Australia vs India | 2nd Test | Perth | Dec 14-18, 2018 | Day 3 Thread

Lot more needed to make a fist of this situation they get past 170 we can wave this game goodbye.

Think most of us know how this match is going to enroll ,have seen it in England and South Africa, gnite to everyone.

Get Khawaja out, he is dangerous on Aussie soil and once he gets a score he will get on a roll. Our key to win this series is keeping him quiet even if we lose this match.

Australia are effectively 117-2. There's no way India is winning from here having to bat last.

I'm not going to be misled in a 4th innings run chase again.

Four times bitten, fifteen times shy.

JB has bowled 36 overs in less than 3 days - at this rate, he won't play 4 Tests in this Series.

Ishant traps Handscomb lbw with a nice inswinging full-length delivery. It's quite apparent now that good to full is the length to bowl on this pitch.

India are bowling well , if they can keep Aussies below 200 here , they will be right back in the game

Umesh has bowled terribly today even by his wayward standards. Bowled 3 overs at an economy of over 7.

All 3 Indian pacers are very good against leftis - Aussies had 4 in top 6, then Finch with a cracked index and the other right hander is Handscomb. Next Test Marsh & Handscomb need to be dropped, but I don't know who should be replacements. May be Mitch can replace elder bro, Joe Burns might have a shout as well. Other 3 batsmen in good touch in Shield are both lefti - Jake Lehman, Curt Patterson & Dan Hughes.

Umesh selection is looking stupider by the minute. This is why Umesh will never be a top bowler. He just lacks any bowling intelligence!

Aus have enough to win the game now, they can just declare and bowl India out with this total..

Khawaja can understand Hindi / Urdu right? I hope the Indians esp. Pant is aware of it.

He's parents being Pakistanis am sure there's some Urdu his parents speak. Even I understand hindi Urdu Due to my once obsession with bolly in the 00s! Due to the bong beauty R mukherjee

What's a safe total for AUS. Want AUS to win make series more interesting.

I worry for Bumrah , his run up , action & the work load . Such a fantastic talent but will not last with the strain the action puts on his shoulder & upper body .
164/4 & another 70-80 runs will make this 1-1 here .

Vihari is a huge upgrade over Rohit, his bowling has been very handy.

What's with Michael Clarke's man crush on Kohli, it is getting tiring to keep hearing Clarke's ongoing salivating over him

Problem is our openers. They contribute absolutely nothing to the total. Even a 40 runs opening partnership would be very handy.

200 would do. The Indian team has failed 4 times this year while trying to chase a total around 200.

Kohli in form scored a ton, others batting well. This time around 200-250 won't be enough. Australia will need 330minimum to have any chance to win

What a day of Test cricket!!! I think, AUS is ahead at this point even considering Finch might not bat again here. AUS's last 4 is quite capable of adding another 60-70 here, which can't say about IND's last 4.

That’s true lol. Our last 4 would struggle to add 4 runs to the total:))

Australia probably need another 50 runs to have this match sewn up, no way are India chasing anything over 200 on this wicket.

Bumrah needs to play only the absolutely crucial matches. 90mph bowling with any action is way too hard on body.

It was India's day, Finchy won't be batting so Aussies are five down. Would be nice if Khwaja makes a hundred and Aussies puts some runs on board or else it will be a one sided test.

Absolutely.. Australia need atleast 400 run lead to win the match. :smith

I agree, anything short of 400 will be easily chased by India, I remember how Kohli almost chased 363 against Aussies, fell 40 runs short i think. But during that time Aussies had Smith now they have all duds

India won't be able to chase beyond 250 ,4th innings pressure will do all for Australia

The might be with Kohli and Pujara both in form.

Aus fast bowlers are out of form especially Cummins doesn't look threatening at all. On this pitch their the 3 fast bowlers had a combine wicket tally of 5 in 1st innings which is poor. Indians play spin well so Lyon won't be much of a threat.

Can't see India chasing more than 200 on this pitch. Australia should win this from here. But if India could run through Australia tomorrow, anything is possible.

India play spin well?

:))

Plus we gifted Moeen a 5fer outta nowhere.

Yes he was bowling well but still...

Ishant batted with determination and same Moeen was taken for 5 rpo post his wicket taking spree.

Present generations of Indian batsmen don't play spin that well. They gave plenty of wickets to Moeen, Lyon, O'Keefe, Panesar. Lyon is likely to run havoc in Indian batting in 2nd innings

Pujara is the no 1 player against spin in world cricket right now.

Kohli too has improved and not the same as he was 2-3 years back.

Vijay is quality against spin aswell and Pant can score a quickfire 40 if required.

Aussies will need help from pacers and one of them has to fire.

There are some wonderful things to admire in this India team.

Kohli is wonderful, Rahane is a joy to watch, Pant is exciting and the quicks are very functional, sort of like Neil Foster and Graham Dilley.

I’m actually enjoying watching them go about their business very professionally, dismantling an Aussie team with good bowlers but rubbish batting.

Do you believe pant is not a hack and can succeed in test cricket in future provided he starts batting more sensibly.

With 3 batsmen, Indians are not chasing anything more than 200-225. Aus has this game now.

I read your post on day 1 saying India will score 600+.

Are you watching the same match as everyone else?

It’s a max 240 chase I reckon.

It’s a quick wicket and the cracks are also widening.

Kohli will probably have to score another ton if India are to win.

Statistically, this is a near impossible task for India if it goes past 200. India's playing with Kohli, Rahane, and Pujara as the only contributors at this point. If 2 of those 3 fall, it's a house of cards at that point.

Vijay has nothing to lose at this point. He knows his time in tests is past him, and he wouldn't have the burden of "proving" anything. He only owes it to himself to try finish his test career strong.

KL on the other hand has the most baggage of any of the Indian batsman. He knows he's been a let down and would likely make a mistake and go out pretty quickly.

If top 3 fall under 100, we can probably call it a game.
