Tanzid has been getting chances in ODI since 2023. He played some good T20 innings but is yet to do well in ODI format.

Tanzid should be dropped from ODI. I agree.

Pitch seems sluggish. So, if BD can get a few more quick wickets, things can get interesting. Gurbaz is the key wicket now.
 
Afghanistan is a better ODI side as it doesn't punish dot balls. Looking st the scorecard dare I day they had so many dot balls which is okay in one layers in small chases.
 
Bangladesh need quick wickets here to add some spice to game , its pretty much going one side now.

Good bowling like up would have tested them with short pitches 140 kph with slower bouncers

220 was a shocking score on a decent wicket. 270 or something is the average score here last 5 years. Needed minimum 260. ODI team is full of technically khet batters!
 
Joker, Miraz, Nurul all went out to similar fashion. Technically so poor, joker was the worst.

To be fair, they are playing ODI after a very long time (possibly over 6 months).

They may need a bit of time to adjust.

Anyway, need to score much better in the remaining 2 games. 260-270 is needed on this pitch.
 
Afghanistan surged ahead BD in longer format as the ranking reflects. Afghanistan batsmen are slightly better technically. Among the nations they play short ball better
 
Afghanistan win the first ODI match. 2 to go. BD needs to up their game in ODI’s, lacklustre batting in this format has to change. 2025 BD has played 6 ODI’s so far and batted the whole 50overs only once!

Yes in ODIs. BD is going through some transition in ODIs now. In Test, we can beat them with our fast bowlers now.

Bro am telling you, we all can see this now. This local coach is utter rubbish, he hasn’t improved the techniques of any batters. He rose to fame by claiming to have helped Shakib and Tamim early on in their career. So, after Shakih and Tamim become more popular, he indirectly took the credit.

As i said earlier Afghanistan batting is more suitable for ODI cricket , predictable result for Afghanistan. They will likely to win the series against most of Asian team's barring India.

Afghanistan played terrible cricket in the T20s and handed BD some easy wins. Good to see they perform better in ODI.

BD has a nice bunch of fast bowlers. They are all very decent.

Odd days - T20 cricket is not real cricket but ODI and test

Even day - ICC should scrap ODI cricket just because minnow Bangladesh has lost the match.

Peak hypocrisy.

All formats are important, and the ODI World Cup is still the pinnacle of cricket. I don't know why people are mixing formats, when each format offers different challenges.

Dot balls are their biggest weakness. In T20 you cannot afford that. They have big hitters. Good technique. That is not enough in T20. Until they fix that they will continue struggling in T20
 
Tbh I am starting to lose interest in ODI’s in general. Not because BD are not doing well. Its like the inbetween format. one of odi or test has to go but they wont get rid of test as its the so called ultimate test of cricketers character and what not. T20 is the future and I enjoy International T20s, so many close matches, great drama, always on the edge, great entertainment.

So ODI has to get the chop, I guess. It used to be my favourite format in the 2010s out of the three.

Their problem is tempo in T20. Not lack of skills. They can hit fours, sies. Honestly they will want to be a better ODI/Test team. THeir best is semi final which they already achieved. Afghanistan cannot really go any further than that. Both teams are poor

I think ICC should keep Test and T20. Dump ODI. It is now an obsolete format.
 
Well, I have always been a proponent of scraping both ODIs and T20Is and combining into one-stop-shop format to something like T30s. It's long enough to accommodate technically superior batsmen alongside T20 hacks.
 
2019 was our strongest ODI unit I think. Mushy screwed it all up with this dumb wicket keeping against Kane Williamson against NZ. We could've gotten massive momentum after that. This also screwed up Pakistan's qualifying for top 4.

If anyone from Afghanistan is here he can answer it best. But what I know and what you are drawing a picture from your thinking maybe different. For quite sometime there is no war in Afghanistan. There is a stable government in the form of Taliban. And they are rulling their country well although they are not getting enough money from rich country as help. I think there is some domestic cricket going on in Afghanistan. When your country is playing international cricket at the highest level there is enthusiasm among the local boys to take cricket as profession. As a result they will not have scarcity of new player in the pipeline.

Mushfiqur wasn't a good wicket keeper at all, pretty average one with a lots of fumbles at crucial moments of many matches. He should have been played only as a batter.

Average only 32 after a lots of matches. Not international standard. Needs to play a lot of big scores to take his average past 40 which one will expect from a number 3 batsman.
 
The main concern here is Miraz. He has gone off form with the ball for quite a long time. We play him as an all rounder but he isn't contributing with the ball. I can't remember when he took 2-3 wickets in an ODI last time.

Miraz block a bowler's place as he bowls 10 overs. So he seriously needs to find his form .

They are playing ODI after a long time. They have been playing T20s for the past few months.

Perhaps a bit rusty in this format. Anyway, they have been much better today. They also brought back Mustafiz.
