Having ensured an emphatic victory in just over 10 overs in the first Twenty20 International, the Windies will look to lock up the series against hosts Bangladesh, for whom it becomes a must-win game in Mirpur.

Overview

Bangladesh v Windies
2nd T20I
Sher-e-Bangla International Cricket Stadium, Mirpur
Thursday, 20 December, 17:00 local

The Windies chased down their target of 130 runs in just 10.5 overs with eight wickets in hand, courtesy of Shai Hope's 23-ball 55. Hope is the man with a golden touch in this series: he scored two centuries in the one-day internationals that preceded this T20Is.

And quick cameos from Nicholas Pooran (23 off 17) and Keemo Paul (28 off 14) saw to it that the Windies finished with a thumping win, scoring at a rate of 12 runs per over. But the platform for such an onslaught was set by the bowlers.

Sheldon Cottrell, chosen Player of the Match for this performance, picked up 4/28 to break the back of the Bangladeshi batting. He was well supported by Oshane Thomas, captain Carlos Brathwaite and Fabian Allen, all of whom picked up a wicket each. Paul got two wickets.

It was a dream day for the visitors but it came at the cost of the hosts, who not only were taken for runs aplenty but also had nobody except captain Shakib Al Hasan (61 off 43) make a score of significance.

Only three batsman could get to double-digit scores and Bangladesh lost four wickets within the Powerplay. Mahmudullah and Ariful Haque put up little partnerships with Hasan but those were not enough.

Improvements on the batting and bowling fronts are needed as four of the six bowlers used by Bangladesh in the last match conceded in excess of 10 runs per over. Returning to their fortress in Dhaka is likely to help the team stage a comeback, but it won't be easy against an in-form Windies.

Players to watch

Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh): He was the most significant contributor with the bat in the first game and will look to do the same again. Some wickets – he went wicket-less in the first match – will also help his cause and make him a deciding factor in the match.

Shai Hope (Windies): Hope is going through a purple patch ever since the tour to India earlier this year. He will want to finish the last few games of the year on a high and help his team to a series-clinching win.

Conditions

A bright, sunny day with temperatures ranging between 26 and 15°C is expected in Dhaka. The last T20I played at the venue was between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in February 2018 where both teams scored in excess of 190 runs. A high-scoring affair may be expected.

Squads

Bangladesh: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Rubel Hossain, Mehidy Hasan, Nazmul Islam, Mohammad Mithun, Mohammad Saifuddin, Abu Hider Rony, Ariful Haque, Mustafizur Rahman

WI bowling was really poor today with no control .Mahmudullah and Liton was class

Bdeshis players and umpires showing their true character in full flow today. When the batsman clearly hits the ball using bat and ball about to reach boundary, players appeal and umpires gives out. DRS gets called it, the batsman get saved but no runs awarded.

These Bangladeshi umpires are so bias. All they need is appeal and out is given.

Umpire stole 4 runs from WI.

That's the fault of the DRS rule, I mentioned it many times that DRS call should be done after the action is completed & ball is at dead ball state, otherwise it'll create controversy. It can go either way - batsmen given run-out and then DRS is called for an LBW checking, by law batsmen should survive.

Well played Bangladesh who should go on to this win by a big margin.

Going back to the thread in re: Tamim and Mushfiqur not getting picked in IPL. I mentioned in there about the former's selfishness, 15 off 16 balls is another typical knock that epitomises this.

Mushfiqur had an off day, for me he's the best T20I wicket keeper batsman in Asia.

Liton is a special talent, saw his range in that trailblazing 100 in Asia Cup final against our 1st choice bowling attack. If he hadn't been unfairly given out, it had the makings of an ATG tournament winning ODI century. If he develops the mental side of his game, he can be a T20/ODI superstar. Very eager to see his career graph from now on, high expectations from him.

Hope Mahmudullah can build on this knock and get to top gear before the WC. Always felt that him and Mushfiqur would have been very good assets in IPL. Wonder how the IPL scouts/owners manage to mess up in every auction?

This Bangladeshi batting line up will surprise many teams/fans in England next year not just with performance but also flair.

Brilliant BANGLADESH :)

Absolute beast mode today with the bat. Liton Kumar Das is indeed special. Flying start, at the ease he hits the 6s. Sarkar batted well and looked dangerous then Brathwaite took a superb catch to dismiss him. Shakib and Maudullah finished it off FANTASTIC.

Then bowlers did well especially Shakib. Class act, m.o.m, Shakib Al Awesome.

Nn.

TAMIM has a good record in PSL. Against Pakistani world class and International bowlers there. His BPL stats good too.

Forget TAMIM and Mushy. I thought Liton Das, Sabbir, Sarkar, Mamudullah would have chance.

Its about marketing and a bit if luck. There are far better T20 players even in India over likes of Unadkat, Axar Patel, Sandeep Sharma.

However, india has many different regions, and those players may represent core group of regions.

I think Liton Das has lot of potential to be a big time player for Bangladesh in all three formats with experience he will become better. He is so entertaining to watch

Liton Das is the most talented superstar in Bangladesh. We need to persist with him for at least 5 years, he is like Tamim when he first came in, with experience he can only become better. He listens to the Coach so good kid, need to convert his starts to hundreds

Mushfiq should seriously give up keeping, almost messed up braithwathe’s stumping then dropped a catch. Mushfiq isn’t suited for T20, we need to drop him and Tamim. Tamim is an ODI specialist

If only we could see the legend himself Ashraful and Litton batting together in LOI...

Was a good match. Congrats to Bangladesh. Hopefully the decider is a good game.

From what I've seen of him in PSL, yes he's scored runs but at a very sedate pace which is a shame because you can see technically he is a very gifted batsman. I have no doubt this guy plays for his average in LOIs.

As usual some well known posters are in comment section here and others are missing as usual as BD won this match by playing superlative T20 cricket against current world champ. I was very busy today and I couldn't take part to keep this thread vibrant. Well done my team.Congrats to No 1 all-rounder of his generation Shakib Al Hasan. He has played outstanding cricket today, I watched the match live. But the weak link in this test as usual is pace bowling. Fizz went for plaenry, Saifuddin is just a trundler and he will be smaked all over by good tam on a batting track. I don't know why BCB is ivesting so many imp matches on this trundler.

It's harsh to judge the bowlers on this pitch especially Saifuddin who got hard done by Mushfiqs dropping a catch of Powell , he should have gotten a wicket there and was more economical than fizz not to mention he is also capable of being a bowling all rounder and someone who can hit the ball. He is going to shine , give him time. I have high hopes on Saifuddin and also Abu Hider Rony

DHAKA, Bangladesh- The WINDIES lost the 2nd T20 International by 36 runs at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, allowing Bangladesh to level the series with one match to play on Saturday, December, 22. Bangladesh 211/4 (20overs), WINDIES 175 all out (19.2 overs).

Carlos Brathwaite won the toss and elected to bowl first in chilly conditions in Dhaka. Both teams came into the 2nd match with unchanged squads. Using a pace attack in the first match, the WINDIES shocked Bangladesh, but not this time around, as their batsmen used crafty shots and timing of the WINDIES speed to build a mammoth T20 total.

Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das posted 42 runs before Fabian Allen had the breakthrough in removing Tamim for 15. Soumya Sarkar looked set to partner with Liton to take the home team to a big target, belting the WINDIES bowlers for 3-fours and 1-six on his way to 32 before Cottrell had his caught. Liton pulverized the WINDIES pacers, striking 6-fours and 4-sixes on his way to a top score of 60 before he had his stumps uprooted by Sheldon Cottrell in the very same over as Soumya’s wicket.

Winter arrived in Dhaka, bringing with it falling temperatures of 17 degrees and fog for the WINDIES to contend with while fielding. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan struck a rapid 42 off 26 deliveries which included 5-fours and 1-six. Together with Mahmudullah, the pair added 91 runs, as they punished the WINDIES bowlers who were feeling the effects of the cold weather. Bangladesh closed their innings on 211/4 from their 20 overs. Shakib not out on 42 and Mahmudullah on 43 not out. Sheldon Cottrell finished with the best figures for the WINDIES, with 2/38.

The WINDIES never had time to settle and take their time going after the target. While Shai Hope went after the bowling with exquisite timing, Evin Lewis never got the start he wanted, he was caught for 1 and the WINDIES were 18/1 in the 3rd over. Nicholas Pooran came in, together with Hope, they hit some lofty blows to keep the current run-rate on par with the required run-rate. The pair punished Mustafizur Rahman in the 4th over, smashing him for 24 runs, which allowed the current run-rate to be above the required amount. But, going for another big hit, Pooran was caught in the deep by Tamim of Shakib for 14, off just 6 deliveries.

Hope perished a few deliveries after, trying to keep the run-rate up by hitting deep, caught for 36 off 19 balls, which included 6-fours. Hetmyer came to the crease and got to quick-hitting for singles and twos, putting some pressure back on the Bangladesh bowlers. Together with Rovman Powell, the pair looked likely to take the WINDIES to victory with their patient batting. However, Shakib got Hetmyer to get a mistimed shot which went high into the air to be caught by a diving Saifuddin for 19.

Powell began running out of partners as Darren Bravo went for 2, skipper Carlos Brathwaite for 7 and Fabian Allen for 0. It was “Mr. Dependable” Keemo Paul who stuck with Powell to ensure the batting all-rounder achieved his maiden T20I half-century. But on exact 50, and looking to bring the WINDIES home, Powell sent one straight into the hands of Tamim. Paul continued his blistering form, striking 1-four and 2-sixes to give the WINDIES hope as the runs ticked away. With Sheldon Cottrell on the other end, Paul took the chase upon himself, running twos when the boundaries were not coming easily. But, the climbing run-rate caused Paul to go after one too many big shots, and he was caught by Ariful Haque for 29 off 16 balls.

Cottrell remained on 3 not out, while last man Oshane Thomas was bowled by Mahmudullah for 0. WINDIES 175 all out in 19.2 overs. Shakib Al Hasan took 5/20, while Mustafizur Rahman had 2/50.

Shakib Al Hasan was Player of the Match.

The pitch was not only flat, the boundaries were slightly shorter. In Aus stadiums the boundaries are 5m behind compared to BD boundaries

Hope impressed again but others failed like Darren Bravo. Bravo should really only be playing tests.

Could it be that the top order in BD cricket is unpredictable/fragile that he has no option but to play like that? Me thinks yes. I remember Liton was smashing our bowlers to the cleaners and within 20 overs he brought up his 100 and suddenly after he went out, the others around him fell.

Brute force BD showed this match their might. Batting is powerful of it clicks like this.

I'd like TAMIM to maybe come at 3 and give Liton and Sarkar the license to absolute go on the charge hard if it's a bating track and if they lose wicket early then there's TAMIM the experienced matured cricket that he is now, can calm things steady it and rebuild then play quick.
