Agreed but Kohli has opened before and shown he can excel at it at the end of the day you need the best team on the field and this team fits the bill imo.

T20 cricket doesn't matter much and he has only excelled in IPL as a opener.... in international cricket he has failed as an opener even in t20's....
And when we are talking abt ODI XI, T20 performances cant be a parameter for that..

60 from 55 was fine on slow wickets in Mirpur or say Eden gardens. But these days everywhere if you were in a strong position 60 from 55 don't win you matches on uber flat tracks.

He hasn't improved his game over the years. Perhaps look at some other successful finishers these days, they all are playing the upper cut, scoop shots, reverse sweeps against the spinners(heck even pacers).

You have to grow everyday, Dhoni hasn't which is why he isn't as instrumental to India's success as he was in the past
 
Respect Hassan who deserves to be in the team, but lol @ those picking the wicketless Amir over Wicket taking bowlers like Bumrah and Bhuvi.

It's only due to wicket taking bowlers that India has been able to bowl out SA for a cheap score, just economical bowlers aren't enough.

If we are looking at career stats of currently playing bowlers, Malinga, Mathews and Amir are dead set options.

Shami constantly bowls on 300 vs 300 tracks, Shami is miles ahead of amir, any rational fan will agree to that, also compare their stats in world cups, shami was one of the best bowler in the last world cup in australia, don't think amir has even played a world cup

So you expect the UAE tracks to be green mambas?

Look if you pick Shami over Amir or visa visa I will not debate much. I pick him because of his left arm variation, economy and death bowling. If I have a Malinga bowling at his peaks ending 150k yorkers, and Mathews doing line and length, I's rather go for a bowler of Amir's abilities rather than Shami's. If Asif was available he would make the cut above both.
 
Lol at people picking Babar, at no 3.He is very weak batsman who has lot to prove before he is counted as best of anything.

just because Pakistan won one match it suddenly has good players.Pakistan has the worst set of players among all Asian teams.

Indian showed and Bangladesh teams showed how targets are chased down. Unlike Pakistan who looked lost even chasing such a small total and barely made over the line.

I don't think much has changed. I am surprised some lists don't have Hasan in them. Not having Hasan there IMO is criminal, he isn't just the best Asian ODI bowler, he is arguably the best ODI bowler in the world period. Only a fit and peak Starc is better in the ODI format. Hasan has to be the first choice in ODI in any asian xi.

Lets give Hasan atleast one more year. He just had a couple of good series. Same for Bumrah as well.

Sakib isn't even in contention seems a bottler and normally stat pads on weak sides , just isn't good enough in my eyes and a leggie(shaddy) is always a better option than off spin

Fast Forward to 2018 and Jadeja and Jadhav aren't even in Indian side. Bhuvi over Amir :D
Any serious Asian XI will have at least 3 Pakistani's if not 4 and Shadab commands a place in this side due to his fielding alone

Shadab isn't just the best ODI leggy around, he is a pretty damn good batsman and has played solid innings in a number of situations and conditions. Ashraf and Pandy are important, the latter is a great striker of the ball and a handy guy to get a few overs from, the former is much better with the ball and ok with the bat. They help add options.

No Lankans, the batting line up picks itself but maybe Matthews fully fit gets a call but he has been up and down in recent times. Shakib, KOhli and Babar are set in stone for me.

Dhawan, Zaman, Rohit can all rotate in and out. Zaman and Dhawan are better all condition players.
 
Bigger question is who will be the captain of this Asian XI? Kohli and Sarfaraz have both played just one major tournament as captains and we all saw how that went. Infact a big part of the phainti that India received was due to Kohli's captaincy.

Sarfaraz will be my choice of captain even if he doesn't make the Asian XI on absolute batting/keeping merit.

Can't pick DK after 1 good knock. Musfiqar has been consistent for a while. I think Hardik has a lot of potential . Mahmadullah is a good shout though.

Shadab is much better than chahal with bat and although his bowling is going down his batting is good enough to have him ahead of chahal.
Everyone apart from Bumrah is capable of playing well with bat in the team.
Shadab can be replaced with amir or bhuvi for pitches assisting seamers as they are also capable with the bat.

Kuldeep is much better than the overrated Chahal. Pretty sure Raina will come back into the Indian ODI team soon and he was a gun middle order batsman.

Kuldeep and Shadab would be a great combination. One is a chinaman who flights the ball and the other a leggie who bowls a bit flatter. Both of them have a killer googly.

Idk about Shakib > Raina.

Look at this lower-middle order
6. Raina
7. Shadab
8. Kuldeep

You need a finisher. Raina can play fast, but he mainly hits spinners. Against pacers he is better against new ball which is why he bats at 3 in IPL.
Shadab and Kuldeep can't hit.

Your XI is suited to turning tracks only.
