What's new

Australia v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Melbourne | Dec 26-30, 2016 | Day 1

Didn't notice Misbah' average has come down to 46 level. I think, it's now a trade off for YK - 10K+ or 50+. Inzi missed both - failed to cross Javed & I am sure, he wasn't aware that he was going to miss 50 average for that rash slog ......

Couple of nice shots from Younis but looked very shaky. Tight bowling from Aussies.

Told ya. FTB fails once again. There's enough nibble off the seam that's been troubling him. Survived a couple of close calls earlier. It was only a matter of time.

He is not watching the ball more than anything else. Top order doesn't leave that big gap between bat-pad. LBW, I could have understood that beaten by pace or movement, but this is clear lack of eye sight & slower reflex.

When you fall that far across, you're bound to leave a gap. All of his movements are forced, none of them are instinctive which can be relied on consistently and it's been the case throughout his career. He's pretended to have a technique all his life when in fact he's a greatly flawed batsman who's lucky to have cashed in on flat tracks.

Forget your switch hits or reverse swinging yorkers, there is no finer sight in cricket than the Misbah Surprise Six™

:salute :salute :salute :salute :salute :salute

Inzi averages 50+, no reason an FC game should count in international average.

He is not the first one with that - Viv's technique wasn't tight, Smith is playing with his hand-eye more than anything. With same technique, 33 years old YK could have scored lot, but at 43, it's over for him.

YK scored 15 runs more than I expected from him today, so well played UAE Khan.

Not comparable. Viv was a lot more side-on and had natural instinctive foot movement and otherworldly hand-eye. Smith shuffles across but his torso doesn't fall forward like Younis. He remains balanced and backs his hand-eye to negotiate anything on the stumps while eliminating the 4th stump channel which makes it easier to leave balls.

Younis does not deserve to play next test

Neither does Misbah.

It was probably harmful that Younis scored that scratchy 65 at Brisbane - even Mickey Arthur acknowledged that he was losing faith. He should have been dropped for this Test.

Firstly, I'm pretty safe, and secondly, I never said that. :)

But boss, this is the kind of pitch on which Umar Akmal would have made 85 (89) and Salman Butt would have made 110 (205).

We are watching players with skills suited for Asian conditions scratch around in prefect batting conditions, which just require a young eye and young reflexes.

I still think this is a 500+ pitch.

And I still think Pakistan will score less than 300, after which Australia will score well over 400.

I have seen many such predictions - ok, let do it now. In this match, 5 players are batting or still to bat - Misbah, Asad, Sarfu, Smith & Warner - put the scores that each of them are going to make in 1st innings. If you are within 10 runs either side, for 3 of the 5, I'll take your prediction for Umar & Butt.

As those of us familiar with Australian conditions warned, you are getting NOTHING out of your Numbers 4 and 5 batsmen.

It's terrible selection to take two men in their forties to Australia.

Scoring at less than 3 an over in Australia

Pakistan rightfully paying for such a silly approach.

Shafiq please dont get out for a duck like you usually do after a big score

Inzi averages below 50 for his 0 & 1 in a Test match that he was selected to represent world XI.

Yeah and these ROW vs Asia or World XI games etc... don't count in averages, they are exhibition matches. What next? Count averages in charity matches? Ridiculous.

Misbah was never going to get runs in Australia. Low hands on these bouncy pitches and the fact that he can only score against spin

The old guys might be done but not so sure about the young guys either. Sami Aslam and Babar have low scores this series.

Pakistan will give Bird a five-fer today. Making nobodies into somebodies is Pakistan's speciality

So the geriatric brigade is back in the pavilion

Asad Trying his level best to continue his tradition of Duck after a big innings !!

I am not sure if you are serious or trolling - that match was registered as a Test match before the start & every player carriers stats of that match in their career. Irony is that Inzi & PAK made the biggest hue & cry, when he wasn't selected 1st time for world XI.

Nothing to worry our best bat comes in at number nine :amir

Typical Pakistan, capitulating after a good performance.

They can't win with some of you lot. If they retired before the Australian tour they'd be pilloried for being cowards and throwing the youngsters in at the deep end.

I would have thrown a party had both of them left us alone before this tour, I have seen enough of both.

Players' international careers are for a country in every sport. There is no sense into counting glorified exhibition matches in averages.

But apparently Azhar was a bad investment and he can only score runs in the UAE. Two back to back fifties now. InshaAllah hundred to come!

This is what happens if you go at less than 3 rpo. You are bound to get a good ball sooner or later, better to make hay while the sun shines.

If you want to teach a kid how not to bat in a test, show him Sami Aslam's pathetic gutless innings.

I have started a thread on this, but in the four Tests Down Under so far:

Younis Khan averages 14.57
Misbah averages 12.80

When your numbers 4 and 5 are scoring less runs than Mohammad Amir and are looking less secure at the crease than Yasir Shah, you know that the old war horses should have been forcibly retired if they didn't have the sense to do it themselves.

It's embarrassing, it's shameful, and it's destroying their legacies.
