New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult has surged in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings after finishing with 12 wickets in the series against India, which culminated in Wellington on Sunday with a 4-1 victory for the visiting side.

The 29-year-old left-armer, who swung the ball prodigiously to claim five for 21 and helped New Zealand to a win in the fourth match, has moved up seven places to grab third position. Boult topped the rankings in January 2016, and is again on his way up, with only India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan ahead of him.

India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (up one place to fifth) and fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar (up six places to 17th) are among others to move up in the latest rankings update, which also takes into account India’s preceding three-match series against Australia, the five-match series between South Africa and Pakistan, and the three matches between the United Arab Emirates and Nepal.

Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has moved up three places to 17th position during a run, which includes three consecutive half-centuries for a player of the series award against Australia. Kedar Jadhav (up eight places to 35th) is another one to advance for India in the list led by their captain Virat Kohli.

For South Africa, Quinton de Kock (up one place to eighth), Hashim Amla (up three places to 13th) and Reeza Hendricks (up 36 places to 94th) have moved up among batsmen while Andile Phehlukwayo’s eight wickets have seen him gain 13 places and reach 19th position and Dwaine Pretorious has moved up from 53rd to 44th slot.

Pakistan’s fighting effort in South Africa was thanks largely to player of the series Imam-ul-Haq and he has gained nine slots to reach a career-best 16th position with 271 runs at the top of the order. Shaheen Afridi, who came into prominence in last year’s ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand, is also among those to benefit. The tall left-arm fast bowler has moved up 38 slots to 74th position after taking six wickets in the series.

Other batsmen to move up in the latest rankings update include the Australia duo of Glenn Maxwell (up two places to 30th) and Shaun Marsh (up from 60th to 43rd).

The UAE and Nepal players have had some highs too. Fast bowler Mohammad Naveed of the UAE has jumped six places to 57th and a tally of 470 points that is the highest ever by a bowler from his side. Nepal’s leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has gained 16 slots to reach 134th position as he works his way toward becoming the first from his country to break into the top 100 with either bat or ball.

Nepal captain Paras Khadka and Sompal Kami have also made significant gains.

In the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings, New Zealand have slipped behind South Africa to fourth place. Nepal now have a full ranking after crossing the threshold of eight matches and are now tied with the UAE at 15 points with their 2-1 win but marginally behind on decimals.

Cummins is a gun bowler and should be in the top 2.

Starc looks like he is getting back in form.

Azam is going to be a great, better than Kohli, ABD, Root, and Kane.

Pakistan has a very talented top 3 now. They can follow the India model now with this.

Rashid Khan No-1 All-rounder :salute :))

That ZIM series was humungous. How else can u explain 3 fifties in 12 innings and 9th rank

Mate the opposition is taken into account when making the ranking.
If it wasn't he would have been no.1.
Have some common sense before downgrading other players

Search up how player rankings work to find out

Hence the question. How else can you explain the ranking? He was a flop in all the games in Asia cup. That's 4 games against top 10. Made 2 fifties in NZ series in 3 games. Had 1 50 in 5 game series vs SA. That's a total of 3 fifties in 12 games. The recent games are given more weightage too. It's just that he had a humungous series against Zim.

Even though Zim is a weak team, he gained a lot of points because of this:

For batting, the performance rating is based on a combination of runs scored, the rating of the opposition bowlers, match result and comparison to the overall scores in the match.

So u think Dhawan should be above.
I'm pretty sure that's the only reason you're talking about Zaman's ranking

Infact I'm surprised Dhawan's in top 10 too. He had his first 50 in 10+ innings . I'm just surprised with these rankings.

Just look at their points. Just 750.
It is easier to manage your downslide with these amount of points. As even with one good series you will be back in level terms.
But with points like 850+ if you have a downslide you REALLY fall to the ground.

He has been way too reckless to my liking. His form is important. I know he is some kind of an ICC trophy bully. Still he has to focus on overall form

That just means there are not many good batsmen in world cricket

He was a flop in the T20 WC in India. But again he plays ODIs better than T20s. He's key in Indian team

He scored 3 50s with a really good SR against 3rd and 4th rank ODI sides in recent 8 games.

Opposition is taken into account that is why he has entered top 10 after recent 50s and not after Zimbabwe series (Which did play a role but considering the Zimbabwe ranking the weighted avg would have lowered it)

good to see our top 3 making it into the top 15, the trio is young and the only way is up.. They will be in top 5 in coming years In shaa Allah..

Glad to see these names. Haris Sohail also needs to do something special and get his name in there.

He would have been if he would have been fit and playing regularly for year and half or two.

Some of the posters are here making it seem like no team ever played against Zimbabwe. However they lacking in some facts about ranking system.

Once again: Change in rankings of the bowlers or batsman is dependent upon the opposition's team ranking against which wickets are taken or runs are scored.

LOL WHAT? When did this guy become an allrounder ... is this a joke? haha. Any bowler who can swing the bat abit these days are considered as an allrounder?

Zimbabwe tour ensured Fakhar doesnt get dropped for 2 years.
He’s ranked #9 but can’t middle the ball. He has 2 shots - cut and slog sweep. He got found out and doesnt look like he’s learning.

How do icc calculate ratings for batsmen ?
Ross taylor got 831 for that 37 run innings in Hamilton
Kohli got 911 for 71 run inning in hadingley etc how do they rate ?

Hasan Ali from number 2 to outside of 20. He needs to start concentrating again he is one of those who let stardom get to his head.
