Aussies are paying here for making a flat pitch , they should have opted for faster and bouncier one.

You make it sound like preparing a bouncy wicket is easy. It really goes to show how little people understand about pitch preparation. You can't just put a trampoline under the soil and expect it to bounce. A lot of it is to do with the soil composition, atmospheric conditions and how the pitch responds to weather. You can leave grass on the wicket to induce some seam movement but you're not going to get a bouncy wicket just because you want to.

Then get seam movement , Home conditions should be exploited.

If we get draws in Australia , it is disappointing. Australia / England / SA are places known for bowlers dominating and results.

This is Adelaide. This is a typical wicket for Adelaide.

Oh damn. When are we going to see his daddy hundreds ?

Lyon is bowling a great line and length here. Spinning it from rough and also getting bounce.

Criminal to get lucky after being set so nicely but Lyon looked like getting a wicket there. Whatever happened to our finger spinners.

They don't get picked.

Apparently they don't have good STATS in the few matches they played in Australia several years back.

So we keep trying out others.

If you're referring to Ashwin , yeah I heard the commentators saying he won't get better until he plays more matches overseas. Fair point but he's never convinced anyone of his ability either.

Need a conventional test spin bowler who doesn't concentrate too much on variety.

Loose ball from Lyon , Rahane of the mark. Need to guard getting out against the run of play.

You think Ashwin would have done well here?

I am saying he must be given chances to mature. He should be given a scare to not take his place for granted but he is our best bet for the future. He did show a marked improvement in England. If a genuinely better spinner comes along, then its a different case.

Ashwin doesn't concentrate on variety in test matches.

Last time he did was in England home series. After that, he hasn't. Even his carrom balls are super rare after that series.

I meant his ODI bowling is diminishing his test skills. Regardless , we could seriously use an off spinner on this pitch.

He took 3 wickets in 2 Tests there.Hardly good. And last match pitch was helping a bit

Overall even Jadeja has done better with ball overseas.

He should play as 5th bowler though but I don't expect wickets from him

Bro, don't you this that's a bit misleading?

He took 3 wickets in 2 innings.

England batted for only 2 innings in that test match.

Innings 1 - He bowled tight, created a bit of chances but couldn't get a wicket. 14 overs. Barring that 6 from Ian Bell he was really good.

Innings 2 - He took 3 wickets.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/england-v-india-2014/engine/match/667719.html

Avg of 35.

Jaddu got to play in Durban spin track while Ashwin got to play in Joberg (he was not bowling well at all so no excuses there).

In England, Ashwin clearly looked a much much better test bowler than Jaddu.

And Jaddu got a go at England in that Lord's final day pitch where it was genuinely spinning.

Even if you take out Durban still he has a better average away than Ashwin. At Lords he created chances in 2nd innings but keeper and slips were standing way behind for dome reason so missed it

Even the last match that Ashwin played he was getting turn where he picked 3

Yeah that's one innings only.hardly anything to go on.

I do want him as 5th bowler but he's not shown enough to be part of 4 bowler attack. No spinner has

Lyon should bowl couple of overs coming around the wicket from the wide mark line.

That's cos he played 3 tests in Australia where we got owned badly (in Perth Vinayji played).

Our team was completely outplayed. Pacers did nothing. Batsmen scored nothing.

Still took a bunch of wickets but average went for cleaners.

Jaddu played in an Indian team which competed overseas (against SA, NZ and even England...2 out of the 3 tests in England where we didn't compete, Jaddu didn't play).

General opinion here and elsewhere after the test series was that Ashwin did better than Jaddu in England (in tests). ODIs are different.

Jadeja is not a test bowler outside of India.

yes hate it when people go purely on stats. Many considered Jadeja a better bowler than Ashwin after Durban :)))

220/3. This is kinda how last series began. Then the horrible slide. Dravid never stopped getting bowled.

The very fact we compare Ashwin to jadeja only highlights our lack of spin options and how we have taken that for granted.

Kohli battling it out like a man of his nerve should :D awesome!
Also everyone stuck it out so far.. Loving it :) We should draw this game and head to the next one 0-0

Adelaide has been flat for 100 years mate. Nothing to do with how it was prepared. We don't tailor pitches.

Bit puzzled by Aus's declaration overnight I have to say. Could have kept India out on the field for a bit longer and slogged another 100 or so runs. Either that or should have declared early on yesterday under overcast conditions. It's an absolute road out there.

Granted flat pitch but credit to top order for showing application.

Considering the reputation with which they arrived on Aussie shored, they thought declaring and having a go at us is essential for winning the match.

Makes sense.

Not even the most optimistic Indian would have predicted this score at this run rate.

Would have been surprised if India didn't pile on the runs here especially in the 1st innings tbh. The wicket is not just flat but hardly any pace or bounce for the quicks. Things may well get interesting in the last couple of days tho. There's decent spin and bounce for the spinners even now.

So how is the Great Peter Siddle bowling? Is he trundleriffic again?

Might need to change my avatar.

Good batting from the young Indians but they need to go on and make big hundreds like ours did. All conditions for batting from this day onwards in this series are going to be harder than today.

India have responded well. They should get around 400-odd in their first innings unless OZ can induce a collapse.

Tried bouncing out this spell. Almost got a wicket but still Indians able to ride the bounce mostly due to lack of pace.
