Australia vs India | 3rd Test | Melbourne | Dec 26-30, 2018 | Day 4 Thread

Australia top 5 should hang their heads in shame really.

Pat Cummins has absolutely embarassed them

Many batsmen are like headless chicken. No thought process. They should have batted for time, but they went for shots.

What I don't understand is why hacks/T20 specialists like Finch, Mitch and Head are doing in this team.

Travis Head is literally a joke

I remember he played ODIs against Pakistan on our tour a few years ago and I was like this is not an odi player and should stick to T20s.

I was shocked to see him find his way to the test team

I had recently some conversation with someone inside. Thought process was to bring experience and non-controversial players after sandpaper issue. Aus need to try out younger players who can do well in longer format. Many of these players don't belong in test cricket.

Like I get a few getting into our team as we lack depth, but the Australian Test team?

How on earth did these 3 make it..

You can add Shaun Marsh to that who has been appalling on recent form, the batting basically rests on Khawaja and he's not the type of player who can handle that pressure or responsibility. He'd crumble under it.

There's a difference between being a support player and a batting leader, this team has none of them in the team.

India edging closer to victory in the 3rd Test as Australia end Day 4 of the match on 258/8, needing another 141 runs to win; Great match for Pat Cummins who took 6/27 as India were bowled out for 151 and is now battling away on 61*

Brilliant performance from Cummins. Kohli and Cummins are two cricketers to look forward to as an inspiration for youngsters.

If Cummins can remain fit then he can develop into a very good all rounder. He has the technique.

He should be batting at 6 in the next match, he seems like a better batsmen than Paine and Mitch Marsh.

Cummins and Mitchell Marsh started their career together. One improved tremendously while other still trying find ways.

Excellent batting by Cummins.

Ideal player to have in your team. Does everything with maximum effort!

How many of the 6 pacers from both sides will be fit for the next Test. Our pacers looked exhausted in the last hour. Hope SCG is not as sluggish as this one.

We will have to play 5 bowlers at SCG for sure even if it means playing all three of Jaddu, Ashwin and Pandya Jr.

Best chance for an Asian team to win a series in Australia. At SCG, IND would have started as favourites- if Kohli wins the toss, it’s certainly going to be 3-1.

I do not know why so many are over-praising cummins, he has played the same way ashwin played fast bowlers in few innings of his batting - although he let down the team with his bowling in those matches - overseas. eg - his batting in 2011 in eng was good in comparison to the over the hill top order of India.

And in India - his turf - both his bowling and batting efforts were always creditable.

And cummins is playing on his turf.
Let him repeat it overseas...to give credit.

If India plays 2 spinners then it is done and dusted. Aus won't survive 4 days.

Plenty of chatter yesterday about how the pitch deteriorated. And yet, 320 runs scored today and Pat Cummins showed the pitch is still very much a pudding. This simply throws in relief how incompetent Australian batsmen were in their first inning.

India's capitulation in the their second inning was a blessing in disguise for them otherwise Kohli, clueless as he is, couldn't have known when to declare. The collapse of Indian batting propelled the game forward.

Couldn't agree more

Can anyone please tell me what happens when a team takes extra half hour, is this half hour and the same number of overs deducted from next days play?
Because it is not allowed on a 5th day right, like if the number of overs are bowled and 1 wicket remaining, then it is a draw, so why is it allowed on a 4th day or other days except 5th day?

Cummins bowled really well in India. He deserves the praise he is getting.

I believe it would be deducted from the time for Day 5. So, we will start 30 mins later.

Because Cummins was never seen as an all rounder and he played lots of very good cricketing shots. Expectations from Ashwin is higher and it's not like he didn't get any praise. Everyone praised him when he batted to draw a test last series in Aus.

Praising is perfectly fine if players are doing very well. Enjoy good cricket, no matter who is playing it.

I do that. But all *, exceptions are for Indian cricketers.
That is what I do not like.
Even I will be the first one to criticize our players when they are the reason for failure - because I know they are under achieving.

Bumrah and Pujara is getting very high praise in Aus right now. Even Ashwin was praised a lot for bowling well in the first test. Indian bowling is seen as high quality. What else you want?

Cummins has been standout in not throwing his wickets away and has bowled consistently well. If you are Aus fan then you will notice it and praise when others are doing poor.

Cummins is huge . Only player in this team who could walk in to any Test 11 .
We will probably win this in 30 minutes of play tomorrow .
For Sydney , i hope we play Bumrah , Shami , Jadeja , Ashwin if fit or Kuldeep & Pandya . I think Kohli might not be fit & that would be a huge blow .

If Aus wins the toss, I will back Aus to make it 2-2. Specially if Kohli is not playing. 20s/30s are not good enough which Aus is also doing.

I too think 2-2 on cards . Watching Kohli since 1st session day 2 , was clear he is in pain & the short break will not help .
Just hope Sydney has more life than this pathetic MCG pitch . Seriously , Aussies should petition to CA to do away with these disgusting drop-in pitches .

What an excellent batting efforr by Cummins. He is truly the man of the match.

Kohli will play in Sydney even on one leg...no way he is leaving this golden opportunity to win a series in Aus.

Ask Langer why Head is playing. It's his selection. He seems to be a big fan of his.

You think so ?
Bumrah it shall be unless Cummins hits a match winning 100 which is NOT going to happen . Game over in 30 minutes of start . Bookmark it .

Don't be soo sure .... this pair has already lasted for lot more than it should have and Cummins has scored 61 runs already. Lyon is no mug with the bat and if they last for another 30-40 mins the pressure will start to shift to India.

BOOKMARK it :)

Thats not the point and Iam not going to come back and do the "I told you so" if we dont win in 30 mins. The point is in Test cricket anything can happen.

Yes it is highly unlikely that Cummins will score a hundred and Aus win but at the same time it is definitely not so obvious. Yesterday even I too thought that the last 5 wkts will not add 250+ runs and that the game will end on day4 itself but they have already added 123 runs out of which 82 runs have been added by the last two partnerships. India have huge issues dislodging the lower order.

Its a matter of two balls. They will win very easily.

Cummins to score his maiden century
Lyon adds 40 odd runs
Aus to win by 2 wickets
Aus go up 2-1

4 hours to go...
