Biggest six ever?

Its just rumours posted on twitter then retweeted by hundreds and then websites picking it up.

Rumours are it was measuring 158.5 metres.

158 is complete nonsense. See Sohaib's post #56. It seems that if it was hit from the other end it would have struck the second tier of the stands. Misbah hit a 111m six in that direction in the 2007,

While nowhere near being the longest six in terms of horizontal distance covered, this must be one of the "biggest"sixes. But how do you measure the length of the arc traveled by the ball ?

For gods sake, it was big. Huge infact. I lost my breath for a few seconds.

Afridi made 88 runs and played an amazing innings. He hit wonderful shots. THE six got him SIX runs. We lost.

Who cares about the size?

Could be. Saw it 23 23 years ago. In fact, now that you mention it, it was a cross between a flick and a hook and he just timed it unbelievably well. Rod Marsh was commentating at that moment and he went crazy.

That SIX of Shahid Afridi to McLaren?

What was the distance covered by ball? because it appeared to be huge..

34.4
McLaren to Shahid Afridi, SIX, is that the biggest six hit in South Africa? On a length and Afridi gets stuck into that one, he's middled that superbly, that's out of the ground, out of the stadium, McLaren has gifted him a length ball and that's been smashed over the roof

Is it confirmed that the ball landed on the roof? Didn't commentator say something about the golf course?

Even if it landed on the roof, it is still huge... because the pavilion/building is almost 4-story building.

If we had a full view real time of the shot, it would be quite easy to calcuate the portance of the ball.

My guess is that, since the roof is approx 105m away and 4 storeys tall, the ball was going to travel minimum 20-30m further before hitting the ground.

Also, one can see that Afridi's hit is quite vertical so, if it's not the longest six ever (lesser strikes at 45° can travel a longer way), it certainly is the highest ever. I stand by it.

Nope it landed on the roof and bounced over

Biggest Sixes CWC 2019

ICC complies biggest sixes of the World Cup. Mahmudullah six was my favorite. Jason Holder hits the biggest one against trundler Mashrafe lol.

Dhoni 6 against Ferguson was pretty big. It was so big that he let out a big yeah after that

Biggest six I have seen was in an Aussie domestic league game. I think it was 143 meters.

Afridi's six in Jo'berg was the biggest I have seen in an international game.

I think one of the biggest I recall was Afridi v India in Toronto in a Sahara Cup game that went out of the ground and on the road, Boycott was doing commentary - it’s a game when Pakistan scored 100 in 10 overs with Afridi and Ijaz opening. The best six was the memorable one in that same game from Ijaz Ahmad, where the commentators Boycott and Tony Cozier were stunned - ‘that came right out of the meat of the bat ‘

That was a gem of an innings by Ijaz when he scored his 139* and yes that match also had Ijaz and Afridi opening the batting , but the game I’m referring to was about 2-3 weeks before this match in Toronto, a series which Pakistan lost 4-1 winning the last match and really turned it on in style with Afridi and Ijaz opening the batting. Here’s the video:

Watch in full if you haven’t seen it but do check out these two sixes:

Ijaz Ahmad six at 01:30 seconds in the video - an amazing shot for six, watch it and then watch the replay

Afridi six at 03:50 seconds, one of the biggest sixes you will see.. out of the ground, on the road, you even see the traffic lights , great camera work.

^ And listen to the commentary from Boycott and Cozier on those shots - just as entertaining as the cricket :)

I see. I remember this series. Pakistan, India, and West Indies used to play in Toronto.

Good times.

This six and century stand makes me wonder what Shahid Afridi could’ve been had he always been opening the batting....
