asked his team to lose on purpose or he knew of the adverse conditions under which his team was playing and hence guessed that his team would lose is a matter that will be raised).

# On 19th May in a conversation between Gurunath and Vindoo at 19:26 hrs, Gurunath told Vindoo - ' we are going to win hundred percent'. CSK won that match.

# On 12th May in a conversation between Guru and Vindoo, Guru tells Vindoo that his team will make runs anywhere between 130 and 140. That days CSK made exactly 141 runs. The match was between CSK and RR.

# On 13th May at 14.45 hrs Vindoo called Guru asking what was he doing ? Guru replied that he was sitting in his boat and watching the match. Vindoo says - why are you sitting in your boat, go sit with your team and pass on information to me, so that I can place bets.

Police had earlier said that they have incriminating proof against Meiyappan, including transcripts of (phone) call records, CCTV footage and documents used to obtain SIM cards for bookmakers.

BCCI chief N Srinivasan distanced himself from his son-in-law by stating that he had nothing to do with the chargesheet and that the law would take its own course.

"This is a matter for Mr Gurunath Meiyappan to deal with, the law will take it own course. He has been suspended so he has got nothing to do with the game," Srinivasan was quoted as saying.

"It is upto him to defend his position, it has got nothing to do with me and it is not proper for me to make any comment," he added.

Meanwhile actor Vindoo Dara Singh pleaded his innocence by saying, "Let us read the chargesheet first, we have not done anything wrong."

The IPL spot-fixing controversy arose in May with the arrest of Rajasthan Royals players Shantakumaran Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan by the Delhi Police for conceding more than a specified number of runs per over in return for money from illegal bookmakers. Sreesanth and Chavan are now facing life bans from BCCI.

The BCCI also handed out a five-year ban to Royals' Amit Singh, while another Rajasthan cricketer Siddharth Trivedi got a one-year suspension. There was no decision on Chandila, who recently got out on bail. His role is still being probed, and a decision will be taken soon.

In the interests of Pakistan-India relations Pakistan should deport Rauf to india to face his crimes in court.

Any chance of Sreesanth, Chandila getting imprisoned? That would be great, they deserve nothing less. Quite disappointed in Asad Rauf to be associated with this mess.

Chargesheeted umpire Asad Rauf claims innocence in IPL spot-fixing scandal

Rauf also said he would explain his stand to ICC's Anti-corruption unit.

Karachi: Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf was on Saturday chargesheeted by police in the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing case but the Pakistani official claimed innocence and said he has no link with bookies.

"Discussion and information are two separate things. We can discuss things with people but sharing information is different. I will get in touch with my legal adviser and then I can tell you," Rauf said.

Asked if he knew Bindu Dara Singh, who was also named in the chargesheet, Rauf said: "I have thousands of friends but that doesn't mean that if my friends do something, then I have anything to do with that.

"Let them prove something. I mean, if it was the case that I have taken a favour or a gift or money was given to me... you got to prove allegations," said Rauf, who was named a 'wanted accused' along with 15 bookies from Pakistan.

Rauf said he would explain his stand to ICC's Anti-corruption unit.

"I have been an employee of ICC. ICC has their own Anti-corruption unit. Like police they also investigate. When they call me, I will answer them through my legal adviser. I have done five IPLs and my decisions have been 100 per cent correct. I will answer to ICC regarding these allegations," Rauf said.

Police claim Rauf received gifts, bet on games

The Mumbai police have outlined how Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf, who was listed as a "wanted accused" in the chargesheet on the IPL betting scandal, was allegedly given gifts by bookies, passed on match-related information to them, and placed bets on matches himself while officiating in the tournament.

The police made their case on the evidence of transcripts of recorded phone conversations that Rauf allegedly had with other people accused in the chargesheet, and a large portion of it concerns the period before and after the Delhi police arrested three Rajasthan Royals players following their match against Mumbai Indians, which Rauf umpired, at the Wankhede on May 15.

The chargesheet also brought out an alleged link between actor-punter Vindoo Dara Singh, one of the accused, and Rauf through recorded phone conversations. Vindoo was also alleged to have close links with former Chennai Super Kings official Gurunath Meiyappan, who was charged by Mumbai police on Saturday with cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy - including passing on information that compromised the team.

"A telephonic conversation between Randhawa [Vindoo Dara Singh] and Rauf at 08:55.14 on May 14 is available. It has a mention of a gold chain gifted to Rauf by wanted accused Sanjay Chhabra alias Sanjay Jaipur and Sandeep Chhabra alias Pawan Jaipur," the chargesheet said. "Two witnesses have provided additional details in this regard.

"At 13:29.44 on May 15, Rauf is heard telling Randhawa in a conversation, "Aaj zindagi ki haar-jeet kar lena [Tonight you can make or break your life]". Immediately after the call, Randhawa called Sandeep Chhabra alias Pawan Jaipur and is heard telling him Rauf has asked him to place huge bets on the said match and all the gifts they have awarded to Rauf will pay off in tonight's game. This is available in the conversation that took place at 15.41.31 on May 15. Rauf was appointed as umpire for the match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals on the said day and he is heard telling others to place bets on the match.

"At 17:30 on May 15, a conversation is available about Sanjay Chhabra alias Sanjay Jaipur calling Asad Rauf and saying, "sham ko wohi cheez karenge jo aapne batayee [In the evening, we will do exactly as you have told us].

"Following the player arrests in Delhi, wanted accused Sanjay Chhabra alias Sanjay Jaipur called Rauf from the number of witness Mahesh Mishra at 19:56.52 on May 16 and asked him to destroy the sim card that was given to him. Later, even the conversation of Randhawa instructing the same to Rauf is also available. The conversation about wanted accused Asad Rauf placing bets on cricket matches at 22:00.03 is available with Randhawa. The said conversation also mentions the detailed amount and the teams that Rauf has placed bets on."

The chargesheet also contains details of alleged gifts Rauf may have received from bookies and evidence indicating he met with others accused in the case. "As per information provided by accused Prem Taneja, two bags that were to be delivered to Asad Rauf were taken into custody from Air India cargo department at the Mumbai airport. The bags included gifted apparels, shoes and other accessories, shopping bills at Diesel showroom, Asad Rauf's pass and bills in the name of Asad Rauf Malik.

"The footage of Asad Rauf shopping with Prem Taneja at a Diesel showroom has been acquired on May 26. Witnesses Samira Suresh Avdhun, Mushir Rashid Khan have admitted in their statement that for the shopping on April 25 and 26 that Rauf did, Taneja paid the bill while the May 14 bill was paid by Rauf."

The Mumbai police had not been able to question Rauf in relation to the case because he had left India during IPL 2013. Rauf had returned to Pakistan where he held a press conference and stressed that he had not engaged in any corrupt activities, a stance he reiterated on Saturday after the chargesheet was filed.

When news had emerged that Rauf was wanted for questioning by police, the ICC issued a release saying that the umpire had been stood down from his duties in the Champions Trophy in England. Rauf was later dropped from the Elite Panel of Umpires

A lot of this is hearsay. Lets wait until he is charged and we see the evidence in court. If he is guilty then he deserves jail and a lifetime ban.

Is this the end of Rauf as a Umpire & will PCB take action against him ?

Sanjay Chhabra alias Sanjay Jaipur is a bookmaker from Jaipur & as per TV reports , he along with his brother Pawan is worth over 10 Billion [ 1000 crores] rupees .

I don't know why people have declared Sreesanth guilty already. Not that I am his fan, but just saying.

Where's the evidence? So far, all I have heard Delhi Police say is they have evidence against him, while Sreesanth says there cannot be any.

Why is the police not coming out with the evidence?

After all this what will the PCB do ?

Let me tell you this well in advance,
They will do absolutely nothing as they have in all the fixing cases in the past,

That is a pity .

I hold our police in high regard, Sreesanth is a known tool on the other hand.

So if Gurunath knew his team was going to lose when are they going to charge the CSK players?

Or are those players too big for the police to put a hand on them? :)..
...yeap that's what I presumed..

Surely this places a huge cloud over the CSK players as well?

If they're not in on this, then there is no proof against the son in law.

If he is found guilty, then the CSK team are also guilty.

Guru has been charged with betting which is illegal here . Secondly , reports say he had lost over a crore of rupees when he was caught & since CSK was winning most of the games, apparently the idiot bet against his team .
He was privy to info like team changes & what the pitch would be like which can be very useful to a punter or a bookie .

I hope PCB bans Rauf for life .

Now pakistani players have almost a 0% chance of ever playing in IPL if these things keep happening.

How can the Son-in-law fix matches and knows the exact range of scores without the involvement of CSK players?

If Guru is really involved in all this fixing mess, then CSK players are also involved. Without the playes involvement, there can never be any fixing.

Not for one second do I believe this only involves the players caught, there will be many others involved too.

PCB should act sensibly here no point in rushing things like they did with :danish who i believe is innocent but :rauf did a good thing by retiring from umpiring

The 2 bookie brothers from Jaipur mentioned in the report are also said to own 2 Jewellery showrooms & have several bunglows & huge other real estate .

@ kiang : did Rauf retire as soon as he reached PK from ipl ?

The way rauf bolted on an ASAP basis, he did seemed guilty.

In the interests of Pakistan-India relations Pakistan should deport Rauf to india to face his crimes in court.

That should have been the case really, but wont happen.

Kinda expected as well. But after the life ban sentences by BCCI, there should be some pressure on PCB to do something significant as well.

Like what?

Rauf was employed by the ICC and IPL at the time of the offences. He has retired and is not a PCB employee. PCB can't touch him even if they wanted to.

Pakistan has no extradition treaty with India and therefore Rauf cannot be forcibly sent to India to face charges.

The worst that the Pakistani authorities could do would be to charge Rauf with not paying customs taxes on gifts given to him in India. But even then it will need to be proven that he did indeed bring such gifts back to Pakistan.

All in all, Rauf knows that the Indian's cannot touch him, that is unless he visits a country that has an extradition treaty with India and India requests that country to arrest him and extradite him.

If Rauf is innocent, there is no need to hide. Simple as that.

He knew his team will lose.
He bet on his team losing.
His team lost.
How could that be without the involvemet of at least some of his players?

# On 19th May in a conversation between Gurunath and Vindoo at 19:26 hrs, Gurunath told Vindoo - ' we are going to win hundred percent'. CSK won that match.
As above, except involvement of at least some players from the opposition.

# On 12th May in a conversation between Guru and Vindoo, Guru tells Vindoo that his team will make runs anywhere between 130 and 140. That days CSK made exactly 141 runs. The match was between CSK and RR.
Players from both teams involved?

# On 13th May at 14.45 hrs Vindoo called Guru asking what was he doing ? Guru replied that he was sitting in his boat and watching the match. Vindoo says - why are you sitting in your boat, go sit with your team and pass on information to me, so that I can place bets.
Information as in, "Which player is going to do what and when?".

The more one looks at it the greater the suspicion that players from the CSK, as well as from other teams, were involved.

This could turn out to be far bigger than anyone might think. That is unless they decide to pin everything on a few scapegoats in order to shield some big players.

When the police go after dhoni and srinasavan, only then will there be any semblence of credibility in this investigation.

Yes i knew about those points before you made the post.

The point being, that all his acts after his name came up points towards his participation.
Now with all the precise convo time stamps etc, chances of his involvement have become more prominent.

Now just because of technicalities, an offender will be getting away scot free and that will be a real travesty. There should be some understanding at some level to get such measly offenders in their right places.

In which case, what's the purpose of making a comment like "there should be some pressure on PCB to do something significant as well" when you know its nothing to do with the PCB and they can't do anything even if they wanted to?

As for getting away scot free, no criminal should get away with committing a crime. Having said that, I suspect someone like Rauf will more likely be used as a scapegoat in order to shield bigger culprits.

So the owner of CSK placed bets on CSK losing. Why isn't CSK being investigated?

As for Rauf, the evidence all suggests he is guilty. This is the second time it appears he's been caught with behaviour falling short of the standards someone should have when representing their country. I personally believe the PCB should have at least put him on a formal warning, if not actually sacking him after his alleged affair for conduct which could bring the game into disrepute. These latest allegations, if true, should see him banned from involvement in cricket at any level for life and imprisoned.

As usual Indian Police going after easy targets.

Lets see them target the big boys as well.

Banned, yes. Under the rules that if one cricketing board issues a ban, all the other boards will honor that ban.

However, the PCB has no jurisdiction to imprison him, only a court can do that. And a Pakistani court will not imprison him on the simple say so of an Indian court.

Not just easy prey. The majority of those charged are alleged bookies based in Pakistan. As if the vast illegal gambling networks in India are controlled by Pakistani bookies. :))

The simple fact is that involving someone from Pakistan is a convenient way to divert the Indian public's attention away from the big Indian names that are likely to be involved. In the absence of Pakistani players in the IPL, the only option left was a Pakistani umpire and some alleged Pakistani bookies.

There were 80 calls exchanged between Asad Rauf and bookie Vindoo Dara Singh between April 12 and May 17 (AP)

Eleven belts, eight suits, a Panasonic nasal hair trimmer, seven pieces of dress materials for women and a Tommy Hilfiger pen...these are just a few of the expensive gifts that bookies had allegedly bought for controversial Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf during the IPL tournament earlier this year, according to the chargesheet filed by the Mumbai Police in the betting and spot-fixing case.

IPL spot-fixing case: ICC drops umpire Asad Rauf from Champions Trophy

The 11,000-page document also has details of telephone intercepts of May 12 in which Rauf, while allegedly placing bets with bookie Prem Taneja, is quoted as confirming receiving a watch and demanding Rs 2 lakh to go shopping.

Asad Rauf: Many right calls and a few wrong ones

Following this alleged conversation, according to information provided by Taneja during interrogation, the Mumbai-based bookie sent two bags that were to be delivered to Rauf through his brother Arun Taneja in New Delhi by Air India cargo.

Spot-fixing probe: Extradition proceedings likely against Asad Rauf

The cargo was allegedly sent on May 20. However, Prem Taneja was arrested on May 21 at the airport while trying to leave the country. Subsequently, Mumbai police asked Air India for the custody of the bags and they were sent back to Mumbai on May 23.

According to the chargesheet, one of the bags contained a yellow-and-black Adidas shirt, blue Sports Co 2002 shirt, black-and-green Nike sports shoes, white Nike sports shoes, eight suits, black, brown and blue shoes, two Celia and Barrom Co trousers, Adidas shorts, 10 Nike and Celio T Shirts, a Panasonic nasal hair trimmer, a Tommy Hilfiger pen and nine black leather belts.

The second bag contained three Pune Warriors t-shirts which had 'Rahul', 'Ali Zaidi' and 'Smith' written on the back along with track pants. It also contained two Mumbai Indians t-shirts and one jacket which had 'Harbhajan' written on the back.

Apart from these IPL team jerseys, the bag contained six leather hand purses, four leather pocket purses, two sando vests, green coloured clothes, two pairs of socks and one black hand purse with three marble stone pieces.

The police has also seized some bills. Three of them — two dated April 25 (worth Rs 6,000 and Rs 38,500), one on April 26 (Rs 22,000), were paid for by Taneja. All the bills were in the name of Asad Malik.

Rauf was in Mumbai on May 14 as he was to officiate in the match between the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals on May 15.

In fact, there were 80 calls exchanged between Rauf and bookie Vindoo Dara Singh between April 12 and May 17. Rauf's local phone number and sim card is said to have provided to him by Sanjay Chhabra, a well-known bookie, for whom Taneja was working.

During one of those calls, Rauf is believed to have asked for 'birthday gifts' from Vindoo. According to the police transcripts, Rauf told Vindoo: "Do you know my birthday is coming up?" to which the actor replied: "Asadbhai, don't worry, we will take care of it. I will convey the message to Pawanbhai (Pawan Jaipur, a bookie)."

Rauf had refuted allegations of accepting gifts from bookies. "Let them prove something. I mean, if it was the case that I have taken a favour or a gift or money was given to me...You got to prove allegations," Rauf had said.

Mumbai police have not been able to interrogate Rauf in as he fled the country soon after reports of his alleged involvement surfaced.

IPL corruption case: Pakistan Cricket Board won't force Asad Rauf to be questioned by Mumbai cops

Pakistan Cricket Board legal advisor says there is no mechanism to force Asad Rauf to go to Mumbai in case summons are issued to him. Rauf has been named in the Mumbai Police chargesheet for his alleged involvement in match-fixing and betting.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has said it can't force umpire Asad Rauf to go to Mumbai to be questioned in the IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal. Rauf was named as a 'wanted accused' in the chargesheet filed by the Mumbai Police on Saturday.

PCB legal advisor Tafazzul Rizvi said as there is no extradition treaty between Pakistan and India, there is no mechanism available to 'convince' Rauf to face the charges in person.

"The PCB has no mechanism to force or convince him (Rauf) to go to Mumbai in case summons are issued to him," Rizvi was quoted as saying. "One thing is clear that he is a retired umpire and this is a matter between him and the Mumbai police and the IPL and International Cricket Council. The PCB is not a party to this," Rizvi said.

However, Rizvi added that a solution to the problem would be to record Rauf's statement in Pakistan, if required.

Soon after Rauf's name cropped up in the IPL 2013 corruption scandal in May this year, the 57-year-old immediately left for Pakistan and was dropped by the ICC for the Champions Trophy in June. The umpire is alleged to have placed bets through bookies on certain IPL matches he officiated and in return received 'gifts', including jewellery and clothing.

Rauf however has vehemently denied all accusations against him and has repeatedly claimed his innocence. He had earlier stated that he was dropped from the ICC's elite panel of umpires because his contract was over. Rauf also said he would explain his stand to ICC's Anti-corruption Unit.

"I have been an employee of ICC. The ICC has its own anti-corruption unit. Like police they also investigate. When they call me, I will answer them through my legal advisor. I have done five IPLs and my decisions have been 100 per cent correct. I will answer to ICC regarding these allegations," Rauf said.

Rauf may be guilty as hell. But there's obviously far bigger fish, especially in the CSK setup, including almost certainly some players, that the authorities are trying to divert attention from by having the media focussing on the 'big bad' Pakistani umpire. If you can't see that considering so many 'coincidences' in this affair involving CSK in one way or another then you are deluding yourself.

You are the expert & in the know

Launching a defence of the spot-fixing allegations against him, Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf has said that taking gifts is not a crime but a part of culture. "Giving and taking gifts is a tradition. Taking gifts is not a crime, it is part of Asian culture," he said.

Rauf has been named as a 'wanted accused' in the IPL corruption case chargesheet filed by the Mumbai police. The umpire is alleged to have placed bets through bookies on certain IPL matches he officiated and in return received 'gifts', including jewellery and clothing.

"There wasn't any expensive jewelry in my bags, it contained 'chaadars' brought from different shrines," said Rauf, denying the allegations.

He also denied allegations that he left bags behind while 'escaping' from India. "I requested Vindoo Dara Singh (fellow accused) to send those bags to Delhi Airport."

Soon after Rauf's name cropped up in the IPL 2013 corruption scandal in May this year, the 57-year-old immediately left for Pakistan and was dropped by the ICC for the Champions Trophy in June. Rauf however has vehemently denied all accusations against him and has repeatedly claimed his innocence. Pakistani cricket umpire Asad Rauf, right, arrives with his lawyer Syed Ali Zafar to address a news conference in Lahore, Pakistan, Friday, Sept. 27, 2013. Zafar says Rauf will not be appearing in Indian court over spot-fixing charges as he has no confidence in Mumbai police, who framed charges against the Pakistani umpire.

The Mumbai police have got records of conversations between actor Virendra Singh alias Vindu, Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf and the Jaipur bookie brothers Pawan and Sanjay Chabra that reveal that Rajasthan Royals and Hyderabad Sunrisers were their favourite teams.

While the police have already filed a charge sheet in the IPL fixing scam, these transcripts will be included as additional evidence in a supplementary chargesheet.

In the tapes, which are from May 12 to 16, Vindu is heard discussing matches and betting gains and losses with Rauf and even Rauf's birthday celebration; he finally asks Rauf to "break" his SIM card and flee the country.

TRANSCRIPT 1

Rauf: Today is my happy birthday, please order a cake.

Vindu: Dada, call up Sanju and tell them Dada has liked a wrist watch worth Rs 6 lakh, he keeps gifting; ask him to gift you this watch. I will call up Pawan, you call up Sanju and demand the gift.

Vindu: Aap bolo...aapka present bhi aur mera bhi leke aaj hi aa jaye.

Vindu: Dada, RCB and Sunrisers should come for the finals, and if they win people will get ruined, and we will win.

Rauf: Where is the RR and CSK match (being) played?

Vindu: In Rajasthan...it is still not decided, the order is yet to come. If there is an order from above, who are we? Small fry.

TRANSCRIPT 2

Prem Teneja (bookie): Dada, where are you?

Rauf: I am shopping at Linking Road. What is the rate?

Prem: 53 paise, Rajasthan Royals ... ten runs in three overs, and I like Chennai.

Rauf: Meri aadhi peti kha lo tum (I bet Rs 50,000).

Prem: Ok.

TRANSCRIPT 3

Vindu: Have you seen your gold chain? It's thick, if you see you will be happy, but if you take it to Pakistan it will be (a) problem.

Rauf: Why?

Vindu: Think twice, if you wear you will be scanned at the airport. So please hide it inside the T-shirt. And ask them to give a receipt and to show they've given you a heavy discount.

Rauf: Ok.

TRANSCRIPT 4

Rauf: What happened?

Vindu: Abe, you did not watch TV news?

Rauf: What?

Vindu: Players have been picked up. Switch off all cell phones, break the SIM cards.

Rauf: Ok.

Vindu: Three players of Rajasthan have been arrested, and there is buzz that 40 more to go...they have got all of them...you take a flight and go to Pakistan, darling, I love you.

"40 more to go"?

But no more arrested since that conversation took place? :13:

you take a flight and go to Pakistan, darling, I love you.
So all the talk about Rauf and a model/actress was to distract attention away from Rauf's true love. :))

Well he has retired from all forms of umpiring. And I doubt Pakistan can/will extradite him to India.

So I don't think he has anything to worry about.

didnt know that he retired from umpiring. Probably got a lot of job offers from...

Ok I should not talk about it since its against forum rules

I reckon the 3 players are just tip of the iceberg, if they can rope in a national player like Sreesanth into this mess, surely many other fringe players might be involved or maybe bigger names. With Meiyappan's arrest there might some more revelations soon.

Why arent the CSK players under scrutiny?

They continue to play in the Champions league..

This is just tip of the iceberg, and few being made scapegoats in this whole scandal..

The police wont dare touch the more powerful. I agree with Rauf on one thing at least that there is no faith in either the Mumbai or the New Delhi police

Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf was a renowned ICC umpire. Asad has umpired 170 international games (49 Tests, 98 ODIs and 23 T20Is) from 2000-2013. As of now in 2022, Asad Rauf runs a shop in Landa Bazaar in Lahore.

Asaf Rauf provides branded clothes, shoes in his shop at an affordable price. Rauf said that he runs this shop to fulfil the requirements and wages of his staff. Former umpire said: “Bhai, ye mera kaam nahi hai, ye mere staff ki rozi lagi hui hai, ye mai unke liye krta hu (This isn’t for me, this is the daily wages of my staff, I work for them).”

Asad Rauf was banned by BCCI in 2016 for five year on the allegations of involvement in match fixing. He was found guilty of corrupt practices and being in connection with bookies due to which he permanently left umpiring and stopped following cricket.

When asked by Paktv.tv if he still follows cricket, Asad Rauf said: ” No, I’ve umpired in so many games all my life, there’s no one left to see now. I haven’t been in touch with the game since 2013, because once I leave something I leave it completely.”

Asad Rauf also umpired in several IPL seasons. When asked about his experience of umpiring in IPL , Rauf said: “I have spent my best time in IPL apart from these issues that came later on. I had nothing to do with these issues, the allegations came from the BCCI’s side and they took the decision on me themselves.”

Asad Rauf further revealed that he wants to take his shop to another level. “It is my habit to reach the peak of whatever work I do. I started work as a shopkeeper, I have reached its peak. I played cricket, I reached the peak. And then when I started out as an umpire, I said to myself that I need to reach the peak here as well.”, said Asad Rauf.

Former ICC elite panel umpire Asad Rauf had a controversial end to his career. Currently owning a thrift shop to sell clothes and shoes at Landa Bazaar in Lahore, the 66-year-old was accused of taking bribes from bookies and also placing bets on matches during IPL 2013. Speaking to Cricket Pakistan, Rauf denied all claims and also revealed that he has a judge's verdict as evidence to prove that he is innocent. "The supposed incident occurred in 2013 and BCCI were asleep for three years. They opened up an inquiry in 2016 and it was a forced inquiry because there was no truth to it", he stated.

"They failed to present any substantial proof against me and I still have the judge's verdict which states that any proof or evidence against Asad's case is missing in charge".

The former umpire also explained that he had already planned his resignation after 2013 and had informed ICC. He also revealed that the ICC never approached him regarding the controversy.

"I told ICC that I will be handing in my resignation after 2013. I am answerable to ICC and not to the BCCI; if the BCCI wanted to lodge a one-side case against me in India then that's on them. Because as far as I am concerned, the ICC never took charge of the situation because there was no truth to these allegations to begin with", he explained.

Other than his thrift store, Rauf also owns an iron and metal business and he claims to have started both before his umpiring career began.

"This work [Landa bazaar shop] is an old business of mine and had I not pursued becoming an umpire, I would have been doing this exact thing. Along with this, I also have an iron and metal business. I started all these things long before I decided to pursue umpiring", he said.

Because as far as I am concerned, the ICC never took charge of the situation because there was no truth to these allegations to begin with

If that was the case, I'm surprised he didn't take any legal action regarding the issue.
