Partnership closing in on 150. Match-winning one quite possibly.

Two things.

That was Dhoni. If Virat Kohli is batting this time, he wont' think defensive. Honestly virat chases 300 for fun in 50 overs he won't go for 100 in 20?

Secondly, the chance to go 1-0 up in the series is too much of an appeal to pass down on.

5th day pitch against a quality bowling attack and smashing Lankan trundlers on highways cannot be compared. I think most of us Indians will be happy to grab the psych advantage of not losing wickets and drawing the match. Win is a bonus.

That's Tea. India need 159 to win. This is gonna be a cracker!

Pretty sporting declaration by Clarke.

I wonder if he will start regretting it some point if India do try to chase it and come awfully close.

What an outstanding performance so far. One session to go, the longer these two last the faster Aussie believe evaporate #BleedBlue #resistent

The wicket is playing really well. Hasn't done much at all really except for the odd one here and there. Ballsy declaration by Clarke. I don't think any other cap'n would have set this sort of target tbh.

If India gets the equation down to about 90 in the last 15 with say 3 down and kohli still there then I reckon we should go for it all guns blazing.

If they don't lose a wicket this session, you'd reckon only one team would be able to win from there.

Nope, Aus can win as well. Look at the Indian tail. If Aus can get 2 wickets suddenly they will be right back in the game.

Next one is at brisbane and we have to be honest we won't survive 4 days over there so might as well go for this one.Still confusing what their approach is chase or draw?

They have found reverse through the air though and the pressure of chasing a big total is always there.

Yep. Only then should we even attempt a chase. Otherwise they should just look to punish the bad balls and Lyon.

if india wants to chase this down virat has to score 150 plus but the problem is that he gets out after scoring 100

Frustrating and even scaring Australia a bit. I like this approach. These two have batted beautifully here. Its not very clear as to whether they are going for the chase or not and Aussies have no clue either.

That's the best approach even after tea. Indians should decide in the last one hour based on wickets in hands and who is playing at that time.

Pretty sure India won't be going for the draw now. Kohli will go for it. Tailor-made for a Kohli special this one.

No, he will say well done India and move on. Clarke's approach make me watch most of Aus games.

He was once criticized heavily by posters for declaring in India with 9 wickets down to get few overs at Indian top order. I still liked his logic of declaration at that time even though it didn't produce the desired result for Aus.

Just keep Dhoni out of the dressing room this tea session.

159 to get from 37 overs is simple, especially with Rahane, Rohit and Saha to come.

Shouldn't chicken out like SA did at Joburg versus us last year.

Serves Australia right for not getting an additional 50 runs yesterday by batting too slowly - Rogers and especially Watson.

similar to the first test in NZ this year,India were set to chase 407 and were 266/2 or something and then collapsed

virat and vijay should carry on like this for another 9-10 overs like 30 odd and if they manage to stay there they should go for the win

Current Run Rate - 3.36

Required Run Rate - 4.29

Runs Required - 159

Overs Remaining - 37

Wickets in hand - 8

Correct approach - Keep playing risk free at current RR (3.36) and get 85 Runs from first 25 overs, that will leave India with 74 runs to chase from 72 balls. Advantage India - Rohit and Rahane yet to bat.

Clarke might be out of the series looking at that footage. Really feel for the guy. Can't seem to catch a break.

Funnily enough, Pakistan would have batted at 2 runs per over and by now win would have been out of equation :)))

I think posters are underestimating how hard it is to successfully chase 360 runs on 4th inning. You 1-2 wickets and suddenly you have to decide if you want to save the test or still go for a win. There is a good reason why only handful times 350+ has been chased in test in entire history.

Not saying that it's impossible but it's mighty hard thing to do.

Exactly. I hope the posters over here understand the gravity behind chasing 363, yes 363 on 5th day turning pitch.

"Someone on feedback mentioned the tied Test of 86 and our own Dan Brettig has picked out the report, which mentions India needed 158 off 30 overs with eight wickets in hand. It's 159 off 37 here with eight wickets in hand again!"

Well all I know is Kohli shouldn't chicken out and I hope and believe he won't.

We need thrilling chases in cricket as much as fighting it out draws.

I realize it's a 5th day pitch and it's incredibly hard to chase 360 on 5th day pitch, but if one gets close enough to the target and dares not try for risk of losing , he gains nothing .

1. He doesn't know if he would have succeeded or not.
2. He fears failure all his life.

I would like Kohli to be pragmatic and see in last hour or so. If India are still strong , go for it.

Good tactics by India they aren't obviously going for the win nor are they obviously going for a draw. Since we don't know it means we have half attack and half defend.

Kohli won't chicken out. That much I'm sure of. This may well be the making of Kohli the Test batsman. Tailor-made for him.

Umpires seem to be be really kind to the Indians here.
If it wasn't for the umpires India would be fighting to save this match let alone thinking of a win.

If it wasn't for umpires, India would have got Aussies all-out for 250 in second innings.

Crucial passage of play this. If they hit Lyon out of the attack Aus are done for pretty much.
