What's new

Australia [285/7] defeat England [221] by 64 runs and reach semi-finals of World Cup 2019

Mean while here in oz there was guy who tried to give the bartender sandpaper for a pint... was duly kicked out

This is bad.

Aus will be lucky to hit even 300 here.

Eng has a good chance of chasing this down. They won't get bogged down with a low total.

What a collapse by Aussies!!! This is ridiculous from them.

Australia have messed it up really badly.
Eng will not be bogged down everyday for below 300 totals.Australia will have to bowl really well.

Stonis and Maxwell following each other doesn't work. I think Carey should bat at 5 or 6.

It seems like this is one of the weakest Australian side to play World Cup, still their fighting spirit has put them in a good position on the table and definitely look like one of the favorites to win it! Outside SC they are always a strong side!

300 and aus wer favourites. As ths pitch isnt so easy to bat on. Its gotten slower. Also 300 psychological advantage Aus and chasing pressure of WC Match

I see Both India very soft at the middle order, this is not the first time Aussies batting is collapsing
after getting terrific start.

No Team is guaranteed for semi no team is unbeatable thats what this world is all about

280 is chaseable for England.

290 is about par considering morning conditions.

300 is a dream right now.

Fantastic effort from the English bowlers to pull their socks up and limit the Aussies to a chase-able score, but 280 will still be highly competitive and the comeback from England may have come a bit too late.

Is it a 280 pitch today?

There's definitely enough in it to be fair for bowlers & keep them interested. It's seamed just about all way through & a couple have turned.

After watching the first 5 overs I'd have said yes, 280. After 25 overs I'd have said no, it's 300 to be in the game.

Sometimes it looks a different pitch when a new team comes on to bowl.

Been similar to the Australia-Pakistan match at Taunton. We sprayed around with the new ball, pulled it back later on.

Wicket is definitely tougher than the Aussie opening pair made it look like. 280+ and Aussies are definitely in it, but they haven't batted Aussies out of it for sure.

And that’s a good thing make it interesting. When Australia were on top it was given they are gonna win.made it boring tbh

Carey is VC of Australia I believe. He is rated highly for a reason. He looks a intelligent player and has character.

Even Stevens IMO. England have the momentum currently with their comeback, but the Aussies have a decent total on the board.

Will be a very close game - but Australia will win considering England will be in immense pressure knowing if they loose this game they are a loss away to destroy 4 years of preparation.

This is not a flat pitch. Ball is swinging even 46th over. I back Aus to defend this.

300 has only ever been chased once at Lords so it would have been an awesome total. 270 is about par.

It's very even. England really began their turn around because Rashid bowled well & Moeen chipped in too with a wicket. Oz don't have wrist spin or reliable spin to turn to in the middle overs...

Carrey knock might well be the difference. What a knock under pressure and tough conditions. Next Aussie captain

Being at Lords 2 days back, I felt Pakistan were about 25 short as I thought 330 would have been a winning score but they proved 308 was just good enough on the day to defend.

I was expecting a target of 330 here. England have come back well.

Australia will now have to defend 285. Without Roy and Bairstow having a bit of added pressure to do well at the top could be a chance there for Aussies.

England will be happy they've restricted Australia below 300 after a horror start, but there's enough in this surface if you bowl in the right areas.

Set up for an excellent contest.

Carey is a good bat isn’t he?? That’s 2 cracking knocks from him in the tournament now. Decent stuff from Australia, particularly the openers.

286 is a big ask for England to chase but it could have been a lot worse, as many as 350 if the bowlers had not got their acts together, so we’ll take it.

Btw England can still get to the semis (whatever happens) if they beat both India and NZ. But a win here would be a huge step if they can get it.

Markhor what is par on this wicket, this looks a match winning total imo there's juice in this wicket and overhead conditions to which will play on the minds of England batsman

285 is very good score here. There is a lot in the pitch for pacers and Nylon is going to get bounce
how English batsmen will cope up with nylon will be the difference

60 : 40 for Aussies and England

carey must bat at 6. has been saving their A## so many times now.

both teams will believe they are in the match will be a cracker

Hopefully England can pull it off, if they do it will be in a thriller; Moeen and Woakes batting at the end to seal the victory :ashwin

To be honest - this overhyped English batting lineup only has 2 match winners Jason Roy and Jos Butler and 1 of them is not playing today. Aussies just need to create pressure on the other batsmen they will give it away themselves but come out with a plan on how to get Butler out cheaply.

Wow Indias chase is still the highest at Lords, considering the pitches that get dished out in England, thought that would be long beaten

If England cannot chase 285 here, there's no way they are going to beat India or NZ.
