Australia are level on points with England in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League standings and will hope to win the series and top the table when they face India in the second ODI.

Overview
Australia vs India, 2nd ODI
Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney
Sunday, 29 November, 02.40pm local time, 03.40am GMT

Australia made their highest-ever total against India in ODIs in the first match and will be buoyed by the performances of their key players. David Warner, Aaron Finch, Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell appeared to be in top nick while Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa were in equally good form with the ball.

They might have a forced change on Sunday with Marcus Stoinis suffering a side injury. The all-rounder left the field two balls into his seventh over and scans later in the day showed that he had a “low-grade side strain”. If Stoinis doesn’t play, Australia are likely to bring in Cameron Green, although his own injury management could mean he bowls less. The exciting Western Australia all-rounder was picked on the back of some stirring performances in domestic cricket and will hope to translate that into international cricket if an opportunity presents itself.

For India, on the other hand, Hardik Pandya’s terrific knock means that he will continue in the top six. However, he clearly stated after the game on Friday that he wouldn’t “exhaust” himself by bowling at this stage unless absolutely necessary.

India are not without concerns of their own. Their bowlers had an off day with both Navdeep Saini and Yuzvendra Chahal going for over 80 runs in their 10-over spells. Jasprit Bumrah was largely unimpressive too, leaking 73 in his 10 overs. In 2020 in ODIs, bowling over 150 balls, Bumrah has failed to take a wicket in the first 10 overs of the match.

The visitors are likely to make a few changes to their bowling outfit for the second ODI, especially with Saini complaining of a back strain ahead of the first ODI and struggling with the ball on Friday.

Three times in their last four bilateral ODI series against India, Australia have gone on to win the first ODI. But on the previous two occasions, they conceded next two games to lose the series 1-2. The hosts will hope they can change this wretched streak and win the match and series on Sunday to edge ahead of England in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League points table.

What they said:

Adam Zampa (Australia bowler): "My bowling is at the stage where I'm really confident in my game, confident in my action. I've played enough now [to know] what I need to do and how to get the best out of myself."

Hardik Pandya (India all-rounder): "I am looking at a long-term goal where I want to be 100% of my bowling capacity for the most important games. The World Cups are coming. More crucial series are coming. Whenever it is required. I am thinking as a long-term plan, not short-term where I exhaust myself and maybe have something else [injury] which is not there.”

Weather will play a huge part in this game. There is a heatwave in Sydney currently and temperatures are expected to soar 40 degrees. Aparently its the hottest day for many decades. So team that is bowling 1st will struggle a lot. The toss will be key and captain who wins the toss would definitely want to bat first.

Looking at the hot weather, I would play only 2 seamers for India and play both Kuldeep and Chahal. The pitch will get slower and will turn.

My team would be as below:

Mayank
Dhawan
Gill
Kohli
Rahul
Pandya :inti
Jadeja
Kuldeep
Chahal
Shami
Bumrah

Going to be another pumping for India. Such a crap team.

Smith is going to slam another lazy 100 against Indias "world-class" bowling attack.

This summer is a write off with India here, should have organized a better world-class team to play against us.

Going to be a 10-0 series victory for the Aussies, with Smith already well on his way to 1000 runs for the summer.

And that's just Smith, not even talking about the rest of the Aussies.

Wonder what excuses the Indians will make, they enjoyed beating us the last time and claiming how great theuy were, eveny comparing themsleves to the Windies and Aussie teams of the past.

Be interested to see if India make any changes. Kohli said young players will get a chance and that Shami and Bumrah will be managed.

They will not experiment tomorrow.
They were humiliated on Friday, they can't afford to have another one.
They were also humiliated 3-0 in NZ. They will do their best to get out of this.

Wonder which is that world class team you are referring to. I say this because in last few series (both home and away), India has upper hand on Aussies. Infact, Australia had not beaten in any series since 2016 ODI series when India toured there.

India tour of Australia 2016 (ODIs) - India lost series 4-1

Since then:

India tour of Australia 2016 (T20s) - India won series 3-0

Australia tour India (ODIs) - India won 4-1

Australia tour India (T20s) - Series tied 1-1

Australia tour India (Tests) - India won 2-1

India tour of Australia 2018 (T20s) - Series tied 1-1

India tour of Australia 2018 (ODIs) - India won 2-1

India tour of Australia 2018 (Tests) - India won 2-1

Australia tour of India 2019 (ODIs) - India won 2-1

After all these whippings you got in last few series, you are asking for a stronger team to tour Australia just after one match and just because India lost 1 game?

Interesting.

No excuses. All that tells me is that Smith is a class above everyone. Your trash bowlers would get blown away by him too.
Don't write India off so easy boy.

Indians will bring their A game in this one. Hopefully both team will field better than 1st ODI.

I got a feeling Starc might be the X factor in this one.

That makes sense but they did perform really badly on Friday so expect at least 1 change.

Loss no.2 coming up for the IPL superstars. We are already one man down since FTB Shreyas Iyer is a walking free wicket.... :)

Kohli is exhausted. He has played the most number of games across formats in the last 10 years.
Smith has played barely half of what Kohli has managed to do. Actually I don't think Smith has the ability to play across formats and be consistent without taking massive breaks in between. Starc too has to be rested alot as he picks and chooses to play for important games/series. He has had far lesser games. Peak Kohli vs peak Smith would be a sight to behold.

It's easier when you bat early during the day than late night to be honest. I wouldn't write India off so easily.

Batting first might give India a chance, I dont see Kohli winning this toss. Expecting another massive chase, hopefully this series will kill the career of that massive fraud called Shreyas Iyer

Oh yes. I have had enough of him but ab fan and some other boys are trying to convince me otherwise. I just don't see it hey. He can't play bounce at all.

You missed out the 3-2 Australia ODI series win just a few months before the 2019 WC.

Yeah the overnight temperature was the highest on record- normally gets cooler at night in Sydney a little bit, near the ocean. But temperature never dropped below 30c all night. Terrible bushfire seasons recently too, climate is changing for hotter in Oz slowly but surely.

Hehe :))

You were defending him 15 days ago when I said he is okay but nothing special and now after one game, you changed your mind? :afridi

Good luck going back to Pandey, Vijay and Jadhav.

Lets hope it is a 240 par score wicket.

Hate ODI cricket these days.

ODI is generally a much more enjoyable game if it is low scoring, I agree. T20 is a decent format for entertainment, watching a few sixes smashed.

Honestly ODI gets numbing if the bowlers are just fodder & slogged all day or milked for no risk.

Another phainta coming up for India. They can't compete with full strength Australian side in Australia. One change for Australia that mediocre Marcus useless stoinis should be dumped.

I hate this toss factor to be honest. I wish cricket had a system in place where both teams can play under the same condtions and pitches. It is what it is though.

We have an Aussie wannabe here!!

Pray that they win toss again on that flat highway, otherwise the result would have been similar to what happened to them in the world cup and india recently.

Australia won the toss and bat.

India is unchanged.

Another pump job coming up for the weak Indians.

Playing XIs:

Australia: 1 David Warner, 2 Aaron Finch (capt), 3 Steven Smith, 4 Marnus Labuschagne, 5 Moises Henriques, 6 Alex Carey (wk), 7 Glenn Maxwell, 8 Pat Cummins, 9 Mitchell Starc, 10 Adam Zampa, 11 Josh Hazlewood.

India: 1 Shikhar Dhawan, 2 Mayank Agarwal, 3 Virat Kohli (capt), 4 Shreyas Iyer, 5 KL Rahul (wk), 6 Hardik Pandya, 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 Navdeep Saini, 9 Mohammed Shami, 10 Jasprit Bumrah, 11 Yuzvendra Chahal.

Kohli has got to be the worst captain ever at winning tosses.

Anyways, I hope law of averages work and he wins a few in the all important tests. :)

He's gone but the only allrounder they have in the squad to replace him is Moses Henriques, who is equally useless. Allrounder stocks in Oz are at an all time low- Cameron Green is our only hope but he's just barely into comeback in red ball cricket from injury. He doesn't seem as suited to white ball yet.

Is kohli a panauti? Never wins toss when it matters the most

It's a Jamodi lol. But yeah I get your point. Lost almost all tosses in SAF and Eng tests and the world cup semi.

He won one in an icc final but....:(

What a toss looser..It's so annoying giving toss excuses but ultimately it does make a difference if the game is in away conditions.

Yeah, it's just a jamodi but it's really important match to stay alive in this series. He has also lost both toss in the test series in newzealand aswell

Does Kohli even win tosses at least in away games? He loses way too many in away tests as well...

Batting first might give India a chance, I dont see Kohli winning this toss. Expecting another massive chase, hopefully this series will kill the career of that massive fraud called Shreyas Iyer

My prediction off to a flying start, as expected IPL heroes chasing. And Shreyas Iyer playing, so essentially 1 batsmen down already... :)

Interesting.

Stop lying. Australia won the 2019 series 3-2 after being 2-0 down. That was without Smith and Warner as well.

Aussies opener looking to play themselves in here , not taking extravagant chances here

Can someone explain why there is so much hate for Iyer? I haven’t followed his career much. I know he has weaknesses against the short ball but surely he can improve? He also did well in IPL for DC didn’t he?

I can't understand it as well. He has done really well so far, and 1 failure makes him an FTB.

India literally took this jersey by heart. Bowling exactly like we did in 92 WC :yk

Okay I may have missed that but even if we take that 3-2 ODI series win, the point remains India had upper hand in last few years when these 2 teams played.

He is bowling to Warner. Remember he smashed 300+ runs against your blokes? :))
No worries he will do the same against this world class shooperstar attack.LOL
This saini guy averages 65 with economy of 6.6 in 6 matches. He has got so much potential.LOL

This one is going to be relatively low scoring game compared to first ODI - surely neither of the sides can field that poor today.

The difference is that while Warner has already scored 300+ against you, you assume that will do the same against us :))

Saini getting tonked expectedly. But captain clueless doesn't learn anything.

We would chase min 350 unless Chahal does something. As I said in my 2nd post on this thread, its a pitch which will take turn and India should have played with 3 spinners.

Be interested to see if India make any changes. Kohli said young players will get a chance and that Shami and Bumrah will be managed.

Said it before india don't have resources to rest Sami Bumrah..... The bench is just not worthy

Why the hell Shami was replaced by Saini though? He was bowling perfectly alright.

Trust Kohli to tinker even with whatever is working perfectly.

If Aussies indeed posts 350+, this time margin will be bigger than last game.

If we don't take a wicket soon, we may be chasing another 350+ total.

Point 2 be noted ......u guys don't have the rookies 2 field against Aussies in Aussies.......Mavi Avesh and Nagarkoti are light years behind Saheen Naseem .....and now we have sahanawaz dhani .....along with Akif Hasnain .....and Rauf dilbar in t20s.

Fifty up for Australia , a solid start by openers, India need to make a breakthrough here

This dark blue orange jersey is bad omen for parosis ..
Huh....wo england wala WC match yaad aa raha hai

If Kuldeep could be benched on the basis of his WC exploits why can't Chahal? Is it because he is Kohli's teammate at RCB?

Chahal in good form since IPL tbh......but Aussies have probably figure him out

This is going to be a KO of early Tyson proportions. Huge total Oz, 375+, India rolled for <300
