T20 WC > IPL. Good to see cricketers are also realising that. Taking a break and spending time with their national team will help them in a long run. :inti

Punjab Kings rope in England spinner Adil Rashid for UAE leg of IPL 2021Cricket

England's Adil Rashid has joined Punjab Kings for the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. He hasn't been part of the league yet.
The senior spinner has replaced Jhye Richardson.
PBKS had recently signed Australia's Nathan Ellis

England leg-spinner Adil Rashid is set for his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) stint after being signed by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the UAE leg of the season. One of the best white-ball spinners in world cricket at present, Rashid has entered the IPL auction on a number of occasions but hasn't been able to fetch a bid.

The senior spinner has replaced Jhye Richardson. The Australian pacer, who had joined PBKS for Rs 14 crore, had pulled out of the league along with Riley Meredith. Last week, PBKS had signed Australia's Nathan Ellis.

Rashid, who has played almost every T20 league barring IPL, has 232 wickets in 201 T20s. England's lead spinner in T20Is, Rashid has dismissed 65 batsmen at the highest level. He recently played for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.

Rashid will be joining spinners Murugan Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, Jalaj Saxena, Harpreet Brar and Fabien Allen in PBKS' spin department. Given his experience and UAE's conditions, he can walk into the playing XI straightaway.

PBKS kick off their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on September 21. They will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad (September 25), Mumbai Indians (September 28), Kolkata Knight Riders (October 1), Royal Challengers Bangalore (October 3) and Chennai Super Kings (October 7), respectively.

KL Rahul will be back to lead the side. He was ruled out of the first phase of the season after 7 matches. Mayank Agarwal led PBKS in Rahul's absence. With 3 wins from 8 matches, PBKS are placed at the 6th spot in the points table.

They will have to win at least 4 to 5 fixtures from the remainder of 6 matches to make it to the playoffs. One of the 3 teams which haven't won the league despite being part of the tournament since its inception, PBKS last played a playoff fixture in 2014.

Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that permission has been granted to National Players Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

The permission for the players was granted by the SLC in consultation with the Technical Advisory Committee.

The ‘No Objection Certificate’ to the duo was issued for them to join the IPL teams starting from 15th September (following the completion of the South Africa Tour of Sri Lanka).

The two players will join the Sri Lanka squad on 10th October 2021 to play in the two warm-up games prior to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will be without their allrounder Washington Sundar for the UAE leg of IPL 2021 after he failed to fully recover from an finger injury. Sundar had sustained the injury in UK last month which ruled him out of the ongoing Test series between India and England as well.

Sundar hurt his finger during a warm-up match in the lead up of the five-match series. “Royal Challengers Bangalore’s all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of the Vivo IPL 2021 due to a finger injury," RCB said in a media release on Monday.

As per news agency PTI, Sundar appeared in a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru a few days back but could not clear that.

Bengal cricketer Akash Deep, who is with RCB as their net bowler, has been named as Sundar’s replacement.

The Indian cricket board could soon get richer by at least Rs 5000 crore with the addition of two new franchises during the 2022 edition of Indian Premier League.

The IPL, which is currently an eight-team tournament, will become a 10-team affair from the next edition and during a recent governing council meeting, the modalities of the bidding process were chalked out.

"Any company can buy the bid document paying Rs 75 crore. Earlier top brass was thinking about keeping the base price for two new teams at Rs 1700 crore but later it was decided to keep the base price at Rs 2000 crore," a senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

The source, who has dealt with the financial side of IPL in the past, said that the BCCI stands to gain at least Rs 5000 crore if the bids go as per plan with plenty of large business conglomerates showing active interest in bidding.

"The BCCI is expecting anything in the range of 5000 crore if not more. There will be 74 IPL games next season and it's a win-win situation for everyone."
It is learnt that only companies with an annual turnover of Rs 3000 crore will be allowed to bid for the teams.

In a welcome news, the BCCI is planning to allow a consortium to bid for teams as it makes the bidding process more vibrant.

"I think more than three business entities won't be allowed to form a consortium but if three business come together and wants to jointly bid for a team, they are welcome to do so," he said.

Among the venues where the teams could be based include Amedabad, Lucknow and Pune. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, with bigger capacities, could be the choice for franchises.

Some of the names that are doing the rounds include the Adani group, RPG Sanjeev Goenka group, noted pharma company Torrent and a prominent banker who has shown active interest in buying teams.

BCCI announces release of tender to own and operate IPL team

BCCI reserves the right to cancel or amend the bidding process at any stage in any manner without providing any reason.

The Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday invited cricketbids to acquire the right to own and operate 1 (one) of the 2 (two) new teams proposed to be introduced to take part in the tournament from the 2022 season, through a tender process.

"The detailed terms and conditions governing the submission and evaluation of bids including eligibility requirements, process for submissions of bids, proposed new teams' rights, and obligations, etc. are contained in the 'Invitation to Tender' ("ITT") which will be made available on receipt of payment of non-refundable fee of INR 10,00,000 (Rupees Ten Lakhs Only) plus any applicable Goods and Services Tax," said the BCCI in an official release.

The ITT will be available for purchase till October 5. Interested parties have been requested to send an email at ittipl2021@bcci.tv to get further details for purchasing the ITT.

The email requesting the ITT should have the subject line "ITT for the Right to Own and Operate One of Two Proposed New IPL Teams".

Any interested party wishing to submit a bid is required to purchase the ITT.

However, only those satisfying the eligibility criteria set out in the ITT and subject to the other terms and conditions set out therein, shall be eligible to bid. It is clarified that merely purchasing this ITT does not entitle any person to bid.

BCCI reserves the right to cancel or amend the bidding process at any stage in any manner without providing any reason.

The postponed Indian Premier League restarts on Sunday, and this is everything you need to know ahead of cricket's biggest franchise tournament crowning its 14th winner...

What happened to the initial tournament?
The 2021 tournament started in India on 9 April with Royal Challengers Bangalore, led by India captain Virat Kohli, getting the better of reigning champions Mumbai Indians.

It was played against a backdrop of rising cases, and deaths, from Covid-19 in India, but the tournament was unaffected until 3 May when two Kolkata Knight Riders' players, Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier, tested positive, meaning their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore was postponed.

A day later the tournament was suspended amid rising cases within the tournament, with a Sunrisers Hyderabad player testing positive before their match.

The organisers said it had "unanimously decided" to postpone the season, with 29 group games played.

What is the state of play and how many games are left?
That leaves 31 games left to play - 27 in the group stage, before the three knockout games and final between 10 and 15 October. The tournament has moved from India to United Arab Emirates, where the entire 2020 edition was played.

Matches will be played in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. They will also host the men's T20 World Cup that follows from 23 October to 14 November so we may see IPL games played on fewer pitches, meaning they get slower, and scores decrease, as the tournament progresses.

When the tournament was halted, 2020 runners-up Delhi Capitals led the eight-team table, with three-time winners Chennai Super King second. RCB, who are yet to win the tournament were third, while five-time winners Mumbai were fourth.

Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders are all in contention, but Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are led by England's 50-over World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss, were bottom with just one win.

IPL fixtures
A reminder of the knockout format: First meet second in the first qualifier, with the winner automatically reaching the final. Third plays fourth in the second qualifier, with the winner of that game playing the loser of the first for a place in the final.

Teams, and squads, were originally drafted with Indian conditions in mind too, so teams will have to adapt to different conditions.

Indian Premier League table as the tournament resumes on 19 September: Delhi Capitals 12 points, Chennai Super Kings 10, Royal Challengers Bangalore 10, Mumbai Indians 8, Rajasthan Royals 6, Punjab Kings 6, Kolkata Knight Riders 4, Sunrisers Hyderabad 2
What England players are involved?

England multi-format players Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes and Dawid Malan will not return to the tournament after deciding to take a period of rest ahead of the World Cup and Ashes this winter.

All-rounder Ben Stokes, who is taking an "indefinite break" from the game for his mental health, and Jofra Archer, who is recovering from a stress fracture of his right elbow, will also both be absent.

Two multi-format players in Moeen Ali and Sam Curran will take part in the tournament as they look to prove their case for a place in England's starting XI in the World Cup. They are among 10 who will participate, including white-ball captain Eoin Morgan, who will lead Kolkata Knight Riders.

Two of those, Adil Rashid - who will feature for the first time - and Sussex all-rounder George Garton - have signed as replacements for Australia's Jhye Richardson at Punjab Kings and Kane Richardson at Royal Challengers Bangalore respectively.

England players involved in the 2021 IPL
Chennai Super Kings Moeen Ali and Sam Curran
Delhi Capitals Sam Billings and Tom Curran
Kolkata Knight Riders Eoin Morgan
Punjab Kings Chris Jordan and Adil Rashid
Rajasthan Royals Liam Livingstone
Royal Challengers Bangalore George Garton
Sunrisers Hyderabad Jason Roy
What about overseas players?
New Zealand have confirmed their players are free to play in the tournament, so the likes of Trent Boult (Mumbai), Kane Williamson (Sunrisers) and Lockie Ferguson (KKR) will all be playing.

Australia are also happy for their players to feature, so expect to see Steve Smith (Delhi), Glenn Maxwell (RCB) and David Warner (Sunrisers).

Despite that seven Australia players, including Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa, have pulled out of the tournament, along with New Zealand's Finn Allen.

Kiwi bowler Tim Southee (KKR), and South Africa's Tabraiz Shamsi (Rajasthan) - the number one-ranked bowler in international Twenty20 cricket - are among the replacements.

Shamsi should be joined by international team-mates Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje (both Delhi), Quinton de Kock (Mumbai) and the most expensive player in IPL history Chris Morris (Rajasthan).

The West Indies Cricket Board also brought forward the Caribbean Premier League so powerful all-rounder Andre Russell (KKR), explosive opener Chris Gayle (Punjab) and Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan (Sunrisers) should all be free to play.

What about the race for the orange and purple caps?

Indian Premier League top run-scorers as the tournament resumes on 19 September: 380 Shikhar Dhawan, 331 KL Rahul, 320 Faf du Plessis, 308 Prtihvi Shaw, 277 Sanju Samson
Each IPL sees the orange cap awarded to the leading run-scorer, and the purple cap to the leading wicket-taker.

India opener Shikhar Dhawan (380) is leading the runs chart, with South Africa's Faf du Plessis (320) in third breaking up an India-dominated top five.

Royal Challengers Bangalore's Harshal Patel - who has never played for India - is the leading wicket-taker with 17, but there is two overseas players, in the shape of Morris (14 - joint second) and Rashid Khan (10 - fifth), in the top five.

Chennai and Delhi are two standouts team now.

Mumbai have been a bit complacent this year. Feel Surya and Kishan also seem to be taking the IPL a bit lightly as compared to previous two years. They can improve but if they end up being at 3rd or 4th even after improving, it won't be easy for them because of playoff scenarios favouring the top two team.

Other teams are comfortably weaker.

Absolutely livid how these elites get exemptions in Covid cases.

There is a confirmed Covid case in SRH player, yet the match will continue today. Why is it one rule for elites and another rule for common man?

A player who was most likely to play has tested positive, not a masseuse or coach this time.

Would be a massive, massive hypocrisy if BCCI let’s this match go ahead especially considering they ran away from the 5th Test

International cricket has been reduced to a Piece of S**t by these T20 leagues.

What an embarrassment to be a cricket fan.

I am not expecting senior Indian players to be “visibly scared” with this.

No ,he is not . Only one player ( Vijay Shankar ) and all other from support staff.

Ah ok

So I guess they can’t play because support staff being wiped out was the reason why the 5th Test was forfeited?

There was a theory floated during Indian withdrawal of 5th test that irrespective of player’s test results being negative there is a lot of risk involved as they can turn out to be positive in couple of days or so. Not really sure if this theory applies here.

They( IPL) have a lots's of support staff ( every position more tahn 2 members) where India team were without both of physio and Head coach.

In any case I'm hoping they continue and get done with this crap. Don't have stomach for another IPL window after T20 WC.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) have sought permission from United Arab Emirates (UAE) to have a capacity crowd for the ICC T20 World Cup final on November 14 at the Dubai International Stadium.

The ICC T20 World Cup is being held in Oman and UAE from October 17 but the hosting rights are with BCCI.

According to sources, who are in the know have spoken to ANI that BCCI want to have 25,000 spectators in the stands for the final.

“The BCCI and the ECB is keen to have a capacity crowd for the final. It would be an electric atmosphere if permission for the same if granted keeping all protocols in mind. The boards have sought permission from the authorities, keeping fingers crossed," Ani quoted a source as saying.

Fans have already returned to the stadium in the UAE for the IPL with strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.

As per the regulations, which have been shared with the eight franchises, fans going to the Dubai International Cricket Stadium need double COVID-19 vaccination proof but don’t need to get a PCR test done 48 hours prior.

As for regulations in Sharjah, fans need to be at least 16 years of age and along with being vaccinated, fans also need to carry PCR test results valid for no more than 48 hours prior to entering the venue. Their status on the Al Hosn App has to be green if they want to watch a game.

At the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the rules are same as in Sharjah. But for fans aged 12-15 don’t need vaccination proof but must carry PCR test report and those below 12 must be accompanied by adults who are above 21.

India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their first game on October 24 as the T20 WC starting with the Round 1 Group B encounter between hosts Oman and Papua New Guinea on October 17, with the other teams from the group, Scotland and Bangladesh, facing off in the evening match.

Abu Dhabi will be the stage for the first semi-final on November 10 with the second being hosted by Dubai on November 11. The final will be held in Dubai on November 14, Sunday.

Mumbai Indians' Arjun Tendulkar Ruled Out Of Tournament, Simarjeet Singh Named Replacement

Mumbai Indians on Wednesday roped in fast bowler Simarjeet Singh as replacement for injured all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar.

Mumbai Indians on Wednesday announced replacement for injured all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar. Arjun has been replaced by Delhi seamer Simarjeet Singh, the franchise announced. "Mumbai Indians have added Simarjeet Singh as an injury replacement to Arjun Tendulkar for the remainder of their IPL 2021 season," an official release from the franchise read. "The right arm medium fast bowler has started training with the team after completing the mandatory quarantine as per IPL guidelines," it further stated.

Mumbai Indians did not reveal the details of Arjun Tendulkar's injury that forced them to name a replacement for the remainder of the season.

The defending champions had roped in Arjun Tendulkar for his base price of Rs 20 lakh earlier this year.

Arjun, who has bowled in India nets many times, did not get to play in this year's IPL. The left-arm bowler had made his debut for the senior Mumbai T20 team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in January 2021.

As for his replacement, Simarjeet recently travelled with Team India to Sri Lanka for a six-game white-ball tour. The Delhi seamer did not get a game but he got the opportunity to rub shoulders with the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar, who have been regular names in India's white-ball setup.

Mumbai Indians are currently fifth on the points table, in the ongoing IPL 2021, after their win over Punjab Kings on Tuesday. The Rohit Sharma-led side is gunning for a record-extending sixth IPL title this year.

WATCH: RR's Glenn Phillips amuses fans by chasing Sam Curran's looping no-ball

Phillips, who had just walked out to bat went far away from his batting crease and attempted to try hitting it till the last moment. However, despite his amusing search for the ball, he still could not reach anywhere near it and ultimately the umpire declared it a no-ball.

Making his debut for the RR, Phillips remained on the pitch to ensure his side get over the line and register a seven-wicket victory. The Kiwi batsman scored an unbeaten 14 in just eight balls and gave cricket fans a little glimpse of his talent.

Phillips got a chance to make his IPL debut after he was drafted into the squad as a replacement for the injured Jofra Archer ahead of the UAE leg of the ongoing edition. The 24-year-old has played 25 T20I for New Zealand in which has made 506 runs at an impressive strike rate of 149.70.

He made a mark in international cricket with a remarkable 46-ball century against West Indies last year at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. In the process, he broke Colin Munro's record for the fastest T20I century by a Kiwi player.

I feel like this entire tournament should have been called off. Empty stadiums, listless international players who are here for a pay check and bland, boring cricket. The worst IPL ever.

Speak for yourself. Whilst of course there have been a handful of one sided games, most have been interesting and it is great to see bowlers like Avesh Khan flourishing.

Also, not sure what you mean "empty" stadiums! Are you sure you are watching the IPL?

The UAE only allows 60^ capacity and everyone who attends has to be vaccinated. Maybe these are reasons why attendances are low but regardless, they are low to non-existent. The counter point by Bala was that I was being inaccurate. Clearly not as evidenced by his silence.
