In an otherwise unpredictable World Cup so far, Group D has largely adhered to pre-tournament expectations. The battle for the second qualification spot was always going to be between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh's victory in their head-to-head clash hastened the exit of the 2014 champions. Interestingly, the Netherlands have performed better than Sri Lanka. Bangladesh now enter their final league game with qualification almost certain, thanks to their superior net run rate compared to the Dutch.

A win isn't mandatory for Bangladesh to progress unless they face an extraordinarily large defeat. However, winning is a habit no team wants to break, especially as the tournament nears its decisive stages. Bangladesh has had a strong campaign so far, and if not for their late-game collapse against South Africa, they would remain unbeaten. The tournament's pitches have suited Bangladesh's bowling unit perfectly, allowing them to stifle their opponents effectively. However, their batting has room for improvement, which they will aim to address.

Meanwhile, Nepal experienced their own heartbreak against South Africa, arguably even more devastating than Bangladesh's, given the nature of the match and the stakes at the end. Despite the result, Nepal's performance showcased their capabilities at the highest level, and they will be eager to disrupt Bangladesh's plans before exiting the tournament. With a good mix of youth and experience, Nepal's team is well-suited for T20 cricket, though they lack the necessary exposure, particularly against high-speed bowling attacks.

On paper, Bangladesh are the overwhelming favorites, but Nepal poses a threat that their opponents will be mindful of.

Last time Bangladesh and Nepal faced each other was in 2014 World T20 (hosted in Bangladesh). Bangladesh won that one.

BD should try to get a big win here before the tough Super 8 stage.

Litton was given out but DRS has overturned the decision. Litton survives.

BD - 3/1 (1 over).

Good confident start by Nepal but if Bangladesh somehow able to reach 120 on this track so nepal wont be able to chase easily.

BD - 11/2 (2 overs).

Pitch seems tricky. Probably 130-140 would be a challenging total.

BD - 26/3 (5 overs).

BD should look to consolidate for a bit. Too many wickets have been lost.

BD - 44/4 (8 overs).

Mahmudullah and Shakib need to take it deep. Others are inexperienced (Jaker, Rishad etc.).

There seem to be more Nepalese fans than BD fans at the stadium. They are making lots of noises.

Jaker is using an RNS bat. I haven't seen this bat in international cricket in a while. It used to be common in 90's and 2000's (if I remember correctly).

Nepal will be on par with Afghanistan in an year or so in T20. They have better big hitters than Bangladesh

Spinners are getting good purchases off the track. BD have 3 spinners. Let's see how they do.

Bangladesh is a perpetual minnow. For a country with such an intense passion for cricket, it behooves one to think they can be a minnow for these many decades without any observable progress. Countries like Afghanistan are overtaking them these days and they might find themselves in the same category as Pakistan, if they don’t improve.

What's up with these Nepalese fans? They are jumping in the water pool with clothes on (to celebrate).

I hope they didn't jump with their cell phones in the pockets.

I just love this statement from Nepalese coach

Nepal head coach Monty Desai: 'We are building our story, not spoiling anyone else's party'

Srilanka is going to gift the game to Netherlands to put away Bangladesh in case Nepal wins this one.

Bangladesh tried to play too many big shots. This is not that type of surface (South Africa also struggled to reach 120 here).

Should've tried to take it deep. 120 could've been okay here.

Bangladesh can qualify for Super 8 even if they lose. But, a few results have to go their way.

If Netherlands fail to beat Sri Lanka, BD are through (even if they lose).

Once they gain experience they will get smarter with small things. Big teams also make mistakes. But they are good enough to offset those. Small teams like Nepal has to be spot on with everything they do.

Did Sri Lankan team made a phone call to you and tell you that?

Why would Sri Lanka do that? They are likely to try hard and return home with a win. They are yet to win a game.

Also, even if Netherlands win, they have to fix their NRR (their NRR is poor currently).

Nepal have started the innings.

First ball. Inside edge and four. Could've been bowled first ball.

Pitch seems very tricky.

Tanzim seemed to have sledged Anil Sah. Anil tried to respond with a big six. But, got caught.

Nepal - 9/2 (3 overs).

Tanzim and the Nepalese batter are having a fight. LOL. Physical contact happened.

Tanzim is an annoying little weasel much like other bangla boys lol They have been playing for years and years. Bullying an young team.

I agree that it is not needed.

Nepalese players are very friendly. No need to be nasty with them.

Bowler should be fined for unnecessary provocation and coming in batters private space. Can’t handle little pressure in spite of playing international cricket for so many years.

I agree. Tanzim started it. He should be fined definitely.

I also saw physical contact. Not good.

These kind of pitches are not ideal. Fresh pitch. Kicking off from nowhere at times. It can injure players.
