Was surprised to read this bit of information. Not many would vote for Sri Lanka to become the ones to set this record if they're able to:

Sri Lanka have positioned themselves so that in Sydney on Sunday they can become the first team ever to secure two bilateral one-day series triumphs against Australia in Australia. South Africa have done it once, in 2008-09. So have Pakistan, in the winter of 2002. Sri Lanka did it with a 2-1 success in early 2010-11. But no team has done it twice - yet.

Match starts in a little over 3 hours.

Very interesting stat. Australia have been only beaten 3 times in a bilateral ODI series at home :O

We must have had some team to beat them in 2002.

Historically Australia has rarely played bilateral ODI series.

The centrepiece of the ODI calendar was always a tri series with finals, rather than bilateral, for as long as I can remember until the last 5 years when they began fiddling with it.

I'm sure we played the odd bilateral series at home here & there but it is only the last few years we have been playing them regularly.

Team news

Sri Lanka squad

DPMD Jayawardene*, AD Mathews, LD Chandimal†, A Dananjaya, TM Dilshan, RMS Eranga, HMRKB Herath, KMDN Kulasekara, RAS Lakmal, SL Malinga, BAW Mendis, BMAJ Mendis, MDKJ Perera, NLTC Perera, WU Tharanga, HDRL Thirimanne

Australia squad

MJ Clarke*, GJ Bailey, JM Bird, XJ Doherty, MC Henriques, PJ Hughes, DJ Hussey, MG Johnson, CJ McKay, GJ Maxwell, MA Starc, MS Wade†, DA Warner

Pitch and conditions

Both teams would be pleased the Sydney match was scheduled for Sunday instead of Friday, because while they were competing in Brisbane, the temperature in Sydney reached an all-time record of 45.8C. The forecast for Sunday is a much more pleasant 25C, with a shower or two possible.

Stats and trivia

Sri Lanka have not only won their past two ODIs against Australia at the SCG, they have also won four of the six the teams have played there this century
Ajantha Mendis needs two victims to reach 100 ODI wickets and if he reaches the milestone during this series he will be the quickest Sri Lankan to the mark
In the four games (Tests and ODIs) Australia have played in 2013, they have used 23 players; Phillip Hughes is the only man to have taken part in all four matches

If SL wins, that would be an amazing achievement winning a series in AUS......only second to winning Test series in AUS

....GO LANKA :murali

Australia have won the toss and are to going to bat first.

I am sure they'd want to make more than 74 this time.

Clarke wins the toss again and decides to bat first. Chandi and Herath in for SL (Tharanga and Eranga out) and same team for Aus.

Already won the last ODI series in Aus 2-1. Would be the first to win 2 ODI series in a row in Aus if SL can pull it off. Will be tough.

it is a blasphemy they haven't played Herath the Destroyer till now

Probably needed some rest after the Test series. Basically carried the SL "attack" if you can even call them that.

Not sure why Chandi is keeping. Makes no sense. Kusal is a better keeper. Plus coming off a hammy.

Herath might be a good option early on.

Now no more reviews left. WTH was he thinking.

Not a fan of this 1 review for ODIs. You need at least 2 imo.

Warner is not a consistent batsman , but now and again he will play a typical innings , to day is his day

Australia has strong pace attack , and a target of 260 would be tough to chase here

Need Herath on at the other end. Warner is not the best against spin. I remember Ashwin troubling him a lot with the new ball. Cmon MJ bring in Herath for a couple of overs.

true.. a walking wicket against spin.

if David Hussey doesn't play well today then he should kicked out of the Aussie team..haven't seen him play a match winning knock since ages.

These new gen aussies are hopeless against the moving ball

LOL hotspot of Warner getting hit on the family jewels

David Hussey reminds of Fawad Alam..

keeps failing yet keep getting more and more games:)

Why Perera? Why not Herath? Missing a trick imo.

Letting things just drag along. Not happy MJ. Not happy. Be proactive.

easily bowls two-three boundary balls let see..

Yeah his fitness has gone down the drain in recent times. Looks to be carrying a bun in the oven. Couldn't even get down to stop that drive.

MJ doing his best to give Bailey the time to settle in.

Finally Herath in. But the pressure they built up has already been let out by Perera.

Now Bailey is middling the ball. Top stuff MJ.
