Same story with Eng. Get into a zone where you forget to score for a long time and go no where.

Aus is bowing well but if you play this surviving game always then you are going to get one ball with your name.

Coulter Nile catches and carries it over the rope

Inexperience from Coulter Nile. Didn't know how close he was to the rope

Clarke could have a good reason for bowling first, if it is expected they will lose some of day 4 to rain it will mean that he wont have to declare in the second innings.

If Clarke can predict the weather in Melbourne, he is in the wrong job.

Will England manage to get to 200 by the end if the day is the biggest question.

Day 1 of the heroic rearguard going well so far

I think that's more people in one day that in the entire first Test between SA and India

Vicious throat ball from Jonno goes up in the air but falls safe of Harris

Another poor day for England, don't think they have won a single days play really all through the series.

I feel for the 91000 people who had to watch that turgid, spineless and boring day's worth of batting by the English. Six wickets down for 200 odd that's not bad.

Jesus that was hard to watch. I hope Peterson plays his natural innings tomorrow. They are six wickets down so there's no need to block. Somebody actually has to score before they're bowled.

The last 2 wickets have clearly made it Australia's day. They need to get rid of the tail quickly in the morning and just bat England out of the match

Good pitch. Bit of pace and seam movement, bit of bounce, bit of spin - but equally a batsman who applies himself can get a score.

KP did well. Haters gonna hate but he played a sensible and switched-on Test innings today to keep his team in the game.

Lots of criticism as expected, but it's a slow outfield. Will be able to tell what a good score is when Australia bat.

That would be a reasonable comment if your team didn't score at a snail's pace even at the WACA.

You have to score runs in Test cricket, otherwise you go nowhere. At the start we were back on our heels because Cook and Carby were looking to score.

Enjoyed Johnno's spell at the end. Vintage viewing.

4th Test in India we had a Day 1 like this and copped some flak, but as the game went on it was put into context and we did very well in the game. So I'm reserving judgment on this one.

That was a ridiculous pitch not conducive for bowling nor batting, this isn't anything like that

James , not much in the pitch in last 2 sessions . rr & the 6 wickets was a substandard performance imo .

I've been as critical about our cricket in the last month as anybody else. I just have a slightly different feeling about this one. Difficult to conclude much from that day - Day 2 will be more explicit.

Blimey, these Aussies quicks bowl well! These three are as good as Lillee-Lawson-Alderman in the early eighties. They are so accurate and have a plan for every ENG batter, even Bairstow.

The pitch is a bit slow and not conducive to shot-play. If ENG can bowl tight then they may throttle some of the less good AUS batters. And Monty can bowl on a last-day pitch, hopefully.

Nice to see Kapes fighting it out. He has been lucky coming in after Strausser, Chef and Leon in the past but now he is having to plan more conservatively. Have to go quicker tomorrow if he wants his ton as I can see the tail getting blown away again.

If england can get it to around 300 i think they are in business, we tend to throw away wickets trying to force things on these sort of pitches, not that i think england found the right tempo i just think we tend to go too far the other way on these tracks.

280 is the minimum required amount. Our bowlers might do something.

Bresnan should bowl well tomorrow. Anderson maybe but he looks shot

James, you been hinting at a unexpected fightback from visitors . Do you believe they ie the visitors can bundle out hosts for 300 or under ?
