In the first ODI on Wednesday, Pakistan handed debuts to four batters — Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, Shamyl Hussain, and Abdul Samad. However, the batting lineup crumbled under the pressure of Nahid Rana’s fiery spell, with the fast bowler claiming career-best figures of 5 for 24.

Nahid, posing a constant threat with pace and bounce, varied his lengths expertly and caught the Pakistan batters off guard. Even seasoned players like Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha fell to his precise bowling. Pakistan were bowled out for just 114, their lowest total batting first against Bangladesh, setting up a must-win scenario for the second ODI on Friday.

Chasing such a modest target, Pakistan’s bowlers struggled with discipline, conceding 14 wides, and Bangladesh cruised to an eight-wicket victory with 209 balls to spare. The win gave Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the three-match series and an opportunity to achieve back-to-back ODI series wins over Pakistan — something they last managed in 2015 with a 3-0 sweep.

Bangladesh also received a timely boost from captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who picked up three wickets after facing criticism for inconsistent ODI performances. Tanzid Hasan starred with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 67 off 42 balls to guide the chase.

Pakistan now face a challenging task to bounce back. Despite a forgettable start on their path toward the 2027 World Cup, they will rely on a mix of promising newcomers and experienced campaigners like Rizwan, Agha, and captain Shaheen Shah Afridi to salvage the series and claim a crucial victory in the second ODI.

Expecting Farhan son of Sahib to go all guns blazing at the BD bowlers.
Kirkoot should be intresting as Pak would have faced lot of heat for recent losses.
Should be fireworks 🎇 ✌️💥

Bangladesh who haven't played for 3 months after being thrown out of the World Cup are doing well while Pakistan are playing garbage cricket even though most players were part of recently concluded World Cup.

Problem with BD i find is that all of their main core players almost left at the same time without properly grooming next gen to take on their place. I keep hearing that BCB is one of the richest cricket board in the world, I wonder what in the world are they doing with their money? Nothing is being invested on grassroot level?

So Bangladesh can wrap up this series without breaking sweat. Pakistan expect 2 changes in the side, not sure what impact it will have .

I think 1 change might happen..Wasim Jr. out for Haris... I don't see any other change

Can Pakistan win the match? pressure is on Shaheen Afridi, but some newcomers could provide some relief for him as he can say we played with youngsters.

BCB under previous gov was corrupt, didnt do much grassroots in different regions, very Dhaka centric for a country of 200million. Which hasnt helped. Current guy, Aminul has done more in a short space of time than Papon the previous president. I don’t know how long Aminul will last has theres new gov in place and they might make Tamim Iqbal the president of BCB.

Didn't the Bangladesh minister or whoever that person was, call Tamim an Indian agent? :kp

Mohammad Amir speaking on his YouTube Channel:

"Bangladesh won the toss and put us in to bat, and as usual, our batting collapsed. Only Sahibzada Farhan, Salman Ali Agha, and Mohammad Rizwan were experienced batters in the side. One smart move Bangladesh made was preparing a fast, bouncy wicket instead of the expected turning track. It was like facing out-of-syllabus questions, and Pakistan struggled badly. Whenever a bowler consistently clocks 140+, our batters start hopping around. Today, there was just one such bowler, and he took five wickets—Nahid Rana. He had also troubled Pakistan during his Test stint here. I’ve said before, even on TV programs during the World Cup, that practicing against slow throwdowns doesn’t prepare you for genuine pace. In the nets, players need to face bowlers delivering at real speed to work on defense and shot-making. Throwdowns don’t replicate that.”

Want Pakistan to win so the final game will be interesting, instead of being a dead rubber. Yes Bd winning 3-0 will help their automatic qualification for next cwc but why are they in this place to begin with. So playing qualifiers = more games, hence more official match practices to improve their odi format.

Btw why icc keeps moving the goal posts? First it was the top 8, now its top 9, ffs just keep at top 10 that gets automatic qualification. Rest will have to qualify.

Yes losing Mortaza-Tamim-Shakib-Mahmudullah at the same time has added to Bangladesh's woes.

Should have added players who won the under-19 WC final few years back.

Rankings crucial as Bangladesh skipper eyes series triumph

Bangladesh ODI captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz knows every match is crucial for his side as he eyes a series triumph against Pakistan and automatic qualification for the next edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

Bangladesh registered an impressive eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in the opening match of their three-game series in Mirpur earlier this week and get the chance to open up an unassailable 2-0 series lead when the next contest gets underway at the same venue on Friday.

While the series victory is important to Bangladesh, winning every ODI fixture they play is also crucial as they aim to qualify directly for next year's 50-over World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia as one of the top eight sides on the ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings.

South Africa and Zimbabwe qualify for the World Cup automatically due to the fact they will co-host the event, but there is a log jam further down the rankings as teams jostle for their place in the 50-over showcase.

Bangladesh currently sit in 10th spot on the rankings just behind ninth-placed West Indies and Miraz admitted he is keeping close tabs on the situation ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

“The start (of this Pakistan series) has been very good for us,” Miraz said.

“Winning the first game is a big positive. We have many ODIs this year and rankings matter, so starting well feels really good.”

Miraz took three scalps during the opening match against Pakistan, with the all-rounder combining well with inexperienced pacer Nahid Rana to claim eight of the visitors' wickets in what was an impressive display from the Asian side.

The Bangladesh captain admitted his bowling has been below-par in recent times, but a pair of games at domestic level in the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) has helped him prepare for the series with Pakistan.

“I worked a lot on my bowling after going through a phase where I struggled,” Miraz noted.

“I knew where to improve and focused on those areas. I also played two BCL matches to work on it. Alhamdulillah, yesterday my bowling was much more under control.”

Pakistan generally bounces back against smaller teams when criticism back home becomes too much, I expect them to win the series from here on.

I want to see lumber 4 specialist batsmen Molvi Rizwan to play at 6 or 7 which is his ideal position.
He is acting like a specialist middle order batsmen from quite a long time without any success. He is a fraudster

Pakistan needs to adapt to 300 balls minimum format asap.

Stay there for the whole batting stint.

Tap and run one
Place the ball and run two maybe three
and then of you get a rank half volly put it away.

What is happening is batsmen are trying to heave everything to a boundary or six.

Slow it down.Take your own time, for this format allows it.Then play explosive cricket.

If this happens Pakistan can win this match to take it to the series decider.

But ssaaaarr intent... Modern day cricket???

I think it’s unfair on Shamyl if you are picking him and batting him at 3.

I would let him open and make Sahibzada or Maaz bat at 3, they seem more technically equipped for that role.

SO they brought in pace guy Haris... Let's see if he can replicate what Nahid did in the 1st game.

Same old tentative rubbish like last game and you are toast

Treat this with the same approach you have in T20s. Put them under pressure!

Will be the same result, maybe not as embarrassing as the last day but do not see us doing much to these guys

Shaheen brings back his useless boyfriend into the squad in place of a more deserving Abrar or Faisal. Can’t make this up

What's the green thing on the adjacent pitch? looks like a green matting laid out.....never seen anything like this in international cricket

Shamyl at 3 is a disaster waiting to happen.

Shamyl himself looks like a disaster. So terrible stance and technique, was absolutely clueless against 140kph pace yesterday as if he’s neverr played fast bowlers before.

This shamyl Hussain is a king parchi son of journalist talat Hussain who is known to lick current govt bum.

Come on Bangladesh

I still think that the first match was an outlier.

Our batting isn't strong but the way they fell was indicative of other things. Would like to see how they play Rana after the disaster in the first match.

Come on Bangladesh

Just look at his stance and that bending. How will he play 135kph + pace ?

Interesting to see no crowd whatsoever. Even the National T20 being held in Peshawar has 10x more crowd than this. Was expecting the BD crowd to really fill the grounds to see their team in action after the WT20 but that hasn't happened.

i like the intent of Maaz but he defo looks a hack plays and misses and then slogs. And how on earth are they playing 4 pacers

150kmh bowler pumped down the ground for 6

Where are those clown experts who said Pakistan are scared of express bowlers because they don’t face them In domestics?

That was a great shot. Stand and deliver.

Maaz is talented.

Farhan’s going nowhere like this.

He needs to bat with same intensity he has in T20 cricket

On shot and some guy is talented, someone who performed in 3 consecutive KO games is a hack lmao one can't imagine the mental gymnastics.

maaz again wafting wont be long he gets out...some pathetic gulli danda technique he has..so far been very lucky in my opinion
