Boxing champion Amir Khan offers to help Pakistan players get fit

Cheap promotion but thats very normal of professional boxers who are fighting for money.

lato' kay bhoot bato' say nahi mantay. Maybe we do need Amir Khan to set our players straight :hasan

After one month of staying with Pakistani players, Amir Khan will himself start looking like Rikishi Phatu.

here we go .... translation... I want a piece of the pie also. There is $$$$ in PCB account so I want some of it..

Boxing champ?? This dude is considered nothing more than a drama queen and a joke in the boxing world.. Everytime he has stepped up against a worthy opponent he has been knocked out ...

Cheap promotion tactic nothing more.. He should rather focus on fixing his mediocre boxing career.

Keep this clown away.

All he wants is money and fame. We need better players, fitness will come naturally.

There are fitness trainers with the team - what are they being paid to do?

Looking at the squad about 5 or 6 clearly look overweight.

If you are dedicated to your profession as a sportsman, then you will focus on fitness and getting yourself in the best physical state through diet and nutrition, aerobic exercise combined with strength training, without requiring anyone to enforce it or dictate your routine to you.

It does not matter how talented or skilful you are with bat or ball, but if you are not conditioned physically and not prepared mentally - you will not be able to PERFORM at your best... now this is what separates the GREATEST from the GOOD, because the GOOD become complacent at the success they achieve, but the GREATEST continue to strive to achieve even higher levels of success.. and the finest examples of this attitude in the sub-continent are Imran Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.

He says wearing a shirt sponsored by a shisha lounge.... This guy is a comedian and he doesn't even know it.

no thank amir pakistan team ate already in lot of trouble we don’t need a quitter to set us straight

We don’t need a boxer to give a cricketer fitness tips. Saj is right, what are these so called fitness trainers doing?

More critical question is what happened to Mickey Arthur's fitness crusade? He sent Umar Akmal home in 2017, why did he not send these 5-6 players home? Is it because they were in his good books in comparison.

One thing i cannot stand are double standards. The main reason a few players like Shadab, Imad, Hasan have regressed is because of receiving blue eyed treatment from the coach.

People are mocking him but Amir would probably do a good job. He's a similar ethnicity to the current players hence would probably know what foods and fitness exercises would work best for their genetics, and no doubt he's probably worked with many talented fitness and nutrition coaches. And maybe it'll inspire the rest a bit, having someone to look up to in that regard.

He's also less likely to be forgiving as he's the one providing the favour. I'm sure some of the fitness coaches don't go so hard as they know bashing a player for their diet/work rate etc. could lead to a dispute between them and the team and eventual sacking.

I definitely take him up on his offer tbh, more to help set up fitness and diet regimes for the future rather than suddenly changing things in the world cup.

If you follow him on snapchat / social media you will see that he is a typical British Pakistani who regularly eats burgers / takeaways and goes shisha. Regularly.

I’m sure he cuts down and is better close to a fight but certainly does not live the life of an international level sportsman.

As for not needing the money from ‘broke PCB’... Pakistan v India is among the biggest things in sport. With more than a billion viewers and the popularity on social media, a fighter like him, who earns his salary depending on popularity, knows that along with the millions of tweets and articles following the match, if he gets mentioned this is great free publicity.

If there was a sportsman available to guide Pakistan team on fitness, my vote would go for Jahangir Khan , the legendary squash player - arguably the fittest sportsman in history.

If he can make the Pakistan cricketers reach even a quarter of his level of fitness, you’ve done serious progress.

Cricket fitness is not the same as regular fitness, Pradeep Sangwan a player with Kohli during u19 wc winning team was way more fitter than Kohli with abs etc, but was toothless batting and bowling..

Every sport requires different fitness and muscle memory training..

Aussies Kiwis and Saffers still have best fitness because of a sports culture.. hopefully India is getting that culture with improving economy and individuality

Very misleading title

AK just offered to help them via a tweet, most likely as a promotional tactic

He isn't signed up contracted to do anything, neither should he be. There are professionals who do this for a living who could do a much better job

He probably rests and lets go in between fights. But I don't doubt his overall fitness. Boxing, especially at his weight class requires supreme fitness. Very hard to last so many rounds constantly punching often at full power. It is far, far more than the demands of cricket. Look at Mcgregor vs Mayweather, Mcgregor is a supreme athlete but was tired after a few rounds and disposed of. While Mayweather despite being around 40, lasted. Which is probably down to Mayweather had better understanding of diet and fitness regime to keep himself fit for boxing than Mcgregor who should have had the advantage in fitness due to his age.

If he does eat stuff like burgers, takeaways etc., even better, he'll show how to get into adequate fitness despite enjoying yourself now and again.

Especially in terms of diet/training for strength, this is something a lot of our cricketers might not know, a lot tend to not be able to clear the boundary as easily. It's also might be a better way to keep fit, just doing cardio might be boring for some, while a mix of strength and cardio usually works better to keep fit.

I'm sure Amir's fitness/nutrition trainers will do a better job than Amir himself, and I wouldn't be that surprised if he has one there to help him if he takes on the challenge of showing players to keep fit. Or Amir just simply passes down what he knows that's drilled into him from his fitness and nutrition trainers. It doesn't matter so much if he doesn't stick to it all year round technically, he'll still know what he should be doing and have experience of doing all those things in the past in order to get fit for fights. Amir is someone who has a whole team of experts just dedicated to him. Pakistan cricket, it's different, there's 1 for 15 or so players. Hence Amir's likely to have some good knowledge just from the virtue of how many experts he's worked with.

I can't believe with all the money in cricket the International cricketers don't have personal training tailored for them. Sports fitness is not one size fit all, there should be specific workout tailored for each player. A fast bowler may need different kind of workout to develop fast twitchy muscles, than a batsman who probably need to work on fore arm. Even colleges here have dedicated fitness trainer who will develop training regiment based on sport and position.

The trainers are there to say good things about players and collect pay checks obviously

Bro people need to realize cricket is a skilled base game not a fitness based game this whole fitness ** is only required when you have the skill to back it up if their is minimal skill maximum fitness wouldn’t help out

True. But a good athlete can indeed become a good bowler if he gets his action on point in terms of biomechanics. It has to be functional of course.

a good athlete may never become a great batsman until he improves his hand eye coordination and reaction time reflexes.

Cricket requires skills. Lots of skills and then you need elite top level fitness to complement it. One without the other is meaningless though.

A talented player will be just that. A talent and never realised his full potential if he doesn't take fitness to the next level.
