Australia tour of New Zealand (2025) - 3 T20Is

Marsh helps Australia to blow away New Zealand in the first T20I

After Tim Robinson's superb century helped New Zealand recover from a tough start, captain Mitchell Marsh's powerful hitting led Australia to a dominant victory in the first T20I of the Chappell-Hadlee series.

New Zealand's innings began poorly, with Ben Dwarshuis taking two wickets in the second over, but Robinson, who was a last-minute replacement for the injured Rachin Ravindra, steadied the ship. He scored a magnificent century off just 65 balls, despite being dropped five times by the Australian fielders. However, New Zealand struggled to accelerate in the second half of their innings.

In response, Australia's chase was anchored by an aggressive 67-run opening partnership between Marsh and Travis Head. This strong start put them in a commanding position, and despite missing key players like Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell, the outcome was never in doubt. Marsh himself fell just 15 runs short of a century, but he had already done enough to secure the win.

Ultimately, Australia's impressive chase overpowered New Zealand, making it only the second time a team batting second has won a T20I at that venue.

New Zealand have won the toss and decided to bowl first in the second T20I.

New Zealand Playing XI
: Tim Seifert, Devon Conway, Tim Robinson, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, Jimmy Neesham, Matt Henry, Ben Sears, Ish Sodhi, Jacob Duffy

Australia Playing XI: Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Matt Short, Tim David, Alex Carey, Marcus Stoinis, Mitch Owen, Xavier Bartlett, Sean Abbott, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

START OF PLAY HAS BEEN DELAYED DUE THE RAIN

It's amazing how NZ are persisting with Conway despite his 32/120 stats over the last 4 years.

He's not better than Rizwan in this format with bat in hand. And unlike Rizwan, he is a specialist batsman .

NZ are producing far better players than this guy and KW . If they select these two and get hammered yet again at the World T20, no excuses about IPL, lack of warmups, lack of time for squad gelling etc. should be entertained.

I'm worried about aus bowling talent. Why aren't we producing High quality bowlers anymore?

New Zealand should make roofs over their stadiums as most matches are abandoned due to rain. They can host international teams in Tasmania or other Aussie grounds.

And he has flopped yet again

New Zealand finished their innings at 156/9. Australia shouldn't have much trouble chasing this down.

When it comes to destructive hitting, Mitch one of the most brutal batsmen

@Rana If you search for my comments 2.5 years back I said Mitch Marsh > Babar and the guilty party laughed at me.

Who's laughing now? 🤔

NZC need to seriously consider how they are going about it in T20 cricket.

Williamson, Conway and Bracewell are not good enough to play in Top 7 in T20 cricket.

I bet you it was guys like @gazza619 @Ahmed216 @Caved12 @heddie19 @hks222 @Raja Ishtiaq that said Babar>> Marsh

These clowns don’t understand cricket at all :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
@heddie19 100%

@Caved12 don't remember tbh

@Raja Ishtiaq Yes but not to me directly, he's never personally attacked me.

@Ahmed216 No, he didn't say it

@gazza619 Yes 🤣🤣🤣, infact he was mentioning the century no and list.

@hks222 No clue who he is.

Don't forget @Devadwal who despite hating PK for some reason is hell bent on proving that rizzu is > Inglis and Carey and Babar is > So called aussie tullas.

Then theirs @daytrader who claimed Babar is visually better or idrk what he meant

Then their were a few others who i don't really remember now.

But the claim was Marsh is a FTB and a NZ basher. I don't think people understand how difficult it is to be a FTB and a single sena side basher.

If babar fit the bill he wouldn't be attacked as much

Mitch Marsh Apex T20 opener

Zimbu is nowhere!
I put Marsh > Babar as soon as I saw him in 2021.

Cameron Green is another who is pretty much Marsh's long term successor and is significantly > Babar.

And while JFM, Owen and Konstas are young their ceiling is just higher then Babar.

Excluding konstas who is relying on visual cues and he's too young to be jacked atm

The rest are all muscle houses with solid technique and temperament.

You saw him only in 2021? I thought he was there since 2015. I remember seeing interview of him and Cummins during 2015 WC. They were new and upcoming then. Aus system is great at knowing which players will be cut out for International Cricket.
