Australia tour of New Zealand (2025) - 3 T20Is

Marsh helps Australia to blow away New Zealand in the first T20I

After Tim Robinson's superb century helped New Zealand recover from a tough start, captain Mitchell Marsh's powerful hitting led Australia to a dominant victory in the first T20I of the Chappell-Hadlee series.

New Zealand's innings began poorly, with Ben Dwarshuis taking two wickets in the second over, but Robinson, who was a last-minute replacement for the injured Rachin Ravindra, steadied the ship. He scored a magnificent century off just 65 balls, despite being dropped five times by the Australian fielders. However, New Zealand struggled to accelerate in the second half of their innings.

In response, Australia's chase was anchored by an aggressive 67-run opening partnership between Marsh and Travis Head. This strong start put them in a commanding position, and despite missing key players like Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell, the outcome was never in doubt. Marsh himself fell just 15 runs short of a century, but he had already done enough to secure the win.

Ultimately, Australia's impressive chase overpowered New Zealand, making it only the second time a team batting second has won a T20I at that venue.

New Zealand have won the toss and decided to bowl first in the second T20I.

It's amazing how NZ are persisting with Conway despite his 32/120 stats over the last 4 years.

He's not better than Rizwan in this format with bat in hand. And unlike Rizwan, he is a specialist batsman .

NZ are producing far better players than this guy and KW . If they select these two and get hammered yet again at the World T20, no excuses about IPL, lack of warmups, lack of time for squad gelling etc. should be entertained.
