Babar Azam’s recent form in Test cricket

same applies to indian bowlers. Indian bowlers have been nothing short of top tier. It's only recently they get the respect they deserve. Best all round attack for most conditions.

Babar is similar in a way. He is underrated and I agree he is better than Kane already. Not sure about babar vs root. On present form babar is even better than smith and kohli.

The difference between Babar Azam and the greats is that the former does not get big hundreds. And until Babar can do that, he should not be rated at their level.

We all had a feeling he would do well in England but the way he has played Broad and Archer, and the way he has taken Anderson to the cleaners has been a real joy to watch

Babar Azam has now reached 50 in each of his last 5 Test innings; the longest such run of his career

He is the most consistent Pakistani batsman I have seen in my life. An anomaly.

Indeed , only Miandad and Hafeez come close in terms of consistency.

(Hafeez must have scored more quarter-centuries in consecutive innings then probably anyone else in history at his peak - ok he didn’t quite reach the half-century mark on most occasions but consistent 25s also count )

Faheem Ashraf is most consistent. Consistently getting out for less than 10.

i think your digs are better placed for shoaib malik. Hafeez, while still a leech was
a very valuable all rounder in the first half of the last decade.

For the people who saw Babar bat today... how did he cope against short bowling?
Generally ducked under most of them comfortably. But played two of archer oddly. On both the occassions he got cramped for room and played a flick instead of a full blown pull shot.

Kind of a new shot because he was in control while playing it

The 2000 run milestone reached for Babar Azam in Test cricket. Many more milestones to come in the future.

He did okay in this series stil needs to work on his concentration levels outside off stump also needs to learn to get 50s to 100s

Without rain/bad light during first innings in Manchester he would’ve probably made a century, had to reset 4/5 times - still hovers the bat sometimes though.

Needs to access the pitch much better poor series for him but he will bounce back against West indies.

Not long before he averages less than 40. Averages 42.28 now

In 2021 (5 matches)
Azhar Ali: 53.00
Abid Ali: 50.00 (inflated against Zim)
Fawad Alam: 48.62
Faheem Ashraf: 48.50
Mohammed Rizwan: 46.57
Nauman Ali: 34.80
Yasir Shah: 23.00

Babar Azam: 22.00
Imran Butt: 20.00
Hassan Ali: 13.00
Shaheen Afridi: 03.80

We all know how bad a player Imran Butt is, and Babar is averaging similar to him in 2021 and is averaging worse than 3 out of 5 bowlers (Yasir Shah, Nauman Ali and Faheem Ashraf)

In other words just above Hassan Ali and Shaheen Afridi, and similar to Imran Butt

Gotta give Babar time, he’ll come good you can’t be good all the time.

pak dont play enough test cricket, he bats in odi mode, lots of low percentage shots which u get away with in limited overs, which was his downfall here and against zimbabwe.

needs first class experience, warm up games, qae trophy, etc. he can do it technically, just needs to adapt his shot selection to long form cricket.

Babar is not a test batsman. His test will career end up similar or bit better than Asad Shafiq. This guy has neither hunger or passion nor talent or skill to be successful in test.

He is the only world class batsman that Pakistan have and they are still complaining.
Azhar ali though played 88 matches for him and still looks like he is batting like a newcomer

Excuses are running out for Captain Cover Drive for whom going missing in challenging Test conditions is no surprise now.

But but he's still young and learning they say.

For Pakistani cricketers it seems the learning never stops.

Despite all the GIFs and YouTube compilations of his pretty strokeplay - he averages less than Abid Ali in Tests this past year. And before somebody pipes in that it's inflated by 200 vs Zimbabwe - how much did the GOAT Pakistani batsman make ?

Yes there's lots of responsibility on him in a weak batting lineup - so what ? Didn't stop Hanif, Miandad, Inzamam, Younis and Yousuf.

This 2nd innings he'd better step up.

He needs to be relieved from captaincy. Just take a look at his average from the last WTC cycle. Was clearly among the top three batters in the world. He's at the level where he can't perform well unless he does targeted training before each innings. The extra burden of captaincy takes that away.
