He can be a good number 3 for the ODIs but only two out of Azhar, Sami, and Shafiq can be in the playing eleven.

Doesn't mean anything
And he isn't even a 6 batsman
Chicken ran from 3 back to 6
He should be 4/5
Golden boy is protected

Pathetic.
Shafiq now has a century in Australia, England and South Africa. He really should be averaging much higher than what he is now. Quality batsman.

Are you suggesting Shafiq > Sobers?![]()
Did he ask management that he wants to bat at 3? did he ask management that he does not want to bat at 3?
Whatsoever the case, the fact is that number 3 in the Pakistani team is held by a newbie test player and the so called senior player is hiding at the number 6 spot after failing at number 3. Giving credit where due is nice but recency bias should not cloud your judgement.
Except everything you just said is rubbish. There are multiple interviews from team members (and shafiq) over the last two days that Mickey has asked him to go back to six in order to play Azam upfront. Such ignorance in this day and age of Google and Twitter is inexcusable

No you should stop being lazy and go to the Australian grandstand website and the cricket Australia website and listen to the interviews. If you want to indulge in amateur theories I can recommend a few shows on ptv with bitter ex players and ex employees who inhabit the same reality that you are in.Oh, definitely, it is the "actual" reason for his shift to number 6. I guess i should believe in this drivel because you are saying so.
I agree but Is that Asad's decision to go back at 6? Does asad have authority to decided where he wants to bat?

He was demoted for a better word for not being able to perform at the number 3 which was supposed to be his natural progression from number 6. You don't play in number 6 position in cricket for whole of your cricketing life as a batsman.

Look, i am basing my opinion on this: http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/s...go-back-to-his-old-position-quot-Waqar-Younis
I am not the only one. Read the comments of rest of these posters. Most of them believe he has been demoted. I am not saying that you are wrong but what is put out externally does not always mirror what is going inside the team.
natural progression from number 6 to would be number 5??? How come he would go to 3? Then what about misbah and YK's progression?
Forgive my snark - it was not required.
I agree with you he was demoted because he did at number 3 what he has done in his career so far: a few high scores and then single digit scores: so it was not very convincing. What I am litigating here is that it does not seem to be his decision to bat at number 6.
I think with the probable retirements of YK and Misbah, he should be our new #4 on a permanent basis as he is surely our best test batsman.
Missing: Shafiq haters who wanted him dropped for Fawad/Rizwan/Sharjeel/Akmal just because he failed to bully the West Indies at home. If found, please disregard anything they tell you from now on because they clearly have zero idea what they are talking about.
Number 4 and 5 are already occupied. 3 was the vacant spot. Progression has to do with him jumping up from 6 to any of the number above.

Gilly no.7 spot right?
Shafiq becomes the 15th Pakistan player to score 10 test hundreds.
4 of the 15 are playing in this test.
