What's new

Australia v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Melbourne | Dec 26-30, 2016 | Day 5

we need 30 overs to survive this apparently. 90 deficit.

Either way we have apparently lost this, so the best way is to try to gun this down. Defending will make us lose this by a much much bigger margin !!

I remember India losing 4 wickets in the last 2 overs at the SCG and ended up losing the test. That too Clarke triggered the collapse. You will never feel safe until last few overs are left with more than 3 wickets in the bag.

Can't trust Sarfraz in a situation like this, hope he curbs his instincts and delivers for once.

and when i pointed out this yesterday, few posters were yelling at me for being pessimistic

where are those posters now? hello?

it is all about statistics and track record...i can cite you 50 events where pakistan got suddenly flat in 2nd innings and may be 3 times when they survived....so we have lack of confidence not pessimism.

when wasim and waqar used to bowl, we were always optimistic that they will win it for us no matter what. we were not pessimistic then.

so dont blame us, blame your mahan batting....yae bemarie bhot purani hai sarkar....sorry, cant trust them on pretext of patriotism . they need to earn our trust.

Don't bother, learn to live with it. People here don't like to hear uncomfortable truths and like to live in a bubble of their own where Pakistan is the greatest team in the world with the greatest batsman, spinner and pacer.

sarfraz always tries to become hero

in any case, he simply does not have skills to survive any moving ball. he will give it to slips sooner or later

Guys relax.

If they were two sessions I would be worried.

We only have 30 overs to survive on a flat track and most importantly ALL OF THEM CAN BAT.

This match is a draw no matter what.

well, someone need to puncture that bubble...........lets be realistic.

i dont know how can we play test cricket competitively with this 2nd inning bemarie? problem is that that it is now recurring too often. we just collapsed 2 times in england, i think 2 times against WI on dead pitches, then against NZ in Hamilton and now again

Dr saab is treating us like his patients and trying to give us false hope :misbah3

if you have 50,000 dollars right now, would you bet on Pakistan now if you have to bet. be honest, not patriotic. you have to bet with your own money say 50K dollars. would you bet that pak will survive

Pitch is as flat as they come, but losing Asad just before tea makes it a bit harder. Still pretty decent chance for Pakistan to escape with a draw here. Rain is costing a test here to Aus.

Big blunder by Aus,they batted atleast 18-20 overs too many, may just be the main difference between a win and a draw

No. Australia just need one wicket. Don't get fooled by some of the innings the tail have played in recent times. Those innings mostly were under no pressure. The moment they have to play to win or save a match, their real ability comes out.

And I am just not talking about Pakistan's tail, but most of the other teams unless tail comprises of capable players like Ashwin.

Realistically, Australia only have a slim chance here. Azhar looks solid as ever, while Pakistani tail has got some very capable batsmen too.

Huh, They scored runs in the 490 Run Chase. That wasn't under pressure?

Can't believe the way we gave 3 wickets to Lyon! Shows how Pak batting can go from 2 400 plus scores to 91/5!

Not sure why people are getting so over hyper. It's a pretty flat pitch and there is a guy who scored a double hundred batting at one end.

Yes.

Statistically I would bet more on Pakistan surviving than losing on this track.

7 down I would bet the other way.

6 down I wouldn't place a bet.

Nope, Aus did right here. If they would have declared without lead then Pakistan wouldn't have been under any pressure. Here Pakistan needs to bat out time and there is enough runs that Pakistan can't get ahead quickly.

Most runs were not really in hope of chasing those 490 runs. Last 100 runs were the ones where Pakistan thought they can chase it.

Knew this match could go the Abu Dhabi (England 2015) way. For all the claims of the supposed mental strength of this team, the batting lineup has crumbled time and time again when they have been backed into a corner.

On a track that saw two tailenders making quick 50s.

Height of optimism is for me to expect Pakistan to get a lead of 60 and get aussies out in 7 overs, any takers?

Do you think Pakistan had a realistic chance of winning that match after being 230-6? Don't think so.

They were in with some chance with 80-100 runs to go. Yasir did bat well on 5th day.

Chappelli has finally lost his marbles.

"The umpires reviewed it for this reason which is fine but, hypothetically, if they had asked the third umpire to look at the catch for another totally different reason, it would be a farce and I'm going to have a three minute rant about something that only happened in my imagination" :))

Brother, I wonder you are always so negative . What makes you follow Pakistan Cricket?

I would put my bet on Australia to win this game from here on. Asad's was a big wicket just before tea. If he was playing in the final session, Pakistan could have drawn it. I think Australia will win.

no that was not real pressure at all. everyone on this planet knew pakistan will lose. pakistani team itself knew from ball no 1 that they will not survive 200 overs. so there was no pressure whatsoever. and without pressure, they played just fine.

today is total pressure where you have to apply to save the game. and look what has happened

Bill Lawry gets so excited even if something is not even close for Australia. The bias commentary is so annoying!

Wow, Lyon is not starting after the tea. Smith is being unfair to Lyon here. No wonder Aus can't develop spinners.

Brother, I wonder you are always so negative . What makes you follow Pakistan Cricket?

brother, why were same people not pessimistic when wasim and waqar used to bowl? no matter how bad the situation used to be, we used to feel optimistic that they will win us the match. why? because they won it for us so many times

whereas our batting has always failed when put in survival mode. always. so why shd we feel optimistic. this is lack of trust not pessimism. people who understand and followed Pakistani cricket for sometime understand the nuisances.

But it doesn't explain why follow Pakistan Cricket if you don't have any faith and optimism.

Who was the Pakistani GOAT batsman in Australia ?? Can't seem to remember his name brother :20:

Anyone can help me with such ??

I don't understand why Sarfraz's test form has gone so low in the past 2 years, but his One Day form has improved. Weird.... :13:

wow.. Game of inches.. I think the position of Azhar Ali gave an impression he was out. Pretty tight call. Could have gone either way.

CricInfo tells, I have missed lots of fun, from Consistency, stability, experience & seniority. At least, this time Sarfy didn't come to bat against 2nd ball.

Can anyone answer if they relate

Bar bar hum kyun itna time invest karte hain when we have more imp things in life and we know this was gonna happen

The game is done and dusted now. Azhar couldn't have done anything more, let down by the seniors & his teammates. Have to feel very bad for him.

Why the hell can these stupid batsman not dead bat... such a flat pitch... rubbish battting from top til now..
We do not have to play shots. just present the stright bat ..

Oh dear!! not again what's going on? Yet another capitulation in the friendliest of conditions
