Babar Azam performance watch thread

I haven't seem him play much..

but if he hits similar drives as Akmal/Hafeez etc but unfortunately has the same snail of a mental strength and lack of understanding of how to put price on the wicket when the going gets tough... then I might have seen it all before he even plays.

I hope its not the case with him.

Big fan of him, he's the cousin of Umar Akmal. He also bowls some handy off-spin. He is fairly inconsistent though. Has a good knock and then a few bad ones. Two guys to replace Hafeez and they are much better technically. Afaq & Babar. Babar at 17 has a better technique than Hafeez at 32 despite Hafeez playing international cricket for 10 years!

The big guy however is Sami Aslam. Future legend.

Then we know he will be in the team in no time. Very strong ****** behind him.

I dont see how you can be termed as a ****** when you average 58

I was trying to be sarcastic, PP censorship board messed it all up. I have seen him bat, amazing talent but too early for international cricket. Give him a couple more seasons in domestic to develop his game and then bring him in to win us the 2015 WC.

We can't just keep throwing U19 stars into the national side.

We seem to want intanst results rather than work on the talent selected.

Now is not the time. Now is the time to work on Ahmed Shehzad, Nasir Jamshed, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq etc.

You can't bring in a player and when they don't perform straight away, ask for another kid.

Is he left-handed?

Can he play at #6?

Can he bowl?

Is he a good fielder?

If the answers to those questions are yes than he should be given a try against Zimbabwe in January.

That Zimbabwe series should be utalised.

Babar Azam and Sami Aslam are inshaAllah our openers for future.

Is he left-handed?

No, He's a Right-Hand Batsmen

Can he play at #6?

No, He's a opener although he have played at @ no3 too

Can he bowl?

Yes, A little Just like Azhar Ali or Ahmed Shehzad (though he's a Off-Spin bowler)

Is he a good fielder?

Yes, He's a good fielder

If the answers to those questions are yes than he should be given a try against Zimbabwe in January.

Answered, Now will you considered him for Zimbabwe series :P?

Bump. Got to have a look at him yesterday. Very similar style to Umar Akmal. Looks like a good prospect

Saw a lot of him yesterday and Babar has a very good technique. I see him having a very successful international career.

Very good player. He seems an under-rated bowler. He knows how to bowl the 'Doosra', and he definitely doesn't bowl as little as Azhar and Shehzad do (as someone stated in this thread). He is a proper 6th bowler, and can bowl at least 5 overs per match.

He should replace Hafeez in an year's time, but I doubt the PCB will take such a step (unless he has connections with politicans). Hafeez is currently captain and VC in our formats, so he will continue on to play for at least 2-3 years. I guess we can see Babar in the team after 4-5 years.

Hope he spends 2 years in first class to get the required experience before he gets into national side.

Good thing is that he has the temperament to match the talent.

Honestly speaking I wasn't too impressed with his technique.......He seemed to play with a big gap between bat and pad......

Umar Waheed looked a better talent than him.......I see alot of Mohammad Wasim in him. Unfortunately, didn't get to see much of Sami Aslam and Imam as they got out early.

He should be groomed properly, do not want him to be in International cricket early and then getting dumped.

I would suggest that he should be played in some ODI first, then be drafted into Test.

His innings yesterday was pretty good.

However, he needs to be nurtured to stop those brain dead moments like the one he had when on 50

inzamam ul haq was never selected on his basis of FC stats but on his talent that what pakistani selectors have to do. This guy possesses a lot talent and good temperament.

Please don't push him to national side yet, people who are asking him to be included in national side will be the first to ask for his head in case he fails in couple of matches.

Give him exposure at 'A' level, ask him to play more in longer format, let him do a county stint and then include him at national side gradually.

He needs to improve his game couple of notches, if he is going to back bone of Pakistan senior squad. He has talent, loads of it - question is, if he is able to apply that talent and be useful.

Needs to play a season in county to improve his technique against the moving ball.. other than that he has all his bases covered.. I see him making his debut within 2 years..

It will be another good test for the Pakistani top order today against the west indies who have got a very good fast bowler opening the bowling. Lets see if the Pak top 4 is any good and the match against india was a one of.

I hope he makes his Test Debut first and i do not want him to play meaningless t20s.

I think he himself realises that T20 isn't his game as he refused to play in the recent FBT20 and went to play a 50 over tournament in Bangladesh, Usman Salahuddin did the same.

This guy has got massive potential and I'm sure if he keeps working hard we've got a gem in him.

I thought he looked a lot like the Akmal's. Batting wise, I think he has it to make it big. Like him better than some of the current one's in the team. But U19 is a different world all together. Cant really judge unless he comes on to the international stage.

He should definitely be tried when Pakistan tour Zimbabwe later this year.

Too early yaar.. We all know Pakistani selectors.. one bad performance from a youngster and he is out and will never be given a chance again. Its better if he builds himself up for a year or so and is selected then.

It is an unfortunate fact that the most talented batsman that we have produced off-late lead the U19 team to its worst finish ever. Pak have never finished below fourth in that tournament.

Babar may not be a good captain, but he is a good player.

Bababr Azam playing on 30+ not out in his come back.

But he is an opener, and shoud be opening the innings. He is made to bat at 4-5.

He is very young and it's a good decision to play him at 4-5. If he can score heavily here he can be pushed up the order.

With the wickets being bowlerfriendly he might struggle to get runs at the top and that will dent his confidience.

Remember Younis Khan played many years down the order before he was pushed to come one down.

that's one way to see things

I personnally think, he should, from a young age, face the new ball in difficult conditions no matter if he fails innings after innings!

I agree dude. He is really a talent. He should open the innings to get set ready for internationals as soon as possible.

Azam look more like an ODI player like Ehsan looks like a test player.......

Ofcourse he should play a little more unlike Ehsan he is having a up down performance maybe play him after couple of seasons.....

In under 19 cup he looked like a good captain too very attacking which is what we need

Profile

An opening batsman, Babar Azam was the leading run-getter in the tri-series which also involved Sri Lanka and Bangladesh Under-19 in 2009. He was subsequently picked for the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand. He was Pakistan's leading run-scorer in the tournament with 298 runs. His favourite shot is the cover drive and has singled out AB de Villiers as his cricketing hero.

yes good talent hope he makes it big...how zis umar waheed doing in the presidents cup

He is only 5 days older than me, and here i am sitting on a chair and doing pundit-giri

Just showing again and again that he is an amazing player.

Hopefully, within a year, we'll see Babar in our squads. :)

Madplayer just got to know Babar Azam's brother Safeer Azam also plays cricket he is 16 years old and recently played the inter district U-19

As you are a die- hard fan of Babar just thought to share this wonderful news with you

Who knows we might as well get a Babar Azam v2.0 as well....;-)

Haha i am a fan of players who have potential. If he fails i would be the first one to admit i was wrong.

Well, Didn't know he had a brother. Would have to wait and see if he is as good as his babar.

Anyways, Thanks :)

Needs 625 runs in his next 11 odi innings to become fastest batsman to reach 1000 odi runs.

Needs 625 runs in next 13 innings to become fastest Pakistani batsman to reach 1000 odi runs.

Currently Azhar Ali holds the record for Pakistan by reaching 1000 odi runs in 23 Innings.

He will break many records inshaAllah. And contribute in many wins for Pakistan.

One of 2 Pakistani youngsters alongside Amir who Im sure can be greats

If he recovers in time will he/can he be added to world t20 squad ?

Yes if any of Anwar Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hafeez or Khalid Latif get injured during any match, net practice or some freakish injury and than if the team management asks for fit again Babar Azam than he will replace the injured player.
