Bangladesh to visit Sri Lanka for an all-format tour beginning June

The Tigers are set to tour Sri Lanka for the first time in four years.

The sides will face off in a multi-format tour featuring two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is between June and July 2025.

The Test series will kick off the new World Test Championship cycle for both sides.

The two Tests will be played in Galle and Colombo in June. This will be followed by three ODIs on July 2, 5 and 8. The first two ODIs are set to be played in Colombo with the final fixture to be held at Pallekele.

Finally, three T20Is are set to be played on July 10, 13, and 16 at Pallekele, Dambulla, and Colombo.

Recently, Bangladesh appointed Litton Das as their new T20I skipper.

The last time Bangladesh played Sri Lanka in the island nation they lost the Test series 1-0 after the first Test was drawn and Sri Lanka secured a comfortable win by 209 runs in the second Test.

Before their visit of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh will have T20I engagements to take care of in Asia. They'll first head to the UAE for a two-game T20I series and then tour Pakistan for a five-match T20I series.

Most recently, the Tigers faced off against Zimbabwe at home as they drew the Test series 1-1 with starring performances from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who took three five-wicket hauls in two Test matches.

Sri Lanka's last international outing came against Australia at home. They lost the two-game Test series, but managed to beat the World Cup champions 2-0 in the ODIs.

All the best to both teams. Hopefully BD will do well in Test and ODI. Don't really care about T20.

Ebadot Hossain back in Bangladesh squad for SL Tests

Ebadot Hossain returns to the Bangladesh team for the first time in almost two years, after being named in the 16-man squad for the two Tests against Sri Lanka later this month. He has recovered from an ACL surgery after he was injured during an ODI against Afghanistan in July 2023. Litton Das also returns to the Test side after he was given time off during the Zimbabwe series in April.

The selectors, meanwhile, have dropped Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Tanvir Islam and Tanzim Hasan for the Sri Lanka Tests. Taskin Ahmed couldn't be fit in time for the Test series as he recovers from an ankle injury.

Ebadot's return, however, is good news. He played 27 competitive matches in the 2024-25 season including three first-class matches. He played one of those against the visiting New Zealand A side last month. The 31-year-old Ebadot has taken 42 wickets in 20 Tests so far.

Left-arm spinner Hasan Murad returns to the Test side too, after he was in the squad against South Africa and West Indies last year. Murad played only three first-class matches in the past season, as he was touring with the senior team during the 2024-25 National Cricket League.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will kick off the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle. Bangladesh drew their last Test series, against Zimbabwe at home, in April.

Bangladesh are likely to arrive in Sri Lanka on June 13, with their first Test in Galle from June 17. The second Test is at the Singhalese Sports Club Cricket ground in Colombo from June 25. The Tests are followed by three ODIs and three T20Is, with the tour ending on July 16.

Really hope SL thrash and humiliate BD in Tests and ODIs , both. Don't care about T20I's.

I am tired of seeing T20. Want to see some ODI and Test now.

Glad tour has Test and ODI first.

:inti

It is gonna be a good fight between these 2 nations... Good to see some longer format cricket now.

Sri Lanka bank on new names for first Bangladesh Test

The island nation are all set to take on the Tigers in a two-match Test series at Galle starting June 17.
Sri Lanka earlier today June 15 confirmed their 18-player side for the first Test against Bangladesh at Galle.

This Test series marks the beginning of Sri Lanka’s journey in the new World Test Championship cycle between 2025-2027.

Led by Dhananjaya De Silva, the squad features multiple newcomers, who will be looking to make a mark in familiar playing conditions.

Sri Lanka squad: Dhananjaya de Silva (c), Pathum Nissanka, Oshada Fernando, Lahiru Udara, Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Sonal Dinusha, Pavan Rathnayake, Prabath Jayasuriya, Tharindu Ratnayake, Akila Dananjaya, Milan Rathnayake, Asitha Fernando, Kasun Rajitha, Isitha Wijesundara.

Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Pavan Rathnayake and Isitha Wijesundara are the fresh faces, poised to make their Test debut for The Lions.

Meanwhile, Lahiru Udara and Sonal Dinusha, who made their debuts in Sri Lanka's previous red-ball assignment against Australia, retain their places.

Among the experienced campaigners, seamer Lahiru Kumara was selected, but misses out on the first Test due to injury.

A big spotlight on the upcoming Test will be the end of former skipper Angelo Mathews’ career in the red-ball format.

Mathews initiated his Test career at Galle in 2009 and is all set to draw curtains on his time in Sri Lanka's whites at the same venue.

The 37-year-old follows in the footsteps of Dimuth Karunaratne, who also retired at Galle following the second Test against Australia in February 2025.

Bangladesh announced their squad earlier this month. With Najmul Hossain Shanto set to continue leading them into a new WTC cycle.

Sri Lanka fixtures against Bangladesh:

First Test: Galle, June 17

Second Test: Colombo, June 25

Public interest in Cricket has seen a massive decline after recent rise of BD football team. No one including many sponsors even knows when BD next series will be held. BD badly needs some quick wins to get back into shape.

Lets see where Shaun Tait takes BD fast bowling.

Very interesting. So the BD public have more faith in a 183 ranked FIFA side than an, admittedly, talentless cricket side but are still ranked in the Top 10?

We can expect great things from BD football in the future I suppose

I think it is because of 3 reasons:

1) BD's main players are retiring or have retired (Shakib, Tamim, Mahmudullah etc.). Fans were emotionally attached to them. Fans don't have similar emotional attachments to the new players; not yet at least.

2) Cricket in general is becoming unappealing thanks to BCCICC. Cricket turned into a circus with overcommercialization and petty politics.

3) New generation of Bangladeshis (Gen Z and Gen Alpha) are more into football than cricket. It is probably due to stars like Messi, Ronaldo etc. Also, Bangladeshi football has improved with likes of Hamza (Leicestershire defender) joining the team.

=================================

How to reverse this? I think it can be reversed if new players start to win games for BD. Not some random games but with a level of consistency (like we saw during 2015-2019).

The new players are yet to cement their identities.

Its because Despite being ranked 183, Bangladesh football team wins games against equal ranked teams.

Cricket is different. CA and ECB tried for a while but couldn't expand beyond 8 teams with the other teams being filler.

Bcci tried but has more or less done the same, only Afghanistan has somewhat come forward.

Their is just no interest to develop cricket in countries like USA, China, Hong Kong, Canada, Ireland, Etc etc, these teams are all just bootleg Pakistan, India and England players who are mostly Microsoft and Oracle employees.

It creates a huge disconnect as Bangladesh is clearly a minnow but are ranked top 10 because their aren't any teams beyond these 10-14 teams.

In football a 183 ranked team facing a 193 or 173 ranked team is a competitive endeavour but in cricket, their is a huge disparity between Bangladesh and India/Australia/England despite being 7 to 9 ranks apart only.

Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, 1st Test

Bangladesh won the toss and will bat first

Sri Lanka: Pathum Nissanka, Lahiru Udara, Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Kamindu Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva (capt), Kusal Mendis (wk), Milan Ratnayake, Tharindu Rathnayake, Prabath Jayasuriya, Asitha Fernando

Bangladesh: Shadman Islam, Anamul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto (capt), Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das (wk), Jaker Ali, Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud

SL have selected a unique bowler for this series (Tharindu Rathnayake). he can bowl with both right hand and left hand. This type of bowler is called an ambidextrous bowler.

BD - 39/2 (15 overs).

Tharindu gets his first wicket in Test.

Its always frustrating to watch Bangladesh play cricket.

With other minnow teams like Pakistan you always get the feeling that if you remove rubbish and bring in the right players, you will see results as the passion + drive to succeed is their.

Bangladesh just feels like their playing cricket for no reason. It feels like a job their not interested in and are only playing to make ends meet.

Solid recovery by Bangladesh. Sri Lankans test bowling is doo doo. How did Pakistan finish below them in this WTC 💀

What a partnership this is between Shanto and Rahim. 199 atm but what a knock it has been from both batters so far.

Hundred ofor Shanto and Rahim is on 89* atm.

Good recovery. They were 45/3 at one stage.

Anyway, job is not done yet. Need to reach 500 minimum.

BD - 247/3 (78 overs).

Their bowling is god awful for test cricket

BD - 327/4 (103 overs).

Shanto got out for 148 earlier.

Mushfiq is still batting on 120*.

BD - 383/4 (117 overs).

Day 2 lunch break.

This session: 27 overs, 91 runs, 1 wicket.

Mushy gone.

Marathon innings from Mushfiqur Rahim. 163 off 350 balls.

BD - 484/9 (151 overs).

Some overs were lost due to rain.

Stumps for Day 2.
What is Bangladesh trying to do? Why force Sri Lanka to get all 10 wickets? Bangladesh bowling isnt top tier either.

Better then Sri Lanka but are they good enough to take 20 wickets in 3days?

Venue is Galle. It generally becomes very spin-friendly as game progresses.

So, we may see a lot of wickets on Day 4 and Day 5.

I think they are trying to reach 500. So, they haven't declared yet. I guess they want to avoid a defeat first.

BD bowling attack in this game --> Nahid Rana, Hassan Mahmud, and 2 spinners.

Bangladesh have never won a Test series in Sri Lanka. Their best performance was in 2017 when they drew the series 1-1.

Can they win it this time? Sri Lanka have declined over the years.

45/3 to 484/9 - pitch fairly docile . Fancy a result ? Personally abhor both these teams going in with just 4 bowling options !!!

What should be the game plan for Day 3?

Bangladesh should bat for 30 minutes maximum (if they don't get all out). 500 on board should be enough in Galle.

After that, try to get SL all out today. If not all out, at least 5-6 down. :inti

BD played way too many batters. They also can never take the initiative from a dominant position. Even if BD posts 600, my money would be on SRL or any other team to still win.

I am also more interested in seeing how Parvez, Jaker, and co does in T20.

I think they should've played Miraz instead of Shadman or Anamul. That could've given them an extra bowling option.

They are playing 4 bowlers. What if a bowler gets injured? Team should play 5 bowlers or 4 bowlers + 1 all-rounder minimum.

Bangladesh 495 all out.. I think it is a good score here.

They need to get sri lanka out today.

Miraz had fever ! Can any bright poster here tell me why BD decided to bat on today ?

Game is probably heading toward a draw, unless something dramatic happens on Day 5. :inti

First 3 days have been quite boring. Batters dominated. :inti

Hoping to see some twists over the next 2 days.

SL are trailing by 127 runs.

I think SL should bat for whole day tomorrow if possible. If they do that, they can make BD bat on Day 5 which may not be easy.

As for BD, they should try to wrap up SL innings as quickly as possible. A lead would be nice.

:inti:inti

465/6 at lunch ... get 40-50 run lead , Bang boys 100 for 4 or 5 likely script .
