What's new

Australia (313/7) comprehensively defeat Pakistan (225) by 88 runs to win the 1st ODI

The problem is pak are playing to their strengths, this is our strength, we do not have any power hitters i am afraid. we barely got anyone who can play a reverse sweep..As much as i would love to see Pak go hard from ball one the fact is we cant, and would probably get rolled out for under 100 most of the time with gung ho tactics. These current players are very limited in their ability an the sooner we realise this the better, Pak are currently a 5th or 6th number team at best, problem is fans are still judging them like they are number 1 team.

Calm down folks, 60/1 in 12 overs chasing 314 against this bowling attack is not at all bad. Pakistan is winning this.

Chacha Ifti says hi!

babar hits a boundary and then plays out 3 dot balls. The over ends with only 6. We have this habit of not maximizing the impact of the boundary.

If Pakistan can keep enough wickets till 35th over (without getting NRR too high), they should win this.

There are plenty of aggressive batsmen in Pakistan if you only play slow ones it won’t change nothing same formula same results.

I will never forget that Babar's innings in Australia where Pakistan was chasing 360 odd and Babar was only content to score his 100. It was the most selfish innings I've ever seen. I gave him the benefit of doubt back then because he was relatively new in international cricket but he's maintained that tempo throughout his career. Never has really looked to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

Our batsmen just play for their averages milking bowling on flat wickets without risk losing matches consistently.

ofcourse Pakistan is a mid-tier team but the problem is when they accept being a mid-tier team. Do they have no ambition to become a top class team? If they have it, then they need to play like the top teams do. Australia were 60/0 after 7 overs despite them batting first with no pressure of chasing a total. They could have easily started at 4.5-5 RPO trying to conserve wickets and then explode at the end but no top team does that nowadays. Pakistan's strength of playing at 4.5 RPO and exploding at the end will keep them at 5th in the ODI table. It's time to reassess that whether that is a strength in modern cricket or not.

Finch giving the fielder an earful for not throwing the ball in the ground :))) Love it!

What can you do when you have a jahaaz chairman Ramiz Raja who has personal issues with players

Question is, can you become a top-tier team without proper infrastructure at grass roots level and a corrupt/inept management board?

Do Pakistani batsmen know about required run rate to win matches? Really makes me wonder at times. Seen this play out far too many times. Slow starts leading to scoreboard pressure layer on.

Australia were 40 runs ahead of Pakistan at this stage. Incredible.

This ODI team has so many accumulators, never going to succeed against top teams. You cannot have Imam, Babar, Rizwan and Saud in the same line-up.

Some things will never change Theres no urgency at all for overs and then they ll play a bug risky shot

We dont need two accumulators They need to get on with it

Pakistan had way less infrastructure in the 80s and 90s than they do now. Lack of infrastructure is not an excuse. Intent doesn't require infrastructure. It requires courage.

Saud hasn't played enough to be labeled just yet. But the first 3 together are a recipe for disaster.

Imam is the worst of the lot who doesn't even try to attack

Pakistan cricket will never change its quiet weird how can one team have the exact same template of cricket since the game started. Cricket was about accumulation back in the day but now it’s about bang bang bang and Pakistan somehow still plays with the exact same approach they had 50 years ago as well it’s crazy we’re in 2022

How can Babar not get these full deliveries away??? Hits them straight to the fielders!! So annoying!

SR of imam is almost 90..

What is he had got out when he was 17 off 25 balls chasing 315. We need someone who can make good use of PP. The accumulators can bat during overs 15-40.
Even if we end up chasing this score our current PP template will still suck

Imam at 35 off 39 is still ok. He's always been the anchor who would make 70 off 80. The problem is Babar who despite being the number 1 batsman doesn't accelerate in the initial part of his innings.

Guess the approach is to delay it to last 10 overs.. and hold wickets India follows the same template and its very annoying.

Think people are forgetting this is an odi, too much t20 has warped peoples way of thinking. Plenty of time left , rrr still very manageable dew will start coming out soon as will aus Inexperienced bowlers , some were saying aus would score 400

Babar is so overrated.
Chasing 314 & he is playing at a SR of 72. At least Imam is playing at a SR of 90

Just be patient, once they get past their 50s they'll wreck havoc on these Aussie newbie bowlers!

ofcourse we have accepted mediocrity , rr of 2.2 is acceptable in tests and below 5 in odis.LOL.

Of course go 5 an over first 30 then chase 8 an over last 20 easier said than done all pressure on other batsmen to score quickly.

I would've thought Yousuf would make a difference to their approach. He understands how to pace innings. We're still stuck in 90s.

Babar leading from the front with a 67 strike rate his limited overs game is regressing.

Babar is playing a sexy little innings at the moment. Stylish blocking. They think Khushdil and chacha will get 10rpo in the last 15 overs.

I just realized that Babar has a tendency to play a shocking innings once in a while. We saw it during the PSL where some of his innings were bizarre and completely devoid of ANY intent. This one might just be one of those.

1 run in 5 balls from our lumber 1 player. He is so annoying but obviously Imam will get all the hate if Pakistan end up losing this game, which they're going to.

5 runs from 2 overs of Stonis is not acceptable, Pakistan are putting themselves under pressure

Strike rate issue getting blown out of proportion

The issue is the Fakhar Imam partnership. We hardly get off to a good start. Either Fakhar gets out being too aggressive, or he hits straight to fielders. Or people blame Imam for being too slow creating pressure on Fakhar. The end result is we are almost always one early wicket down, which creates pressure on the rest of the line up.

It's hard to work out exactly who's fault it is. But I think it's got to change. In T20s the starts we get with Babar and Rizwan are super consistent. We've seen them play together so many times Imam and Fakhar and nearly every match we are complaining. It's time to try a different combination up top, even if we don't drop anyone and just shunt them down the order. I'd like to see Rizwan open especially.

Hate to make this comparison, but this was also Misbah's way of batting. He'd always play the "anchor" and let others keep the RR healthy.

misbah was imited by his ability , this guy has all the talent in the world but just too bent to be in his comfort zone.

Sharjeel has to open , if you have a player like sharjeel and not playing in white ball cricket it is criminal

Babar playing at 70 SR in a chase that requires more than 6 RPO.

Watching this team bat gives me depression.

There’s no joy in being a Pakistan cricket fan, unless it’s a game in an ICC event.

I’d sell my soul just to see the likes of Afridi, Akmal, Malik, Razzaq and Amir back in the team.

One of these two need to take charge and try to get some bigger overs , or it will be too late

Pakistan lack the X factor razzmatazz in their lineup all old school docile characters

Required run rate is 7.28.

It is manageable still. Pakistan should ensure it doesn't go above 9.

Most likely another useless half century from Babar now maybe he can convert this into another useless century.
