Not to be a total @ss.....but I really don't rate anything aussie have to offer right now. The games have been close , but S.A are not near their best without Smith. Not to say Aus are bad...just like.........seems like playing nyone else right now. Shoudl win easy...if they get lucky they might have chance.

You are right Australia are not much at the moment with players missing due to injuries and rebuilding the team, they are pretty much just as bad as SA.
S.A have always done well in ODIs against Australia in Aus. I think they will look to win the series 4-1 if they continue as they have done so far in series.

OZ drop their performance level down to/little lower than other countries (SA, Ind) --> OZ is crap
Other countries (SA, Ind) raise their performance level to/slightly above the low level OZ is now --> other countries (SA, Ind) are brilliant
But if you think about it, it's not like we're getting thrashed by other teams. The difference between the two teams is closer than people think.
We're a victim of our previously lofty standards, because our benchmark is a lot higher than that of others, and we're a fair way from our benchmark at the moment. We aren't just competing with other teams, we're competing with our history as well.

But problem is fall is not gradual. It is huge. None exemplified this more than the Steyn/Duminy partnership. You would back lot of teams to break that partnership before adding 180 plus runs. That parntership must have hurt Australia's ego more than any of the recent losses. Punter was so helpless that you almost felt sorry for him. I have seen Australia being competitive even when they had weak teams in the past precisely under Allan border.
We still see some traces of competitiveness in Australians. That is what keep them going without massive humiliations. They better get their act together before losing to a very weak team.
Inform Brett Lee? llol. Is that his first name. I don't think all those abesntees would have made great difference. But Graeme smith's absence for SA means more than any of the players for Australia. But England netured SA 5-0 even with graeme smith.
