In the first ODI on Wednesday, Pakistan handed debuts to four batters — Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, Shamyl Hussain, and Abdul Samad. However, the batting lineup crumbled under the pressure of Nahid Rana’s fiery spell, with the fast bowler claiming career-best figures of 5 for 24.

Nahid, posing a constant threat with pace and bounce, varied his lengths expertly and caught the Pakistan batters off guard. Even seasoned players like Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha fell to his precise bowling. Pakistan were bowled out for just 114, their lowest total batting first against Bangladesh, setting up a must-win scenario for the second ODI on Friday.

Chasing such a modest target, Pakistan’s bowlers struggled with discipline, conceding 14 wides, and Bangladesh cruised to an eight-wicket victory with 209 balls to spare. The win gave Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the three-match series and an opportunity to achieve back-to-back ODI series wins over Pakistan — something they last managed in 2015 with a 3-0 sweep.

Bangladesh also received a timely boost from captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who picked up three wickets after facing criticism for inconsistent ODI performances. Tanzid Hasan starred with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 67 off 42 balls to guide the chase.

Pakistan now face a challenging task to bounce back. Despite a forgettable start on their path toward the 2027 World Cup, they will rely on a mix of promising newcomers and experienced campaigners like Rizwan, Agha, and captain Shaheen Shah Afridi to salvage the series and claim a crucial victory in the second ODI.

Expecting Farhan son of Sahib to go all guns blazing at the BD bowlers.
Kirkoot should be intresting as Pak would have faced lot of heat for recent losses.
Should be fireworks 🎇 ✌️💥

Bangladesh who haven't played for 3 months after being thrown out of the World Cup are doing well while Pakistan are playing garbage cricket even though most players were part of recently concluded World Cup.

Problem with BD i find is that all of their main core players almost left at the same time without properly grooming next gen to take on their place. I keep hearing that BCB is one of the richest cricket board in the world, I wonder what in the world are they doing with their money? Nothing is being invested on grassroot level?

So Bangladesh can wrap up this series without breaking sweat. Pakistan expect 2 changes in the side, not sure what impact it will have .

I think 1 change might happen..Wasim Jr. out for Haris... I don't see any other change

Can Pakistan win the match? pressure is on Shaheen Afridi, but some newcomers could provide some relief for him as he can say we played with youngsters.

BCB under previous gov was corrupt, didnt do much grassroots in different regions, very Dhaka centric for a country of 200million. Which hasnt helped. Current guy, Aminul has done more in a short space of time than Papon the previous president. I don’t know how long Aminul will last has theres new gov in place and they might make Tamim Iqbal the president of BCB.

Didn't the Bangladesh minister or whoever that person was, call Tamim an Indian agent? :kp

Mohammad Amir speaking on his YouTube Channel:

"Bangladesh won the toss and put us in to bat, and as usual, our batting collapsed. Only Sahibzada Farhan, Salman Ali Agha, and Mohammad Rizwan were experienced batters in the side. One smart move Bangladesh made was preparing a fast, bouncy wicket instead of the expected turning track. It was like facing out-of-syllabus questions, and Pakistan struggled badly. Whenever a bowler consistently clocks 140+, our batters start hopping around. Today, there was just one such bowler, and he took five wickets—Nahid Rana. He had also troubled Pakistan during his Test stint here. I’ve said before, even on TV programs during the World Cup, that practicing against slow throwdowns doesn’t prepare you for genuine pace. In the nets, players need to face bowlers delivering at real speed to work on defense and shot-making. Throwdowns don’t replicate that.”

Want Pakistan to win so the final game will be interesting, instead of being a dead rubber. Yes Bd winning 3-0 will help their automatic qualification for next cwc but why are they in this place to begin with. So playing qualifiers = more games, hence more official match practices to improve their odi format.

Btw why icc keeps moving the goal posts? First it was the top 8, now its top 9, ffs just keep at top 10 that gets automatic qualification. Rest will have to qualify.

Yes losing Mortaza-Tamim-Shakib-Mahmudullah at the same time has added to Bangladesh's woes.

Should have added players who won the under-19 WC final few years back.
