What's new

Australia [285/7] defeat England [221] by 64 runs and reach semi-finals of World Cup 2019

If people want to know why it's a dead atmosphere it's because there is a lot of MCC members in the ground. They are usually older people who attend Lord's games. If it was at another ground , there could have been more younger fans which would have ensured a better atmosphere than this.

MCC members were there in the Pavilion stand with their ties on the other day for the Pak game but that atmosphere was electric because of the rest of the crowd.

England bowling far too short so far, not making the best use of everything the ball is doing. Poor bowling, needed to take a wicket in the powerplay,

You should not call their batting lucky. You should give credit to them (especially warner) for not following the ball. They just play the line which is the best thing to do in these conditions.

England have bowled decently but no wickets. Mamoon if it was Amir you would be calling it not good enough. Let's see if you hold your favourite team to the same standard. :uakmal

They have been taking wickets in the opening overs regularly, for Amir and Pakistan, it is a rarity.

All of IND is supporting England today, because an ENG win doesn't help Pak. :srini

Of course, rest of the world is supporting Australia.

Nobody really likes this overrated and overhyped ENG team, especially their captain who hasn't really inspired fans. Plus "350 is par" and "we'll make 500".

Lol no. Australia all the way.

Nasser is a completely different commentator when he is not commenting on Pakistan, where he becomes a lazy cliche machine.

I am done with this farce. Pathetic batting by these two, surviving on pure luck.

Quite a sedate start by Aussies. They are targeting may be 275-300 sort of total

The atmosphere is not dead!
This is how sophiscated, well mannered people behave!
Applaud at a good shot or a wicket being taken!
Not running up and down , looking for the tv cameras and screaming their heads off like subcontinent fans!
Class not crass!

Keep in mind Bhuvaneswar did that to Finch in Australia where ball was not really jagging around. So it is an epic fail from England for not getting him out with new ball.

I really hate to say this but I hope Australia win.

Forgive me.

But England have contained really well.

I think there is a lot more MCC members. This game should not have been at Lord's. Should have been at Nottingham or Old Trafford .

Just few month back finch was struggling big time and now he looks completely different player .Amazing turnaround

This is a fair point. But a good atmosphere makes the game even more enjoyable.

Gotta feel for Morgan, let his bowlers loose on Australia after winning the toss on a very favourable bowling pitch, the ball seaming and bouncing, but he's been let down by very sloppy bowling by Woakes and Archer.

What ever the conditions this is a big call from ENG to chase. Anything over 250 and the pressure will be huge. Aus pacers will bring their A game vs the rivals.

How is this sedate, on the most seam+swing friendly track of the last 5 years?

Aus on top here.

England wish they had a Pigeon to win them the game within 10 overs. Even NEO would've been handy here to say the least🤣🤣🤣🤣

They have Lyon. They have a few lefties in their line up. He is miserly. On bigger grounds you can't really target him. Their wicket taking in the middle overs have improved dramatically with his selection.

If England can't take a wicket before Australia reaching 100 it's game over for them...

Taunton was as bowler friendly as this for that Pak-Aus game. Our bowlers were atrocious bar Amir.

Still happening. Ball is technically 6 over old. They can still nip him out. But they have to keep pegging not bowl one incoming delivery every 10 deliveries.

Lol, Eng bowlers not able to get even one wicket here. They wouldn't get more favorable conditions in the tournament.

And folks have the audacity to criticize Amir, the highest wicket taker of the tournament. :amir

I think, wicket is not that difficult as it looks & Poms are wasting new ball. Warner & Finch are quite cautious and playing with a target in mind. Warner isn’t in best touch either.

Definitely Aussies are on top here.

You're ignoring one basic fact that the strike bowlers can't just keep bowling.

They have a quota of 10 overs, and will now bowl the rest of the overs at the death.

One wicket will bring 2 on this pitch for the sake of Pakistan chances lets pray it doesn't happen

The only team who can stop Australia for me is India. I don't care if England win today or about what they did to them in bilateral games. Australia know how to win pressure games. England have lost pressure games in the last 2 ICC tournaments. So I would not trust them .

This is high class batting with a bit luck .Aus openers have shown amazing mental strength on difficult wicket

This is an excellent start by the Aussies. Cautious against the new balls, now it’s time to free up. They certainly have a gameplan. Wish this planning could be hammered in our players’ brains as well.

English bowlers have struggled with their lengths at Lords for the past few years, especially in Tests where even the likes of Broad and Anderson haven’t exploited the conditions properly.

Eng / SA should realise you can beat the likes of aus pak black & blue in bilaterals, come an icc pressure match they will turn you over.

Especially if u make stupid decisions to win toss & bowl first.

Mistakes being made like Pakistan in the past, too erratic an dtoo short.

England look a traditional line and length swing bowler short on this surface.

Wood is out and out quick who doesn't move the ball much.

England arent going to chase 300 on this pitch, the inclusion of nathan Lyon and jason behrendoff as strengthend the Australian bowling.

Should have tried Curran, bowls well, good fielder and decent with bat.

Lost count of how many teams botched up helpful conditions only to regret later "we should have batted first". Very few teams used the condition better. Bumrah/Bhuvi vs SA. WI vs Pak is not conditions lol Just bounce. That's it. Easily survivable condition. Same way Australia also botched up against bounce. But they did an excellent repair job. Even Rabada wasted conditions a couple of times.

Consistent with their record of having the poorest economy rate among all countries (including minnows) in recent times

Stokes is such a one-dimensional bowler. He was very good when he started. Now he just bowls everything back of the length.

This is not the pitch to include 2 spinners plus choosing not to bat first when you have lost 2 games chasing. Then you dont take a wicket in the first 15 overs in helpful conditions. Aussies have had some luck but they've not lost a wicket in the first 10 overs after the west Indies game so it's not all luck like Mamoon saltily says it is. They look one military medium bowler short though. Wood and Archer aren't the sorts to move it around.

Finch has been excellent in this tournament. Also gotten better since he has been made captain.
