daal chawal is more like comfort food, I like it but no way anyone will prefer it over Pulao or biryani

I'm not sure how its made (PC Dumpukht serves awesome chilman biryani!) .. But its less spicier than normal biryani, has saffron, nuts and kishmish in it, as well as a baked layer of "pastry" or sth (dont know what its called)..

It is scrumptious. Sheer heaven!

Very interesting, never heard of this. is this only found in certian areas? where?

Call me crazy, but daal chawal is just as good as chicken pulao.

Ranked only a fraction of an inch beneath it.

Chicken pulao > daal chawal >>> biryani :D

Daal Chawal really

My pecking order Mutton pulao> Biryani > Pulao though if its Savour's pulao then Biryani = Pulao Daal Chawal no chance

Biryani v Pulao v Mutton Pulao v Daal Chawal?

Good, Alhumdulillah. :)

Why don't people like daal chawal? Biryani's too spicy.

Masha'Allah. Daal Chawal is nice but no where near the level of Biryani. You don't like spice : oThe way I see it, the spicier, the better :uakmal

Biryani > Kabli pulao > normal pulao.

The vibrant color of biryani, a combination of yellow and white brings life to the dining table. The potato in it has a special savory taste and texture and when you combine it with raita, it's the most perfect combination.

Chicken biryani is better than mutton, but that's a personal preference.

+ 1

Beryani all the way. :gayle

Biryani, but only home made one! The restaurants put too much stuff into it like lemon and what not.

Daal chawal is brilliant, specially with kachay keemay k kabab.
But nothing beats biryani.

Daal chawal is very bland and mediocre. Its bearable with mango pickle though.

For Daal Chawal there is a rehri vala in G-9 karachi Company he has Daal Chawal with putli chutni that is very tasty otherwise i dont like the Daal chawal

biryani is a new trend among pathans and people from azad kashmir in uk

it has always been kabuli pilau /mutton pilau for pathans

for mirpuris it was always mutton pilau (saloonay chawal)

and for upper azad kashmiris there is saag pilau (which is made with small fat rice type and various local greens/herbs cut up )

and for the yakhnee /mutton pilau barley was used instead of rice and called by local name of batee

I have been eating biryani since I was born in 1991. Not sure if you can call it a new trend.

:91:

Its one of the first "adult" food I remember along with the generic roti salan.

No match for Biryani to Dawal Chawal, that option added accidently! :yk

Biryani > Rest all

I am assuming your are talking about Indian punjabis. Pakistani punjabis do eat a lot of pulao and biryani. I am not punjabi, but I find Muslim punjabi and sikh/hindu punjabi cuisine is very different. I wonder why though, because even sikhs eat meat

Only Urban Punjabi's eat rice in India, Paindu people absolutely hate anything made of rice, maida or anything other than wheat or makki in winters. Rice eaters are teased with names like 'chaul khaana bhaiyaa' (Rice eater bhaiyaa from UP/Bihar).

Everyone loves rice in kheer haha.

I am sure you are also speaking on behalf of Urban Pakistani Punjabi, rural people simply don't have time for fancy dishes like Biryani or Pulao. They are hard working and simply want 10-12 roti's per meal.

Biryani all the way, Daal Chawal only good if others not available! :yk2

Just having Yakhni pulao right now, nothing can beat pulao with extra fat on the meat. Tastes Amazing!!!

I like Chicken Biryani better then Mutton Biryani. Mutton goes better on pulao and chicken better on biryani
