Australia (391 & 227/3d) defeat Pakistan (268 & 235) by 115 runs to win 3rd Test - Take series 1-0

First of many home series defeats for Pakistan in the 2020s.
 
This is historic just look at these pictures and u kids care about Pakistan winning lol Rizwan complaining to aleem dar. Plus this was a very weak Pakistani team they managed to skin it out against the best in the world
 
Well done Aussies. I've enjoyed watching the high degree of skill from the bowling. And Khawaja - what a player - Pakistan did not have a clue how to get him out.
 
Aus deserved to win by at least 2-0. Pakistani fans should take comfort from the fact that their 6th ranked team was able to compete with the #1 team courtesy their brave captain who is in the form of his life right now. A great player, Pakistan is very lucky to have him 👏👏. Overall a very entertaining series.
 
Congrats to Australia, outclassed Pakistan in all facets of the game. The question now is whether they can take their performances to the next level in Sri Lanka and even further in India.
 
Yup need to start by getting rid of expired players like Fawad and Azhar.

It wont happen though. Theyll keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again then expecting different results such fools.

Congrats to Australia well deserved.

Pakistan team selection and bonehead batting strategies didn't help but Aus would have found a way to win this test regardless I feel.

Good to see good spirit amongst the players. They are meeting after, talking and autographing shirts etc.

For me the outstanding was the way Cummins and Starc got reverse and the amount of reverse. I didnt think they could do it to this extent. Pace and bounce and hit the deck aussie style yes, but reverse was to a different level.
Khawaja was fabulous, didnt look like getting out. for pak nassim looks a good prospect, Shaheen shah has added onto his increasing reputation.
the commies were total graveyard.
on to white ball cricket now....cant belive in a world cup year -only ONE t20 really?

I don’t know till when will we hide behind the ‘team selection’ excuse. The players were more than equipped to match Australia, who themselves committed so many errors yet emerged victorious in the series just because they had the right intent.

We lost it when our set batsmen were content scoring 25 runs in 17 overs on Day 3, like what absolute nonsense is that? All these players are afraid of losing their places, and when the management sets the tone for the series by proclaiming that they are scared, it gives these useless players even more of a license to just to go out there and play for themselves.

The way Imam and Babar batted today was testament to this. Yes they had lost two batsmen, but they could have tried to counter attack and get on top of the bowlers. Instead the same strategy of blocking everything in sight and then either playing a rash shot throwing your wicket away or eventually getting a good delivery.

You can change the personnel all you want, but until this toxic mindset is removed from our chunnay munnays, this Test team will continue to be humiliated.

should be a whitewash in the odi unless aussies give pak a free win just to liven up the views

Bhai as I said in my post ..bonehead batting strategies..I agree with you mostly. On team selection I was specifically referring to from within the available squad. Picking 5 bowlers thus having a long tail was a poor decision.

That being said as you mentioned intent..Aus would've won this series regardless because of that mindset to win.
 
Congratulations to Australia! Thoroughly deserved.

Being a Pakistani supporter,.I'm disappointed that we lost a home series. However, we deserved to lose as the mindset was negative, timid and clearly feared losing.

Surprising when the person at the helm is Ramiz Raja who portrays himself as someone with a positive and aggressive mindset and he surely had a hand in the pitch preparations, which were ridiculous.

Agreed.

Cummins needs to be applauded, not many captains would have dangled the carrot and declared with 351 runs on the board and 120 odd overs to go. Specially after the unfortunate escape Pakistan managed in the last test. But he stuck to his guns, and made the match so interesting going into the last day. Only for our worthless batsmen to muck it up once more by playing boring and negative cricket.

This is the least watchable team in all of international cricket at the moment, I really hope the fans make them realize that. We have lost before and we have lost badly before, but never has it been this bad where all we expect is a block-a-thon no matter what the conditions.

Losing and winning will happen, but you can't just go block block all the time and hope to avoid a loss. That's a very poor attitude.

I can't recall when I saw any home team playing so negative cricket in entire series. May be BD.

Pakistan played extremely negative cricket this entire series and sole aim was to some how avoid losing with 0-0 score. 1st test, 2nd test and 3rd test ... Mindset was extremely negative entire time.

Pat Cummins says he's a mix of satisfaction and elation at joining two Australian captaincy greats in winning a Test series in Pakistan.

Cummins emulates Richie Benaud and Mark Taylor as the only Australian skippers to lead their team to a series victory in Pakistan.

"It's one of just immense satisfaction for me," Cummins said after Australia's 115-run triumph over Pakistan in the third Test in Lahore on Friday delivered a 1-0 series win.

"Everyone is just totally elated.

"Winning the Ashes series was huge but winning overseas doesn't happen very often."

Only Benaud in 1959 and Taylor in 1998 - captains renowned as Australia's shrewdest leaders - had previously overseen series wins in Pakistan.

Cummins remains unbeaten in his eight Tests as captain - first up, a 4-0 Ashes win over the old foe England and now a 1-0 victory in Pakistan.

And all that after being hustled into the top job in the wake of Tim Paine's resignation because of a sexting scandal just 20 days prior to the start of the Ashes last December.

"The Ashes went quickly and it was satisfying," Cummins said.

"But this was my first big tour where I wasn't a new captain any more.

"We were playing overseas, foreign conditions ... a group of 30-odd people here, players and staff on a mission to try and win the series.

"And as a captain, that's a big responsibility.

"So I think this one is just incredibly satisfying and shown that our group here is a very good cricket team."

Cummins described the three-Test series in Pakistan as 15 days of toil.

"I didn't expect it to go down to the last session of the 15 days," Cummins said.

After drawn encounters in the first and second Tests, the Lahore finale was drifting too.

Then, late on Lahore's third day, Cummins and fellow paceman Mitchell Starc ripped Pakistan's first innings apart by taking 7-20 in the hour that transformed the series.

Cummins took 5-56 and then his bold declaration set Pakistan 351 to win from a maximum 117 overs.

Entering the final day, Australia needed all 10 Pakistan second innings wickets; entering the last session, they still needed five more.

They got them in style, winning with more than 15 overs to spare as spinner Nathan Lyon claimed 5-83 and Pakistan lost their last five wickets for 22 runs.

"Nathan Lyon bowled as well as I have seen him bowl," Cummins said.

"He'd just plant himself up one end and go for two runs an over and feel like he was going to take wickets the whole time."

Appropriately, Cummins delivered the knockout blow, his 3-23 including the last wicket which delivered victory.

The skipper finished the series with 12 wickets at an average of 22.50 and Lyon's dozen victims came at 44.91 apiece.

Complain boys.. Cant bat properly, always falling over when playing shots..

He has been out numerous times like this in his playing career , still not fixed yet.. He is also the vice captain of the team, some even want him as test captain :asif
 
Nathan Lyon's five-for and Pat Cummins' brilliant spell sealed a 115-run win for Australia against Pakistan in Lahore, thus clinching the series 1-0.

Australia's decision to declare early and set a target of 351 with over 100 overs left to play did raise a few eyebrows yesterday. However, Cummins and his men proved that they made the right decision as they beat Pakistan by 115 runs with the match going into the final session.

Nathan Lyon made merry of the fifth-day pitch and picked up a five-wicket haul to break the back of Pakistan's batting lineup. He was well supported by his skipper, who picked up three important wickets on the final day.

Australia posted 391 in the first innings on the back of fifties from Usman Khawaja, Alex Carey and Cameron Green. In reply, Pakistan were cruising along with 248/3 before a stunning collapse that saw them lose the last seven wickets for 20 runs.

The dream run of Usman Khawaja, who was adjudged the Player of the series, continued as he scored his century on the tour, soon after which Australia declared, setting Pakistan a target of 351.

Pakistan started brightly but Australia took command of the game on the final day, winning the match by 115 runs.

The win solidifies Australia's place at the top of the ICC World Test Championship while Pakistan slipped from second to fourth after the loss.

After surviving 27 overs in the final session before stumps on Day 4, Pakistan batters started at 73 for 0, requiring another 278 runs for a victory in the series decider. Pakistan would have wanted the openers to extend their opening partnership but were Pakistan dealt a major blow when Sahfique edged one to the gloves of the wicketkeeper. Cameron Green kept bowling in the channel outside off, which frustrated the batters, particularly Shafique, who eventually edged one to end his gritty innings.

Nathan Lyon troubled the batters on the final-day pitch but Azhar Ali and Imam were rock-solid. Azhar appeared settled at the crease when he smashed two boundaries off Starc, one of which was a confidence-boosting cover drive.

However, Lyon with his tight bowling got the much-needed breakthrough for Australia when Azhar attempted to play a sweep shot to an outside-off delivery and the ball went straight to slips after hitting his pads for 17.

Two wickets in the first session brought Australia back on track as Pakistan went for lunch on 136 for 2 with Imam and Babar Azam at the crease.

Australia deployed spinners straightaway after lunch and the decision paid immediate dividends. Lyon, in his second ball after lunch, sent the set batter Imam back to the pavilion on 70. Lyon landed the ball in the rough outside leg stump, and Imam nicked it onto his pad and straight into the hands of the silly point.

Skipper Cummins then got in on the act, dismissing Fawad Alam leg before wicket for 11. Rizwan followed Alam to the pavilion soon for a duck, as Cummins struck again with brilliant inswinging delivery that hit the toe before hitting his bat. With only one review left, Rizwan decided not to review it, but as it turned out, the decision would have been overturned as the impact was outside off stump.

Sajid survived a few close calls, and Babar, after a rash shot against Lyon, was lucky to have been dropped by Head at deep mid-wicket. Pakistan went into with at 190/5.

Resuming the final session of the series, Babar Azam completed his half-century but edged one to the slips, thus shattering Pakistan’s hope of saving the historic test and series. Lyon’s disciplined bowling paid off as he got the edge of Babar’s bat, with Smith completing a brilliant low catch at slips. In the very next over, Sajid Khan flicked a full-length delivery from Starc straight into the hands of Khawaja at mid-wicket.

Hasan Ali, instead of defending, decided to take the attack to Lyon, hitting him for a six and a four before he was bowled trying to play another big shot. The off-spinner clinched his five-for with the wicket of Shaheen Afridi, who holed out in the deep playing the slog sweep.

Fittingly, skipper Cummins claimed the last wicket as Australia bowled out Pakistan on 235 to win the final Test by 115 runs and clinch the series 1-0.

Tbh every pakistan agrees that Pakistan deserved to lose this series because of the ultra defensive nature taken by Ramiz Raja , pcb overall, babar Azam and team management. I can excuse Abdullah Shafique as he is very inexperienced but there is no excuse for the rest of the batsmen
 
I dont understand why Ramiz Raja has to interfere in cricketing matters. He seems to have styled himself as the public face of the PCB regarding all issues.

His responsibility is to manage the business side of cricket, negotiating tours, making sure administrative matters are handled. Of course the chairman has to have a say in the big decisions like succession of captains etc, but he doesnt need to have a say in the pitches that are prepared for the series - leave that to capable people and dont micromanage
 
Australia deserved to win.I am not upset.Pakistan team lacks a genuine all rounder.Need to find someone like Australia’s Green.The spin department was not up to scratch.A few changes can strengthen the team.The pitches need to be more sporting.Pakistan cricket was in wilderness for more than a decade.The future looks good for Pakistan cricket,
 
Australia deserved to win it. If it was us, we wouldn't have drawn like they did. We had no intention to chase at any point., If there was intention, we should have kept the run rate around 3.5. Not upset because we lost, upset because we lost while trying not to lose. If we would've tried to be aggressive and even lose by 250, it wouldn't be an issue
 
Pakistan paid the price for yet another batting collapse in the first innings after being in a comfortable position (170/1 >>> 268). That handed the initiative back to Australia. In Karachi they batted for almost two days (171.4 overs) which was a fabulous effort but miracles don’t happen every time. Batting in the 4th innings or on a 5th day pitch is always tricky because of the worn out pitch (low bounce, sharp turn from cracks or roughness in the surface). Hence not many sides have successfully chased down 300 plus in the 4th innings of a test in history. Australia showed positive intent to win. Cummins deserves praise for his bold decision declaring with a lead of 350. Many defensive captains would have delayed the declaration.

What was the decision he made that hurt the team?
 
1992 victory WILL hurt us for ever; looks like mafia operating who eats on $$ generated from ICC and Indian market. NoN wonder why every ex cricketer wants to be in PCB to loot the cricketing $$ generated by our neighbors (India)

Talent is there in Pakistan (Abdulla Shafiq is recent example, where he showed his temperament). But all our PCB does is create unnecessary futile projects (like drop in pitch), work like an old school contractor that there is lot of work and we need more $$ (without showing any decent progress); and rhyme same theme of rebuilding the team, by first destroying it and then try to mould it on personal preferences

No matter who comes as PCB chairman ; culture is same.. Only when ICC becomes strict and ask to do the audit of every penny spent by PCB then only Pakistan cricket will improve otherwise no chance... Till then just be happy by defeating better sides once in few years
