Can Jonny Bairstow break Mohammad Yousuf's record of 1788 runs in a year? He needs 698

India will put a halt on his run-scoring.

700 runs in 6 Test in Asia is really a tough ask. May be in olden days it was possible as the Dhaka wicket could have allowed a triple while Indian wickets were also batting belters; but I think all 6 Tests will be relatively low scoring. Also, he comes at 7 - not sure that's a spot to pile up runs.

No chance - may be he'll break Vaughan's English record.

The closest ever with a realistic chance was Clarke a few years ago

Top bat.

Record doesn't matter. Cook > Root equal or > Bairstow.

With all due respect, you want one of the best batsmen in the world to have such a record. Bairstow is not even the second best batsman in his team, let alone in the league of MoYo or Sir IVA Richards.

Well with Cook and Root, one is an England ATG and the other a potential ATG, so there's no shame in being the next best.

I think Bairstow is wasted at 7, what's the point of him doing rescue acts when England are 5 down, when he can prevent those bad starts himself higher up the order.

What impresses me about Bairstow is his willingness to learn. He had no clue against Yasir at Lord's, he wasn't picking up any of the variations but he learned from his mistakes and played him a lot better afterwards.

Against swing and seam, Bairstow I think will eventually prove himself better than Yousuf whose one good year in 2006 does not make up for years of underachievement and I say that as someone who loved watching Yousuf bat.

Yousuf however is far better against spin.

Braistow is great and he had an excellent year with the bat. But as a batsman moyo is on a whole new level compared to him. I'd be sad if he actually breaks that record.

But good luck to him obviously. Scoring over 600 against India in India won't be easy.

Yousuf was not the best either. The guy average in 30s in matches Pakistan won.

Bairstow has already shown more guts than Yousuf could in his entire career.

MoYo was not that great of a player of spin tbh.

It'll be well deserved if he pulls it off on turning tracks in India.

Not a fan of his keeping but as a lower-order bat dude is a monster.. May be England can covert him as a specialist bat and replace guy like Ballence with pure keeper

Son of Bluey won't break the record.

I look to the day when they give the gloves to someone else and move him up to #4 where he can really do damage.

He looks a class act. the question though when it comes to English talent is can they take it to the next level.
Root seems to be doing so, with a serviceable player like Cook, England can have a side to dominate on most conditions for the next 6 years or so.
I think if Bairstow is to fulfill his potential he'll have to give up the gloves at some point in his career. Probably bat up the order as well.

Indeed it would be a great effort if he does as by the time he gets into bat for england the pitches are likely to have fallen apart completely which will make scoring tough.

True that. Wasted at 7.

He's not far behind Root or Cook and is one of England's top bats. Moving him up would mean he'd contribute with more tons as well.

Why is he not batting at #4 for England? Way better than Ballance.

He has a chance tomorrow to bail ENG out of trouble along with Stokes and Zafar. He is still the leading run scorer this season.
