I finally gave in and saw Dhurandhar a couple of days back. Not a bad movie...though obviously more focused on spectacle than any story telling. I was concerned that I'd get bored with the run time but it wasn't too bad to be honest. They could've definitely tightened it by dropping the love story and all the Doval and Modi propaganda. Would've made for a better, crisper movie even if it still was mostly fluff.
More interestingly, I saw a couple of Pakistani discussions on the movie. One was particularly interesting where the host walked around in Lyari talking to folks there about it - what was true, what exaggerated. He even interviewed a nephew of Rehman Baloch to talk about the movie.
Couple of things stuck me
- The filmmakers seem to have captured the visuals of Lyari pretty well. The sense of dilapidation and age seems very real based on the video I saw. Even the energy and rawness comes through
- Everybody the host talked to on the streets of Lyari seems to have seen the movie. I had no idea Indian cinema was so accessible in Pakistan.
