Wicketkeeper-batter back as Bangladesh name Asia Cup squad

Bangladesh named a 16-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup next month.

Litton Das will take charge of the 16-member Bangladesh squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. The outfit unveiled by the Bangladesh Cricket Board will also feature against the Netherlands in a three-game T20I series preceding the Asia Cup.

The side sees the return of wicketkeeper-batter Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan who has received a call-up to the Bangladesh T20I side after almost three years. The 31-year-old had last featured in the format during the 2022 edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia.

Featuring the finest of teams in Asia, the upcoming eight-side tournament will be a crucial step in Bangladesh's journey towards the ICC Men's T20 World Cup next year.

Bangladesh are slotted in Group B along with Afghanistan, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka.

Squad:

Litton Das (c), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Saif Hassan, Tawhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali Anik, Shamim Hossain, Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Shaif Uddin

STANDBY (For Asia Cup Only): Soumya Sarkar, Mehidy Hassan Miraz, Tanvir Islam, Hasan Mahmud

Litton Das, who led Bangladesh to their maiden T20I series win against Sri Lanka followed by a series win over Pakistan at home in July, will continue to lead the side as they push their case for the marquee tournament in the subcontinent next year.

Also headlining the squad amongst the experienced campaigners are seasoned pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed.

Meanwhile Soumya Sarkar, Mehidy Hassan Miraz, Tanvir Islam and Hasan Mahmud have been named among the standby players for the upcoming T20I action.

A notable absentee is Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who, alongside Mohammad Naim was part of the squad that featured in the series win against Pakistan but haven't been included in the latest squad.

Bangladesh will go up against Netherlands in the first of three T20Is on August 30 in Sylhet.

GOAT Bangladeshi opening pair. Middle order is still iffy. But the bowling attack is world class as expected

What do you think of the overall squad? I am not familiar with many of new bunch of Bangladeshi players. What is your expectation bro
No questions about selection. It's probably the best T20 squad BD can play at the moment. There are a lot of all-rounders in the squad. Although, it's missing our best T20 batsmen in youngsta beauty Jishan Alam.

Lots of youngsters.

I think they should beat SL and Hong Kong but may lose to Afghanistan. I expect them to go to Super Four.

My picks for Super Four --> Pakistan, India, BD, and Afghanistan.

Already supposing Afg vs Pak final. Will be more heated than Pak vs Ind

I like Nasum very much and I think if the pitch even has slight support for spinners, both him and Rishad should play. But putting Rishad at 7 shortens the batting.

Shamim I'm not sold on yet as a lower order batter. Jaker Ali can use a promotion to bat at no. 4-5 but then who will come at the death? There's no better for that role currently than Jaker.

He is very handy allrounder to have for these conditions , yes he is not powerful hitter but good enough to play for team like Bangladesh. :kp
He's not good in this format though. Mahedi, Nasum and Rishad are all far better spin options

I would've played Saif Hasan as a batting allrounder instead of Mahedi. Play extra batsman and ask everyone to bat at higher SR.
I haven't seen much of Saif Hasan but isn't Mahedi supposed to be an all-rounder? Because they've been playing him at 7

Yeah, Shamim is not there yet. However, IF inform can change the game in the last few overs. Recently, his bowling has improved, so now can slot in as an allrounder.
