Can England salvage anything from this tour or are Australia going to overwhelm them again?

Full house at MCG, boxing day, one of the major sporting occasions of the year.

Weather looks a but up and down from my house, ball will do a bit I reckon.

This has been sold out for a long time, a few people won't go now as it is a dead rubber but they should have 80000 people there today.

I hope England win the toss and bat first. It might be intresting match then

Given the uncertainty all around over whether to bat or bowl first, funnily enough Cook today will probably feel relieved to have lost the toss. At least that's one less decision that he could have otherwise been judged on. This looks like one of those days where a team could get 300/4 or 170 all out.

Not convinced bowling first is the right move, reckon we are getting ahead of ourselves. But lets see how it goes.

Relies on England still hurting and still working out a batting order which is pretty new. We could click today at last but obviously given the events of the season so far I am not confident at all.

Cook needs to survive the new ball and show some aggression.

Have a feeling KP will come out all guns blazing today.

If you compare man for man top to bottom, there isn't much between the 2 sides. Of course the results on pitch are what matters.

Gotta love the Aussies. Elder of the Wurundjeri tribe is giving a blessing and the camera cuts to a big fat Aussie in the crowd laughing and chomping down a meat pie.

We are actually fielding quite an English team for once. Long may this continue. lol

Clark wins four tosses out of four? Come on. Cook is worse as the toss even than Nasser!

And Clarke sticks ENG in???????? You couldn't make it up!

At least Draco is fit, but they should have got in Finn for trundling Bres.

Likely that might have been a big fat Pom seeing as a few hundred thousand have moved out here as economic refugees. The Elder blessing is over done here, it has lost all impact, they do it for everything and there is about four of Wurundjeri actually in existence.

MJ's first ball right on the spot, a hint of away swing to the left hander Cook

2nd ball, Cook off the mark with a couple on the leg side. Will feel much better for it. Another 2 of the 3rd.

Captain Cook looking good. I've got a good feeling, sticking us in could backfire on pup.

Rhino bowling too wide to Cranberry, needs to make him play.

Get them out blow 150 or this will be the most boring day.

I do not understand why neither Finn nor Rankin have not yet been picked. What's the crowd like? heard a record 90,000 will be coming and that's what I'm talking about.

Australian bowlers pitching the ball up but there isn't much swing out there, could be long long day for them.

Clarke probably already regretting his decision.

Carberry dropped in the slips. Miscommunication.

Carberry with boundary straight down the ground. Will make him feel much better.

Eng move to 28-0

No silly shots and we can make partnerships here.

Lyon looks the most dangerous bowler here, outside of Harris.

Some application from England and it can be a good day here.

Fantastic bowling by harris. Why he has played so little matches with that age and average?

Carberry looking to be more attacking now.

Correct approach. No point being defensive, series already lost.

Come on Carbs, head down bat long, I'm hoping for a ton.

England 40-0

12.2 overs

Cook 21
Carberry 18

Must be a reason, probably not bowling well enough in the nets, they did poorly in the practice games. Finn apparently has struggled since the coaches have remodeled his Acton and run up

Dont know the exact count but never seen anything like this before. Its COMPLETELY jam packed !

England 71-1 at lunch.

Some hairy moments but England would be the happier of the 2 teams.

Cook give it away after getting a start.

Great to be at home in Sydney for the holidays and watching the cricket! They had Hugh Jackman on the Cricket Show during the lunch break, he's still a true blue Ozzie despite all those years in Hollywood. He was batting against Warney in the nets yesterday and got clocked in the balls lol.

Excellent crowd! that's how Cricket should be.

As I said before, Test cricket is quite healthy in Australia - as long as we're playing England or South Africa or India. Drops off a little bit more for the lower profile teams but the Boxing Day Test is the biggest cricketing event in the world IMO in terms of the crowd, because it's part and parcel of Christmas and New Year celebrations in Australia. And despite our team being ranked No.5!

The challenge is for other countries to try and do the same, to try and ritualise some of their Tests so that it becomes part of the summer/whatever celebration in that particular country.

England seems to be playing without any pressure in this game so it proves that their inability to deal with the pressure on this tour was the main factor

That Watto delivery swung late. Can't blame Carberry there. Most batsmen would have left that.

Watson was bowling a good line/length and getting the ball to swing. Dunno why Clarke didn't continue with him.

Joe root reminds me of azhar Ali. All he does is block block leave leave, has no shots in his armory. He is not going to trouble or put pressure on any opposition side.

England's one dimensional tuk tuk approach is not helping them at all, it is playing into Australia's hands and allows their bowler's to settle into a nice rhythm

Except they get bigger crowds at the AFL grand final and the Melbourne cup.

Joe Root is not a number 3 Test batsman, wonder how long it will take England to work that out.

Even KP doing a lot tuk tuk here…
I hope he scores big on boxing day as I am wake up just for his batting, after all he is gold!

That's why I said cricketing event. Nothing beats aerial ping pong crowds in OZ

Clarke could have a good reason for bowling first, if it is expected they will lose some of day 4 to rain it will mean that he wont have to declare in the second innings.

Since Carberry's dismissal, England have added 12 runs in 12 overs. They're in danger of being sucked into the quicksand again
