What's new

Baqra Eid, Bakra Eid, Eid-al-Azha, Eid-al-Adha...but Id-ul-Zuha?

I thought they all mean the same.

We used to have holiday on Bakrid or Eid ul Zuha when I was in school. The goat eating festival.

Bakrid and Ramzan are the only 2 Muslim holidays in India iirc.

Azha (Ad-dha) means Goat, thus the resemblance with this Eid.

Zuha (Ad-Dhua) means Dawn.

Sorry but have never heard of this version!

Maybe some Indian Muslims can enlighten me on this?

Zuha comes from 'Uzhaiyya' which translates to 'Sacrifice'.

Banned outfits not allowed to collect sacrificial animal hides

The Punjab government has barred banned organisations from collecting the hides of sacrificial animals ahead of Eidul Adha 2024, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

The Punjab Home Department has issued important directions, barring banned organisations from collecting sacrificial animal hides.

According to the spokesperson, only organisations registered with the Charity Commission will be able to receive the sacrificial animal hides. Section 144 will be imposed on burning the head and trotters of sacrificial animals in public places.

Section 144 will also be imposed on bathing and boating in rivers, streams and dams during Eid holidays. Nobody will be allowed to throw offal of sacrificial animals in manhole, drainage or canals.

The spokesperson also said that a ban will be imposed on installing mechanical rides to prevent injury or loss of human lives.

The department has directed additional security arrangements in Eidgahs, mosques and madrasas across the province. Instructions have been issued to ensure the best security arrangements in all the cattle markets, and the administration has been directed to ensure that no commission or extortion is charged in the cattle markets.

The Home department has directed that no illegal cattle market should be allowed to be established across Punjab. Necessary security measures should be ensured for the arrival of tourists and traffic control in Murree and surrounding areas.

The commissioners and deputy commissioners are also directed to coordinate with police and related departments to ensure all arrangements before Eid.

Avoid excessive meat consumption: experts

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Nutritionist Afira Anees Saad said that a healthy adult should limit meat consumption to a maximum of 70 grams per day. She urged citizens to exercise moderation in their meat consumption.

It is recommended to minimise the storage time of sacrificial meat, favouring distribution over preservation. She advised to consume mutton over beef, noting that excessive beef consumption may not benefit even healthy persons.

Afira underscored that consuming fat from sacrificial meat can lead to obesity, elevated cholesterol levels, and increased blood pressure, particularly risky for those with heart conditions. They clarified that consuming meat once a day does not adversely affect health.RNutritionists suggest that elderly persons and those with heart disease, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol should limit beef consumption and opt for fish, local chicken, or mutton instead.

They propose to divide the recommended 65 to 70 grams of daily meat consumption into three to four servings if desired. "A spike in cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, and digestive issues post Eidul Azha due to overindulgence in fatty meats and sweets", advises the nutritionist.
