Australia (181 & 162/4) defeat India (185 & 157) by 6 wickets in the 5th Test match and win the 5-match series 3-1

Which side will win the 5th Test between Australia and India?

India should have gone with an extra seamer. THis is a seamer paradise at this point. Mo Shami we miss you badly :( Damn. India did not have these kind of pitches in 2018 and 2021

Unacceptable behaviour of some losers towards a young player.... after Khawaja got out....
Actually Konstas tried to delay the over by needlessly engaging with Bumra at the start of his run up. India could have had an extra over. They are justifiably mad at him.

2 spinners are overkill on this pitch.

Again, had our batsmen been any good, they won't have needed to go with bits and pieces players like Jadeja.

Khawaja wasn't going to survive against Bumrah. Last ball wicket always hurts but Australia will be happy not lose a lot more

Thankfully we have Bumrah-the player & Bumrah-the captain both in this match! So we have hope! Also we got rid of both Rohit-the player & Rohit-the captain... So hopes are double! At least it will be a close game... 2nd innings Indian batting + 1st innings Indian bowling will decide the fate of this match (like Perth - I said that even then)

Bumrah's field sets are better today. Had a short fine leg, short leg and short midwicket. This is in contrast with Rohit's field set of deep point, deep fine leg.

Konstas definitely a bit too impetuous. He had no business interfering in that time-wasting tactic from Khawaja. That being said, his-risk-high-reward game would be best suited to a wicket like this.

Konstas is less so than brother Siraj. I can't believe he spit while Head came to bat.

In hindsight India should have declared a bit earlier. Seems like this pitch looks bad today. May get flattened out tomorrow. Indian batting let them down so badly.

I am violent as I do boxing. I like violent sports. I need to see more of this from india.

Team India should keep their cool. Aussie players are not in the same league. We don't need to fight with them.

Bumrah made the wrong call deciding to bat first. Seeing how green the witcket was in overcast conditions, why would you put your maladjusted batting lineup to test? Bumrah would have run through Australian batsmen on this pitch. He might not get such a bowling friendly wicket tomorrow.

The pitch actually got tougher as the day went on. If the trend persists than India probably got the best use of the conditions. Maybe it flattens out tomorrow.

Did you not see Konstas needlessly picking the fight with Bumrah first?
Khawaja was not ready yet, asked the bowler to hold on, same signalled by Konstas to bowler with hand. However Bumrah complained about Khawaja being not ready

One thing we know for sure, we are getting a result out of this match. Great chance for India to level the series 2-2

That was between Khwaja, Bumrah and umpire. What was the need for Konstas to engage? Even Fox commentators are saying Konstas is humbled and learned a lesson but Pakistanis here still supporting him.

I wouldn't support him if siraj and kohli didn't turn BGT into a circus. Blame them. Jahil logo kei sath jahil hi hona parta hai.

India should've batted carefully and get to like 240+ which would been very good on this pitch.

Sam Konstas has digged a hole for himself by getting into argument with Bumrah. The conditions will assist seamers heavily till the sun comes out and Konstas is a wicket almost guaranteed tomorrow morning. He has just spiced up Bumrah who is steaming in with the new ball.

Please stay away from Personal attacks. Talk about this match only or leave the thread clean for others

If I am India, I am hoping for this misery to end sooner rather than later.

This has not been Aus vs India. This has been Aus vs Bumrah. Or shall
we say Aus vs “legal” arm flex? Either way, painful to watch.

We robbed with 10 over just because pathetic over rate by Australian bowlers

I hope they face heavy penalty .

India needs to take minimum 3or 4 wickets in morning session to stay alive in this game .

But chances are very slim .

Australia bowlers put hosts ahead in spite of late Bumrah hitback

Jasprit Bumrah claims a wicket off the final ball of the day though Australia enjoy the better day one in Sydney.

India captain Jasprit Bumrah took a wicket off the final ball the third session to end an eventful opening day of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Test.

Having dismissed India for 185 late in the final session, Australia came in to bat in the closing minutes on Friday.

Sam Konstas laid down a marker at the Sydney Cricket Ground, charging down the pitch and hitting Jasprit Bumrah for a boundary off the first all of Australia's reply late on day one.

The Indian skipper though, gave the visiting side something to cheer about as he managed to induce an outside edge off Usman Khawaja, which was safely pouched by KL Rahul in the slip cordon.

Despite of the early wicket, the host pacers had done enough during the day to hand Australian an upper hand in Sydney.

Earlier, a disciplined effort from the Australian quicks restricted India, with Scott Boland the pick of the bowlers, claiming a four-wicket haul, including two wickets in quick succession in the final session.

Boland broke Rishabh Pant's resistance with a short ball, luring the left-hander into top-edging a pull shot, which was taken by Pat Cummins at short mid-wicket. It was followed by another breakthrough off the next delivery, as Nitish Kumar Reddy nicked behind to Steve Smith at first slip.

Shortly afterwards, Mitchell Starc then brought Jadeja's gritty stand to an end as the left-arm quick trapped the Indian all-rounder plumb. Washington Sundar, who had scored a vital half-century in Melbourne, was the next to fall before Starc returned to claim his third wicket, getting rid of Prasidh Krishna.

Taking over the captaincy for the final Test, Jasprit Bumrah (22) added late runs to the total before he was removed by his Australian counterpart to wrap up the Indian innings.

Earlier, Pant alongside Jadeja had moved the score past three figures in a second session rebuild on day one. At one stage 72/4 after the loss of Virat Kohli (17), Pant (40) had been watchful at a strike rate just over 40, with Jadeja (26) also grinding in the batting response.

Kohli was the fourth player to depart for India, edging to Beau Webster off the bowling for Scott Boland's second wicket of the contest, though his stay at the crease was an eventful one, surviving a first-ball scare when a potential catch was sent upstairs to the third umpire.

Reviewing the combined effort of a sprawling Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, Joel Wilson deemed the ball touched the ground in the process of Smith trying to keep the catching chance alive, and thus not satisfying the conditions of a fair catch.

Earlier, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon claimed wickets in the morning session, removing KL Rahul (four) and Shubman Gill (20).

Boland's impact as Australia's first-change bowler was immediate, forcing a Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) edge to Australian debutant Beau Webster for his first contribution as a Test cricketer.

Kohli made it to the lunch break, losing Gill with the final ball of the session, though also found himself edging to Webster, who took a sharp catch to his left to bring out Jadeja.

Most of the attention of Sydney's Friday morning has been centred around India's camp, with confirmation at the toss of Rohit Sharma's omission from India's XI in the quest to level the series, and claim the 12 World Test Championship points to keep their slim hopes of a Lord's final alive.

It was Jasprit Bumrah in the captain's blazer, electing to bat after winning the toss in spite of both overcast skies and a Sydney wicket a little greener in colour than previous Tests at the venue.

Bumrah stated Sharma had "opted" to be rested for the Test and was replaced by Shubman Gill, while Akash Deep (back) was replaced by Prasidh Krishna in the XI.

Australia had confirmed their XI a day before play, with Webster handed national Test cap 469.

Australia is tactically a far superior team. They will come prepared tomorrow knowing they have a great chance to dominate India. Only thing standing between India and defeat is Bumrah.

That's why they have not beaten India in a test series since 2014?

The cycle of deluded Indians fan in this series:

First, they thought they would win the series after Adelaide. Then they brushed off the pink ball drubbing as it was not real Test cricket.

Then they brushed of the lucky escape at Brisbane and claimed they will bounce back in MCG because the conditions would suit them.

Then they said Rohit has been dropped and they will square the series under the captaincy of Bumrah in Sydney.

Now after the first innings capitulation, they are saying Bumrah will take 10 tomorrow morning and bundle Australia for less than a 100.

When Australia wins this Test as well, which they 100% will, they will then lick their wounds by saying that it’s fine, they have already won twice in Australia, the umpires cheated, Pakistan are 17-0 in Australia etc.

Yes 250 would have competitive scores on this pitch.

Gill and pant were thrown their wickets at crucial staged.
Gill is responsible for his departure but pant did his part with little blame. jadeja have to share some blame for pant.both guys occupied the crease but did nothing to score any quick singles too. They were playing forever with out intent .

Perth was a fluke win for India. It also made the series more fun because it increased the delusion of Indian fans which is why they are now crying even more than they would have had they lost in Perth as well. Australia gave them a lollipop before destroying them.

But but 17-0 and India winning in Australia since 1874

We have also beaten you in a WTC final and 2023 WC final (on your own home turf when you were unbeaten all tournament) during that time. 2 finals, you know where tactics also matter.

Why Australia didn't gave that lolipop to other subcontinent team . India is already won there so we don't need any favour.

But why not australia do it with others because they cant win anything or even drawn the game .

Better to give that lolipop who hasn't won anything so they can motivated for the future test and series .

Hope all the washed up oldies leave India with this series. INdia could have easily beaten Australia without this Lohli, Rohit, Jadeja. Ashwin was instrumental in last series win. THey forced him to retire.

@Mamoon bro, Aussies will be bowled out at a low score tomorrow and it will be repeat of Perth test. Pitch will become good for batting and Kohli will score runs this time as media will go gung-ho and make statements such as,

1. Form is temporary, class is permanent.

2. Once a legend always a legend. The legend of Kohli has arrived again.

3. This is a knock of a genius. Langer with his cringe voice will claim that he is the greatest batsman in the history of cricket that I have played with or against and he showed it today why.

Talking about Pakistan is their favorite coping mechanism.

Pakistan vs. Australia was way better entertainment than this snooze fest, aka "Bumrah (or should I say *legal* arm flex) vs. Australia." Even though Pakistan had no practice games, A tours and all the help India gets

That Aussie team had Warner, Hazlewood, and an in-form Marsh, yet Pakistan had them on the ropes for large stretches. It was competitive cricket, not this one-sided drubbing.

What’s interesting is that the humiliation isn't just from Australia—it's also courtesy of Gambhir, the saffron loudspeaker. He couldn’t resist settling scores with Indian stars like Rohit Sharma, turning this series into his own personal grudge match. Bravo, coach!

Translates into "We got pounded by Australia, gracefully" Set your expectations high. You seem like super content with your team's performance.

The 2018 series win was legit for India, but 2021? That was a total fluke. None of Natarajan, Saini, or Thakur lasted even two weeks after that series. Australia underestimated the gentle military medium net bowlers, got caught napping, and Pant was still a fresh face back then.

Now that Australia came prepared? It’s back to business as usual.

Kohli running away like a coward after the 36 all out humiliation helped India as well, but it badly exposed him as a leader. He should have been sacked as captain after that tour.
