Can topple PTI government in a week if Asif Ali Zardari allows, claims Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari

SUKKUR: PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has slammed the PTI-led government for enacting a "secret" ordinance to "facilitate" Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.

The development comes a day after Pakistan had provided the Indian spy consular access for a second time and after the diplomats left without meeting him, Pakistan decided today to provide consular access for a third time.

The ordinance the PPP chair was referring to is The International Court of Justice Review and Reconsideration Ordinance 2020 that had been enacted on May 20 after the International Court of Justice's decision to allow Jadhav to appeal for mercy.

Under the ordinance, a review petition may be submitted to the Islamabad High Court within 60 days of the ordinance coming into effect. The 60-day time limit ends on July 19.

Jadhav had been offered the chance on June 17, 2020, but he had refused to avail it.

"The ordinance was introduced to facilitate Kulbushan. Despite the expiry of the ordinance's time period and the regular meetings of the Senate and National Assembly, it was never presented [in the House]," Bilawal said, while addressing a press conference in Sukkur on Friday.

The PPP chair demanded that PTI inform the nation as to why the ordinance was not presented in either, the Lower or the Upper House.

Bilawal, calling for the government's accountability in the matter, warned that "this will not be forgiven" and that it was another reason for the incumbent premier to step down from his position.

"Had the PPP introduced such an ordinance, the media would have made our lives miserable and the Difa-e-Pakistan Council would have staged a sit-in in Islamabad," he said.

Calling it an unprecedented move, Bilawal said that the government should have at least consulted the Opposition even if was forced into the decision.

"This government should have asked the people and sought their permission," he said, adding: "[Jadhav] had accepted that he was spying in Pakistan."

The PPP chair said that PTI had apprised the people of its party policy before coming into power. "Today when people are fighting for their lives, the government is enacting an ordinance for Kulbhushan behind our backs."

Talking about incarcerated PPP leader Khursheed Shah, he said that the party stalwart had strived for democracy and the rule of law his entire life.

"Today as Shah faces injustice, PPP hopes that the judiciary — for which PPP has struggled and its workers laid down their life — will give us justice and grant bail to Shah," he said.

Last year in September, NAB had arrested Shah from Islamabad over allegations that his assets are beyond known sources of income.

Deploring the "NAB-Niazi nexus", the PPP chair demanded that it should be stopped. "People look upon the judiciary for justice and the protection of their rights."

"Till a person's conviction, all the rights [granted in the constitution] should be given," he said, adding: "If rights are not granted, then it will [naturally] be perceived that the Opposition is being subjected to political victimisation."

Highlighting PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah's speech in the National Assembly on NAB and PTI's relationship, Bilawal said that Sana had accused the ruling party of blackmailing the anti-graft watchdog.

"How can [federal] ministers and their channels blackmail NAB to launch cases against political opponents or media owners — like Editor-in-Chief of Geo and Jang Group Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman," he asked.

"This is condemnable," the PPP chair added.

'Another reason why this PM must go'
Prior to the media briefing, the PPP chairman had taken his outrage to Twitter and demanded answers and accountability, terming it another reason for Prime Minister Imran Khan to leave his seat.

"What is this secret Kulbhushan Jadhav ordinance introduced by our selected govt without taking the country or parliament into confidence. Absolutely outrageous. We demand answers & accountability. Yet another reason why this PM must go," Bilawal wrote on Twitter.

Earlier in the day, the FO spokesperson had said that Pakistan has decided to provide third consular access to Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.

The spokesperson had also shared that Islamabad has informed New Delhi about the decision, adding that Pakistan has also suggested providing consular access without the presence of security personnel.

“Pakistan is awaiting India’s response,” said the spokesperson of the ministry.

The development comes a day after Pakistan provided the second consular access to Jadhav.

Jadhav, a serving commander of the Indian Navy associated with Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing, was arrested on March 3, 2016, from Balochistan on allegations of espionage and terrorism.

He was given a death sentence by a Pakistan military court on April 10, 2017.

Fazlur Rehman’s non-civil servant brother appointed Karachi’s Central DC

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s brother has been appointed the deputy commissioner of Karachi’s District Central, despite not being a CSS qualified officer.

People are criticising Zia-ur-Rehman’s appointment and calling it political. He has never held a post in Karachi.

He started off in KP as a PTCL division engineer before the 2007 MMA government. During that time the chief minister sent a summary to the governor to circumvent the rules to allow Zia’s appointment in the provincial management service.

From there he was appointed a section officer in Peshawar and moved to the establishment division in 2014. He was also appointed to other important posts later.

When the PTI came into power he was removed from his post and NAB began investigating how he was appointed in the first place without being a civil servant.

Some opposition members had also staged a protest in the KP Assembly against Zia’s appointment but nothing more was done.

As deputy commissioner he will be responsible for several government functions.

According to sources, his appointment was reportedly brought up during the last meeting between Asif Ali Zardari and Fazl.

MQM leader Kanwar Naveed Jameel has criticised the decision. He wrote a letter to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah asking him to withdraw the notification appointing Zia.

Jameel cited Clause 1,752 of the Supreme Court Monthly Review, 2013 and Clause 456 of the monthly review of 2015. The Supreme Court has banned the Sindh government from deputing anyone on government posts, he said.

The MQM leader also accused the provincial government of having ill intentions against Karachi residents by ignoring merit while appointing the DC.

Will Shri Mamoon Shareef criticise this political appointment or will he sit quiet as he usually does when his favourite political parties are involved in blatant corruption.

‘Kaptaan’ Imran Khan should take charge of helping rain affectees, Bilawal says in Mirpurkhas

PPP Chairman Bilawal Butto-Zardari on Wednesday urged the federal government and Prime Minister Imran Khan to “come and sit” with the people of the province who have been affected by the recent flooding and torrential rainfall instead of making “five-hour trips”.

Addressing a press conference in Mirpurkhas, where hundreds of thousands have been displaced due to monsoon rainfall, Bilawal said: “The prime minister should be seen standing with those citizens affected by the rains.”

His comments come a day after the federal cabinet decided against releasing funds directly to the provincial government for the victims of the flood and rain-hit areas. The federal government, instead, will utilise the funds itself. “We cannot give even a penny to Sindh for the flood victims unless we are told about the exact losses,” Information Minister Shibli Faraz had said during a press conference after the cabinet meeting.

Bilawal, speaking in Mirpurkhas, urged the premier to take charge as kaptaan by fulfilling the need for reconstruction, rehabilitation and relief. “We can’t leave our farmers and those affected by the rains helpless like this.”

Bilawal stated that recent rains have wreaked havoc in several parts of the country. “In Sindh, rainfall and floods have affected 2.25 million citizens. All of Pakistan will need to unite to deal with this national disaster so that we can provide relief to the people.”

He added that the recent rains and subsequent floods was not the only crises the nation has had to deal with. “The poor people of the province and of the country have been struggling under the mounting burden on their backs,” he said, citing the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic and locusts.

He added that because of these “historic rains”, extra support needed to be given to the people. “Agriculture is the backbone of the economy. When agriculture is affected, so is the country’s economy.

“The PTI’s manifesto mentions declaring an agricultural emergency which has not been done so far. After this historic rainfall and locust attacks, now is the time to declare an agricultural emergency to provide relief to farmers.”

He added that the provincial government was utilising all of its resources to address the problems being faced by the people. “We have exhausted our stock of tents. We are ordering more, but we know that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will have some.”

Those sitting in Islamabad, who can’t pinpoint Mirpurkhas on a map, don’t understand that it will take time to clear out the rainwater, he said. During this time, you have to provide aid to the people, he said.

“All of us will have to become one to provide help to those affected,” he said. “The Sindh government will stand by its people in need, but we will not be able to fulfill their requirements on our own. For that, all of Pakistan will need to become one.”

The prime minister had visited Karachi last week and in the presence of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, unveiled the Rs1.1 trillion package at the Governor House for Karachi’s chronic issues, including provision of clean drinking water, cleaning of drains and sewage and solid waste disposal within three years.

KARACHI: Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Thursday said the time has come for Prime Minister Imran Khan to start panicking as the opposition has launched an anti-government movement.

While addressing a virtual session of the PPP information secretaries, Bilawal said the PTI government has “failed” to deliver and now is the time for PM Imran Khan to “panic”.

He said the anti-people government of Imran Khan has nothing good for the people and it was only accusing the past government for its failures.

He said the PPP had played role in the establishment of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) like it did in the past in the formation of opposition’s Movement for Restoration of Democracy and Alliance for Restoration of Democracy.

Read more: Every PML-N MNA will resign when anti-govt movement reaches peak, says Khawaja Asif
The virtual meeting was attended by Dr Nafisa Shah, Senator Maula Bukhsh Chandio, Sindh ministers Saeed Ghani, Syed Nasir Shah, Murtaza Wahab, Sharjeel Memon, Barrister Aamir, Senator Sassi Pulejo, Sahhen Dar, Nazir Dhoki, Chaudhry Munawar Anjum, Palwasha Khan, Aajiz Dhara, Hassan Murtaza, Sarbuland Jogezai, Senator Rubina Khalid, Nawabzada Iftikhar, Sadia Danish and Javed Ayub.

‘Last nail in PTI coffin’
Separately, the PPP chairman also chaired a meeting to review the arrangement for the PDM’s planned public meetings and rallies in different cities of the four provinces with Secretary Information Dr Nafisa Shah, PPP Punjab President Qamaruz Zaman Kaira and Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar who called on him at the Bilawal House.

He said the formation of the PDM was an important progress emanating from the platform of the All Parties Conference (APC) hosted by his party and pledged that it would prove to be the last nail in the coffin of the ‘selected and crumbling’ regime.

Bilawal said it was the ripe time for the people of Pakistan to rise up and demolish the sandy castle of the selected regime built through intrigues and naked rigging and theft of public mandate.

‘PPP Punjab wants Bilawal to address Gujranwala rally’

Meanwhile, the PPP top leadership has advised Bilawal Bhutto to attend the PDM public rally in Gujranwala on October 16.

According to sources, the PPP senior leaders from Punjab wanted Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to attend the rally.

“A formal decision in this regard would be taken within a day or two,” they said.

The rally is being hosted by the PML-N and it would be the first public rally of the PDM against the government.

Does anyone pay attention to these “movements” anymore? Seems they are happening every other day.

I am all for movements to improve government but have no idea what the goal is, it hurts because it’s been ages since I’ve heard a non-PTI Pakistani politician talk about policy.

Just talk policy please!

That being said, there was a time when no one talked policy, so at least we’re making progress...

Pakistan: Imran Khan ‘lacks capability to run country’ says Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

He should resign and allow someone else to do the work in his place, says PPP chairman

https://gulfnews.com/world/asia/pak...ountry-says-bilawal-bhutto-zardari-1.74096309

somebody should ask Biloo sahib to ask his party and friends to resign. Best way to get rid of the govt. Only problem with that is it will trigger an election which IK would most probably win again. They are all talk and not provided a real alternative. i mean its not hard. The govt's policies are all there for them to counter and provide legitimate opposition. But they dont want to. They want IK to vanish, their criminal cases to dissappear and everything to go back to pre 2018 levels. Not happening ever.

LAHORE - PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday said that the PTI government was using state institutions as political props.

While addressing a press conference in Karachi, Bilawal criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan for reiterating that all state institutions, including the army, stand by him.

“I believe that Imran Khan should not use institutions, especially the army, as political props. He keeps saying ‘this institution is with me, that institution is with me’ everywhere. These institutions do not belong to a political party, they are Pakistan’s institutions,” the PPP chief said.

Earlier, Bilawal warned the government that several options for the opposition’s anti-government campaign are on the cards, including resignation from the parliament.

He said that his party had been criticising the government since day one and its facilitators. He said that political parties could no longer raise their voices in the “rubber stamp” parliament. Bilawal warned the government that “those who were not afraid of dictators will not be afraid of a cricketer.”

Siraj ul Haq dismisses possibility of joining opposition alliance
“The media is stopped [from criticising the government] and our interviews are censored,” he said. “Insha’Allah, all opposition parties, together, will put an end to this inept government.” The PPP chairman said that the country was failing on all fronts, including foreign and economic policy, as a “selected” government had been imposed on Pakistan.

Bilawal said that the incumbent government had gone so far in their “revenge policy that they filed sedition charges” against Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider. “The country can no longer bear the burden of this government.”

This government does not distribute the NFC award in a just manner, and that causes damage to the health sector, education sector, local governments, among others. The PPP chairman said that the people were helpless due to the current regime’s policies. “Such an authoritarian regime cannot last, their countdown has begun.”

Bilawal, responding to the federal government’s Pakistan Island Development Authority Ordinance, said: “No Pakistani who believes in the Constitution can tolerate that someone, through a presidential ordinance, overnight, tries to take over the islands of Balochistan and Sindh.” “We strongly condemn this act,” Bilawal said. The PPP chairman demanded that the government withdraw this “unconstitutional” ordinance. “Through such immature acts of a cricketer, the federation is damaged.”

Bilawal vows to send ‘puppet prime minister’ packing

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Saturday vowed to send “selected and puppet prime minister” [Imran Khan] packing along with his “coterie of corrupt people”.

While addressing corner meetings in Darial and Thor in connection with the upcoming election in Gilgit-Baltistan, he said that the premier violated the election laws by visiting the region and said that he cannot give a package for the region due just days ahead of elections.

Bilawal asked the gathering what Imran Khan has given to the people of G-B in the last two years. “He takes U-turns and is a liar. Where are his 10 million jobs and five million houses,” he questioned.

The PPP chairman said that Imran Khan is an “interim, puppet and selected prime minister who will be send packing with his coterie of corrupt people”.

Bilawal said that when the PPP will form the government in the region after the November 15 election, his party would provide local people jobs in Diamir-Bhasha dam project just like it did for the people of Thar in Sindh in Thar coal power project.

He said that former prime minister and founder of PPP Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had ended FCR and Rajgiri system and provided subsidy on food items, petrol and clothes.

Bilawal said that former prime minister Benazir Bhutto introduced democracy in G-B and allowed political parties to function whereas former president and co-chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari gave identity to the people of the region by appointing first governor, chief minister and also provided 25,000 people jobs.

Chief Election Commissioner G-B, Bilawal claimed, was siding with the “puppet government” and speaking against his party, adding that Imran Khan wanted to snatch the subsidy for G-B which Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had given to the people but “we will not allow him to usurp the rights of the people”.

“Today every section of the society is protesting against this puppet and selected government, from lady health workers to doctors and from traders to government employees.”

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari further said that he will not leave the region before the November 15 polls.

Bilawal Bhutto says time for talks over; will hold any discussion when there's no PM

LAHORE: PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said Monday the time for holding talks with the PTI government "is over" and that he would hold any potential discussion when there's no prime minister in the country.

Speaking to the media here in Lahore, the PPP chief said his party's philosophy and manifesto were only focused on Pakistan's poor people. The PTI regime, he added, did not feel the common person's pain and if the prime minister "cannot solve the problems of the people, then he should resign".

The PPP has a solution to the problems of the people, Bilawal explained, adding that Pakistan was currently fighting historical inflation and unemployment. People would be forced to commit suicide if their problems were not resolved, he stressed.

"We did not leave the people alone during our [PPP's] tenure. You're not buying from your farmers but from the world," he said, referring to the incumbent government's decisions.

With regard to the anti-government protests, Bilawal Bhutto said the upcoming "Long March" would take place no matter what and that any related decisions would be taken by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), a coalition of 11 Opposition parties that aims to remove Prime Minister Imran Khan's regime from power.

"We will take the people with us in the Long March and will snatch the resignations [from the government] once we reach Islamabad," he said, adding that there were no talks going on between the PDM and the Khan administration.

'Time for talks over'
"The time for talks is over, discussions will only take place now when there is no prime minister," the PPP chief said, warning that PM Imran Khan will not be able to escape if the Opposition's people reached Islamabad.

He further underlined how members of the National Assembly (MNAs) had the right to secret ballot. "When the government is in pain, we have a lot of fun," he added.

Speaking of his meeting with Shahbaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto said he had gone to offer his condolences to the PML-N president over his mother's demise. "The things that are being talked about in the media at present cannot be discussed in this environment," he said.

"We cannot talk about things that are being talked about in the media in police presence. There is no freedom in either the media or the Parliament," he added.

'Go home if you don't have solutions to people's problems,' Bilawal tells PM Imran

PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Thursday heaped scorn on Prime Minister Imran Khan's admission that his government suffered from a lack of preparation in its starting months, telling the premier that he should "go home" if he couldn't provide solutions to people's problems.

Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the Malir Expressway project in Karachi, Bilawal said Prime Minister Imran's remarks that his administration was undergoing "training" for a good part of its first year was a "joke" with the country.

"What was he doing in KP for seven years if he wasn't preparing [for the Centre]? How was the '22-year struggle' that we keep hearing about not helping in the preparation?" he asked, referring to the premier.

Bilawal's remarks come two days after Prime Minister Imran said that never should a new government come to power without doing its homework and without getting briefings.

“When I review my performance, we took three months only to understand [issues as] everything that we had been looking at from outside was altogether different after we came to power.

"I must also share, for one-and-a-half years we remained unable to even know the actual figures of different sectors, particularly the power sector. From one ministry at times the figures indicated we were performing very well and then sometimes some other figure showed we were not performing that well," he had said at an event in Islamabad.

Bilawal said Imran had promised to "eradicate corruption" in his first 90 days and end the country's difficulties within 100 days. "Now after [nearly] three years, you are saying it was the training? This is a joke with the people of Pakistan," he added.

Considering the potential of the Pakistani people and resources, he said, the state of affairs in Pakistan would be different "if our prime minister was even mildly competent".

The PPP chairperson alleged that Prime Minister Imran had only one answer when asked about resolving national issues: "What can I do?"

"Prime Minister sahib, if you don't have the solution to the people's problems, then your only recourse is to resign and go home."

The PPP leader said his party had the "solutions" and knew how to drive the nation out of economic hardship, adding that the PPP government too in its tenure had dealt with a global economic crisis and financial recession, as well as floods and terrorism.

"But during that economic crisis we never even once said 'What can we do?'. We never left the people orphaned for even a day," he said, adding that the PPP raised salaries, pensions and pays of soldiers despite the treasury being "empty".

Talking about the expressway project, Bilawal said it would be beneficial for the people, labourers and businesspeople of Karachi.

He said his mother and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto had introduced the concept of public-private partnership in the PPP's 1993 manifesto and the PPP government in Sindh had taken this vision forward.

"The projects carried out by the PPP across the country in public-private mode are more advanced than those of all other provinces and the federal government," Bilawal said, citing the "revolutionary" success of the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company in Thar.

He alleged that Sindh and other provinces were not being given "their fair share" and the National Finance Commission (NFC) award had not been renewed even though provinces had more responsibilities after the 18th amendment.

"But while we protest, we haven't sat down complacently in the disappointment of not receiving the funds; we came up with solutions for our people, one of which is the idea of public-private partnership."

Bilawal said even though Sindh's sales tax on services was less than that of other provinces, it was ahead of other provinces in revenue generation.

"This is because unlike the Centre, [we] don't use NAB, blackmail, torture and injustice for this resource generation but we encourage and incentivise the business community.

"And those who have missed their targets year upon year, have a record of failure and incompetence, they are lecturing us that we are inept provincial people who can't generate revenue," he said.

"They are taking unconstitutional steps and think they can police the provinces?" Bilawal added, referring to the PTI government's plans to review the mechanism of NFC Award distribution.

He continued while addressing the federal government: "The day provinces demand accountability from you, you will have nothing left, you have to move forward together with the provinces."

Bilawal said "the way Imran's government has abandoned the people, if the situation continues in these difficult circumstances then the nation's anger and passions will grow out of control."

LAHORE: Former president and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Zardari on Sunday warned that the PTI-led regime is likely to "make a huge blunder", putting Pakistan "in grave danger".

Speaking to the secretary-general of the PPP's Punjab chapter, Chaudhry Manzoor, during a phone call, Asif Zardari said the Opposition parties' coalition under the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) banner "is united and will strike the government from all directions".

"The PDM will use all options in turn to get rid of the PTI government," he said.

"The country is in grave danger and the [incumbent] rulers are likely to make a huge blunder," the former president said, adding that it is "crucial to send the government packing".

"The incompetence of these inept rulers may lead to a major accident in the country [and therefore] the next few months are crucial for the future of national politics."

Speaking of the ongoing pandemic, the PPP leader — whose son and party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari contracted COVID-19 in November 2020 and recovered a month later — stressed that the Khan administration would "no longer be allowed to hide behind coronavirus".

"They [government] could neither purchase the coronavirus vaccine nor could they help people during the coronavirus pandemic," he stated.

Comparing the PTI regime to his own government, Asif Zardari cited the Great Recession and said: "We increased exports from $19 billion to $26 billion despite the 2008 global financial crisis."

"We doubled the country's revenue, increased the salaries of employees by 125%. We bumped up government employees' pensions by 100%," he added.

Slamming the "incompetent" PTI government, he said that the rulers had "turned all indicators negative".

"I said in the past that these elected rulers will fall under their own weight. Now that they have crashed, only one last shove is needed.

"Together with the PDM, the PPP will send this failed and incompetent lot home," he vowed.

https://www.geo.tv/latest/336723-govt-being-shown-a-tough-time-even-with-oppositions-fewer-numbers-bilawal-claims

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Wednesday claimed that the government is being shown a "tough time" by the Opposition even with their fewer numbers, ahead of the Senate polls on March 3.

"We know we are descending down on the battlefield with fewer votes. We know it seems our numbers are low. But even with these small numbers, we are giving the government a tough time," he said, while addressing a press conference in Lahore alongside joint Opposition candidate Yousuf Raza Gilani.

He thanked all the Opposition parties for having decided to support Gilani on election day.

"InshaAllah, Senate elections will be a victory for democracy and for democratic candidates. And Yousuf Raza Gilani's win will usher in a new chapter of democracy," the PPP chairman said.

"And then, at the end of March, we will have a march," Bilawal added.

"The democratic journey for which we are all struggling will be taken forward [...] We are telling everyone: give this crumbling wall the final push."

Responding to a question by a journalist, Bilawal insisted that the Pakistan Democratic Movement stands united, "as it always has been". He said the PDM is only focused on fighting the Senate elections currently, and will only ponder over whether to go for a no-confidence motion after the polls.

To another query about whether PTI's Jahangir Khan Tareen, with his "aircraft" poses any threat to the Opposition, Bilawal said: "Well we won't be able to compete with an airplane but we will compete on the basis of our character and democracy."

He said voters must decide for the betterment of the parliament and they have this time a candidate who is a former prime minister. "Yousuf Raza Gilani (when he was premier) would respond to questions from the government and Opposition, come to the parliament, give everyone respect [...] you do this because you are the leader of the entire House, not your own political party," he said.

Pakistan's parliamentarians must choose — do they want a technocrat or democracy, he said.

"This is a test for the members of our assembly. Will you vote according to the people's expectations or out of fear of Imran Khan?" Bilawal asked.

When asked whether this move to fight the Senate elections, when the Opposition's numbers in the National Assembly are not in the majority, would mean the government being ousted through a lack of trust from its own members, Bilawal said: "I have always spoken of democracy and parliament and this is the field where we can fight. We believe no battlefield must be left vacant. We want the government to be changed through democratic means."

The PPP chairman said it was the incumbent government that used "other tactics", such as using National Accountability Bureau and "dictatorial tactics", against his own members and allies. "Such a thing may go on for a while but we all know if this country is to progress, it is with democratic means," he said.

"We must move forward according to the people's expectations and not because of pressure from some other quarters," Bilawal said.

He said that it seems institutions are playing a neutral role ahead of the Senate polls and he said that this must be welcomed.

The PPP chairman said PDM has been "working against the illegitimate, incompetent and unqualified government from day one".

"We are giving them a tough time in every field from the PDM platform and will continue to give them a tough time till our goal is achieved," he said.

Bilawal also spoke of the Charter of Democracy, saying he wishes for it to be implemented. He said he recognises it will be better for Pakistan and for Peoples Party as well.

The party chairman said that any amendment to the law or Constitution can only be brought through the parliament. He said after the Senate polls, the Opposition will work on election reforms.

He said the Opposition aims to bring a government that "instead of burdening the people lifts the burden off their shoulders".

"Our short term goal is to overthrow the government. The long term goal is the supremacy of democracy," Bilawal said.

https://www.dawn.com/news/1610658/beginning-of-the-end-no-one-can-save-govt-now-says-bilawal

PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari claimed on Thursday that the "beginning of the end" had started for the incumbent PTI-led government and it was "too late" for anyone to attempt to save the government now.

The PPP chairman was addressing a press conference in Islamabad along with Yousuf Raza Gilani, who won the hotly contested Senate general seat from Islamabad to defeat PTI's Abdul Hafeez Shaikh on Wednesday.

"Now this puppet spectacle won't continue, now this drama won't continue, [Prime Minister] Imran Khan will have to correct his behaviour," said Bilawal, before adding that it was too late to do so. "It is well and truly the beginning of the end and now no one can save this government."

Bilawal said the entire "puppet" government had come out yesterday and the way they were making noise and creating drama in attempts to "cover their situation, is in front of you" — referring to the press conference of Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi from Wednesday night when he, along with several other PTI leaders, announced the prime minister's intention to seek a vote of confidence in the National Assembly.

"As far as the PPP is concerned, we accepted [Prime Minister] Imran Khan's challenge that if we won these seats, then he would dissolve the assemblies, the National Assembly and announce new elections," said Bilawal.

Bilawal claimed the government was now running away from the challenge to dissolve the assemblies and that the announcement of the vote of confidence was a "new drama". According to Bilawal, the prime minister was a "coward and fears the elections because he fears the people".

The PPP chairman addressed the premier and said that at the very least, he should have submitted his resignation if he did not have the strength to announce new elections or dissolve the assemblies.

Bilawal said that Gilani's win over PTI's Shaikh had "shown the world" that the prime minister had lost the confidence of the National Assembly. "You have been rejected not only by the members of the opposition and the PDM but also by your own MNAs and allies' MNAs".

"Now you won't make these decisions, now the PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement) and I will tell you when and where the no-confidence motion will happen," he said, adding that the decision would be implemented through the PDM's consensus.

"We won't leave you [alone] or give you the NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance). You won't be able to run anywhere, we will follow you and we will confront you on the Senate chairman election and on every forum.

"Now the democratic forces smell blood and we won't leave you [alone]."

https://www.geo.tv/latest/338339-your-days-are-numbered-pdm-rejects-imran-khans-trust-vote-win

The leaders of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) on Saturday rejected Prime Minister Imran Khan's victory after the motion for a vote of confidence was successfully passed in National Assembly, saying they have now "exposed the puppet government".

Speaking to the media in Islamabad after a meeting between the alliance, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz lashed out at the PTI for the incident that took place outside the parliament building in which PML-N leaders were allegedly targeted by the ruling party supporters.

Maryam said that PM Imran Khan's days are numbered and he is trying to save his rule with whatever means possible.

"The vote of confidence is false,” she said, and alleged that the vote was secured at "gunpoint". She said that ahead of the vote, the parliament lodges had turned into a "bunker" with armed guards patrolling them.

Maryam added that the government has been defeated in the people’s court and it should accept that.

She praised Marriyum Aurangzeb for showing courage amid clashes with PTI workers earlier today.

“You have shown a lion's courage and made me proud,” Maryam said.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, meanwhile, said that Opposition nominee Yousuf Raza Gilani's victory in one Senate seat has "exposed the puppet system". "We have proved that the prime minister has lost the majority by winning one senate seat."

He claimed that the president has also accepted that the government does not enjoy the majority's support in the House.

"The PDM will now decide for how long the PM and Speaker will sit on their seats," he added.

The PPP chairman also regretted that the prime minister, who is the leader of the entire House — both government and opposition members — did not condemn the violence that took place outside parliament.

KARACHI:Following the dismissal of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's petition against the rejection of seven votes during the election of Senate chairman by Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has vowed that his party “would knock every door and raise the issue of electoral vote theft at every forum”.

In his response to the IHC's decision, Bilawal expressed the hope that Gilani, the candidate of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) – would eventually become the Senate chairman as he was the "genuinely and legally elected chairman".

The PPP chief, in a statement, said that the "theft" of Senate chairman elections through "foul play" by a presiding officer was a litmus test for the system as it may get replicated in the future thus undermining the very credibility of the democratic institutions.

Bilawal said his party believed in the supremacy of the Constitution, which bars calling into question the proceedings of the parliament or ruling of the speaker or the chairman, in Senate's case. "There is no question on the supremacy of parliament and constitution," he added.

He also said that PPP also respected the independence of judiciary and fought for it in the past but Gilani had challenged the decision of a presiding officer who rejected seven votes.

On March 12, the ruling PTI-backed candidates grabbed the top slots of the Senate in a “controversial contest” marred by the discovery of “spy cameras” in the polling booths.

In the polls, incumbent Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani was re-elected. He had defeated Gilani, a joint candidate of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) – an opposition parties’ alliance.

Ninety-eight senators had exercised their right to vote, out of which seven votes – most of which cast in favour of Gilani, were rejected. Sanjrani who had received 48 votes as opposed to 42 votes of Gilani was later declared the winner by the presiding officer, Senator Muzaffar Hussain Shah.

Earlier, the IHC judgement stated that the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) is the supreme legislative organ of the state and it represents the people of Pakistan and maintaining its dignity, respect and independence is of paramount importance and constitutional duty of other branches of the state.

"It is the highest forum for, inter alia, resolving national issues and political disputes. The parliamentary privileges, powers and immunities have been expressly incorporated in the Constitution," the ruling stated.

The court noted that the petitioner asserted that, as a joint candidate of PDM, he has the support of the majority of the worthy members of the Senate, adding that it is obvious that the majority cannot only remove current Senate chairman but also elect Gilani to the office of the chairman.

"If that is the case, then a democratic and adequate constitutional remedy is available to the Petitioner (Gilani). Adopting such a course of remedy would affirm the support of the majority of the worthy members of the Senate and, simultaneously, enhance the dignity and independence of the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament).”

The order further stated that the court is satisfied that an adequate constitutional remedy is indeed available for establishing that the seven worthy senators had actually intended to cast their votes in favour of Gilani.

"In such an eventuality the judicial branch ought to exercise restraint, notwithstanding the bar contained under Article 69 of the Constitution."

https://tribune.com.pk/story/2296661/all-pm-imran-thinks-of-is-new-means-to-acquire-charity-money-bilawal

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Sunday that rulers across the world think about benefiting their public, while "all Prime Minister Imran Khan thinks of is new means to acquire charity money".

"Prime Minister Imran Khan's 'change' is to provide relief to his businessmen friends and entangle the commoners in inflation," the PPP chief said in a statement released by the party.

He further said that raising voice for those being turned away from pharmacies for not being able to buy medicines is not [political] point-scoring.

"A 100 per cent increase in the prices of medicines is tantamount to depriving the common man the right to life," he added.

Bilawal lamented that PM Imran didn't seem to care about the parents who were unable to pay their children's school fee. "Inflation is at its highest ever peak in the country," he said, adding that "those talking against corruption have forced commoners to stand in long queues to get sugar."

The PPP chief said that free food centres won't end poverty. "You will have to do something about it," he said, accusing the premier of "trying to deprive a commoner, who already has to pay Rs68 for a 20-kilogramme bag of flour, of even a single meal".

He opined that the profiteering mafia spirals out of control and causes inflation when the ruler is corrupt.

The people, he added, will never forgive "the 'selected' prime minister who burdened them with taxes on the directions of the IMF."

Bilawal questioned that if three years aren't enough for the government to bring the "change", why has medical treatment become so expensive at the government-run hospitals in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in the last eight years.

"Imran Khan should take responsibility of not overcoming inflation and step down from his post," he concluded.

https://www.dawn.com/news/1621808/bilawal-says-legislation-wont-matter-if-establishment-continues-to-have-active-role-in-elections

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said on Monday that the most important and fundamental aspect for stopping electoral rigging was to stamp out the role of the establishment in elections, adding that elections would continue to be controversial no matter how much legislation was done if the establishment had an active role in the electoral process.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi flanked by other party leaders, the PPP chairman said that while there was need for legislation and transitional reforms in the electoral process, "the most important and fundamental aspect for stopping rigging in elections — legislation is certainly one aspect — is the role of the establishment in elections.

"If the establishment has an active role in the electoral process then no matter how much legislation we do, the elections will remain controversial."

He said that if the establishment could be kept at bay from the elections and if they could adopt an "impartial and apolitical attitude", then there would be benefit to electoral reforms and reduction to rigging in elections.

Bilawal added that no "active participatory role" of the establishment had been observed in the NA-249 by-election in Karachi and therefore "we would want, not only that we do legislation but also build on the consensus that the there is no interference of the establishment in electoral politics."

Addressing a question on the PML-N's demand to hand over the NA-249 polling boxes to the army's custody, he said that if the PML-N had any reservations on the by-poll results, then the relevant forums and methods were present for them to use and called on it to look to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

"Don't appeal to the army, we don't want that the PML-N has lost one seat so it is now appealing for the army to interfere in the electoral process.

"We think this is not only disadvantageous for the electoral process when the army has a role [...] we think not only are elections made controversial due to this but unnecessarily the Pakistan Army is also made controversial due to this," said Bilawal, adding that if it had the polling process in its control then if anyone had any complaint, they would start lobbing criticism on an institution which should be "uncontroversial [and] apolitical".

The PPP chairman said he did not support the PML-N's demand and called it "irresponsible". "PML-N should seriously think whether their stance is only due to individual issues or do they want to take a principled stance."

"Elections will be uncontroversial and fair and transparent when we can 100 per cent guarantee that establishment will have no interference."

He said the PPP had consistently worked on electoral reforms and "we think there is great need that we don't want a repetition of the rigging done in 2018 and before," adding that the PPP was ready to do any reform which needed to be done.

"The ECP can play a big and important role in this to engage political parties and gain their input. As far as the government is concerned, no one takes its stance seriously," said Bilawal. adding that it was a "strange concept" that the PPP attempts to sit and stop rigging with "the one who does rigging".

Earlier in the day, PTI leaders provided details on proposed electoral reforms in the country that would ensure transparency in the democratic process and level the playing field for all parties.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan had explained that 49 sections in the Elections Act 2017 were being introduced, deleted or amended. Some of the reforms included enabling the use of Electronic Voting Machines, extending voting rights to overseas Pakistanis and changes related to political parties. During the presser, Bilawal also lashed out at the PML-N and accused it of "making excuses" and "backing out" from pursuing a no-confidence motion against the government in Punjab and the Centre despite agreeing in the founding document of the Pakistan Democratic Movement to use democratic and parliamentary weapons against Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He reiterated that the PPP thought the opposition should oppose the government and its policies instead of engaging in opposition with each other. He questioned why the PML-N did not challenge CM Buzdar despite having the majority votes in Punjab.

"This is criminal political negligence that for three years, despite having such a big vote [bank], the PML-N didn't once try to make the government difficult for (CM) Buzdar," he said, adding that the PPP felt that maybe they had a covert deal with the government.

He said the PPP had shown the way on how they could take the Centre through Punjab "but you're not interested so you will have to answer for this."

Bilawal also addressed other topics and said the PPP was criticised too much on the issue of local bodies when Sindh was the only province to complete a term of its local bodies. "The coming local body elections will show, we are working on our law and local governments because we want them to have more power and resources so their own revenue generation is bolstered."

Bilawal was also questioned again on the reports of evictions by Bahria Town authorities in Karachi and responded that all activities had been halted and he still awaited a report on a the matter. He reiterated the call for what he described as Sindh's money, according to the Bahria Town Karachi case settlement, to be released so it could be spent on Malir and resolving issues such as structural drainage problems.

The PPP chairman also made note of the difficulties that journalists faced and said it was their right to receive their wages on time. Bilawal also talked at length about the Benazir Mazdoor Card and explained its benefits, the ideals of the PPP for launching it and the future path which was envisaged for it such as increasing its ambit to labour working in informal, private and agriculture sectors.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto on Thursday said that the government's deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) resulted in skyrocketing inflation and the depreciation of the rupee.

"The economy of the country would not have been destroyed had Imran Khan listened to us [on the IMF agreement]," Bilawal said. He added that the deal was a depiction of the fact that the premier does not have the sagacity of an able ruler.

"First, the government spoke in defence of its decision to not sign a deal with the organisation, then for delaying it, and now they seek a U-turn from that as well," the PPP chief stated.

According to Bilawal, "Imran makes mistakes, then he admits them, and then he repeats them. This is a country, not a classroom." He vowed that PPP will hinder the "premier's design to receive a further Rs1,200 billion in taxes from the masses."

"Imran increases the tariffs of power, gas, and petrol on the directives of the IMF and then he says he is independent in his decisions."

"We will not let the paid employees of IMF decide for the masses. The current inflation and joblessness are due to the policies of the incumbent government."

On Wednesday, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin ruled out an exit from the IMF programme, but unveiled his own pro-economic growth plan that contradicts the objectives of the fund’s stabilization agenda.

Bilawal asks PM Imran to 'reveal reasons' for repaying $3b to Saudi Arabia

Slams premier for 'travelling all over the world asking for charity'; says inflation resultant of economic policies

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto asked Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday to reveal the reasons behind repaying $3 billion to Saudi Arabia.

"Imran Khan has been traveling around the world with a begging bowl. Undoubtedly, you're experienced in asking for charity, but countries are not run on charity," Bilawal said in a statement released today.

He further said that, "Imran Khan borrowed from China to repay a loan of $3 billion to Saudi Arabia. Premier should reveal to the nation why he repaid the money to the kingdom."

The PPP chairman observed that "every Pakistani was paying a horrific price for Imran Khan's tsunami of change."

"Flawed economic policies have made the lives of a common citizen miserable," he said, adding that, "If your borrowed money will continue to be wasted because of corruption, the public will continue to be suppressed by inflation."

Each Pakistani, Bilawal added, is under the debt of nearly Rs0.2 million, while paying the price of Imran Khan's ineligibility.

"The government isn't even able to payoff billions of outstanding dues to China in view of the crisis due to the circular debt."

Bilawal further added that, "Foreign investors and governments are reluctant to make any investment during Imran Khan's government."

"The reluctance of the Chinese government to release $6 billion for ML-I railway track is a reflection of their lack of confidence on the PTI government," he maintained.

On Sunday, Bilawal censured the premier, saying the country was witnessing economic destruction due to latter's "anti-people ideology".

"Prime Minister, you used to blame corruption for Pakistan's state of affairs, [look how] the country has been destroyed economically due to your anti-people ideology," Bilawal said in a statement.

"You have amnesty schemes for the elite and food charity centres for the poor. This won't work." the PPP chairman added.

According to the PPP chief, "With a 30 per cent increase in the ratio, 85 million Pakistanis are standing on the edge of the poverty line."

He claimed that, "15 to 20 people are committing suicide every day due to the situation, while medicines have become costlier by 100 per cent. The poor have no one to look up to."

Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan will also flee the country like other lawmakers, including former prime minister Shaukat Aziz and former president Pervez Musharraf.

Addressing a press conference, the PPP leader alleged that the prime minister is "leading the country towards destruction in pursuit of Musharraf's goal."

"The poverty rate was 50% during the rule of Imran Khan's benefactor dictator Pervez Musharraf," Bilawal said, adding that massive loans are being taken from abroad on strict terms which will increase the economic woes of the country. PM Imran Khan's cabinet is squandering money from the national exchequer, he Bilawal said.

"Imran Khan's crime is not only inflation but also patronising the mafia that is causing inflation in the country," Bilawal said while lashing out, adding that the premier is accusing others but he should "take a look at his own deeds first".

This isn't the first time that the PPP chairman has criticised the premier. Earlier this month, he had said that every Pakistani paying the price of Imran Khan's 'Change Tsunami.'

In a statement, Bilawal had held the prime minister responsible for the dismal economic situation of the country.

Speaking about PM Imran Khan's recent trip to Saudi Arabia, Bilawal had said it was unfortunate how the same prime minister, who used to talk about not obtaining loans from other countries, was carrying the "begging bowl" with him everywhere in the world.

"Mr prime minister, surely you hold vast experience in collecting donations. However, countries do not run on donations alone," said the PPP chairperson.

Bilawal had said the prime minister had borrowed money from China to return Saudi Arabia's $3bn loan, adding that the incumbent government's inept economic policies had made life for the common man very difficult.

"If the money we receive from loans continues to get wasted in corruption, the common man will continue to bear the burden of inflation," he said. "Imran Khan, you should come out of your palace in Bani Gala," added the PPP chairperson.

Bilawal had said the government cannot return even the payments for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, adding that China was hesitant on issuing $6bn funds for the ML-1 project.

"The Chinese government's hesitancy [in issuing the funds] is in fact an expression of their lack of confidence in the PTI government," he had said, adding that foreign investors were afraid of investing in Pakistan.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday dubbed Prime Minister Imran Khan the biggest “economic criminal” in the country's history.

“When the economic crisis hit the world, the country's economy was not as bad as it became after Imran Khan came into power,” the PPP chief said in a statement.

Bilawal said If PM Imran was not stopped, he would set a fire of economic misery that continue to burn for decades.

“Imran Khan would leave behind stories of economic ruin and leave the country like [former premier] Shaukat Aziz and [former military ruler] Pervez Musharraf,” he added.

“We will not allow this to happen. Imran Khan will have to apologise to the common man for his economic crimes.”

He maintained said that by receiving large amounts of loans from abroad on strict conditions, the prime minister's cabinet was looting the national exchequer.

“His [PM Imran's] crime is not only to increase inflation but also to patronise the mafia responsible for it.”

Bilawal said the prime minister, who hurls accusations against others, should spend time on introspection.

“The people of Pakistan will never forgive him for his economic crimes.”

A day earlier, Bilawal rejected the federal government's claims of economic progress.

He said the PTI government was rubbing salt into people’s wounds by making ‘false’ claims about economic development.

“The government, which has left masses at the mercy of inflation and under whose nose millions are now below the poverty line, should feel ashamed making such false claims,” he remarked.

He claimed that the PPP government in Sindh had not only brought down the poverty ratio by 7.6% but today the per capita income in the province was the highest in the country.

He added that ever since the PTI government had come to power in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the poverty ratio in the province stood at 27% after an increase of 8.9%.

“The situation has come to a point where poverty ratio in the country is increasing, but Imran Khan is contemplating levying tax on the pensions of retired employees.”

He said the PPP strongly rejected the government’s plan to levy 10% tax on the pensions of retired employees.

“My party will continue to confront PM Imran’s anti-people policies on all fronts,” the PPP chairman pledged.

“Those who voted for the PTI have put the entire nation in a quandary.”

Bilawal predicted that PM Imran had no political future as he was responsible for the country’s economic crisis.

On Thursday, the premier while addressing an online event claimed his political opponents and “mafia” want to topple his government “because they are scared of his success”.

“Opponents seeing their political death... the mafia is scared of my government’s success,” he added.

The premier while recalling the 2018 general elections said his opponents had predicted that his party would face a defeat in the polls. “But we secured the two-third majority in Khyber-Paktunkhwa due to our performance and our opponents are wary of the same results in the upcoming elections at the national level.”

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Saturday said he will not let the ‘PTIMF’ budget approve from the parliament as an anti-public government cannot make a people friendly budget.

The PPP chairman said in his statement that passing of the budget made by International Monetary Fund (IMF) employees will be an attack against Pakistan’s sovereignty. He said Prime Minister Imran Khan announces before every budget that this will be the year of progress.

Bilawal Bhutto also bashed the incumbent government for taking loans over tough conditions and imposing unbearable taxes. He said the only parameter of progress in civilized societies is prosperity of the poor.

The PPP chairman went on to say that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) economic policies revolve around capitalists. He said only PPP’s policies represent public interests.

https://www.dawn.com/news/1629909/bilawal-to-write-to-isi-chief-drawing-attention-to-agencys-defamation-due-to-attacks-on-journalists

PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Thursday said he would write a letter to Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lt Gen Faiz Hameed to bring to his notice "how his institution is being defamed" through attacks on journalists.

He made the comment during a meeting of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights which was also attended by several journalists including Absar Alam, Matiullah Jan, Hamid Mir, Asad Toor and Asma Shirazi.

Alam also tweeted the announcement later, saying: "In the backdrop of the attacks against journalists and the wave of fear and horror among Pakistanis, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will write a letter to DG ISI [Lt] Gen Faiz Hameed to make him aware of the seriousness of the situation and the damage caused to the respect of the institution."

During the meeting of the committee, Bilawal, who is also its chairperson, also directed the interior ministry to submit a list of treason cases and cases registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca), 2016 against journalists, bloggers and vloggers so far.

A police official informed the committee that footage of the attack on Alam was sent to the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) but no progress had been made yet.

The official also said that the CCTV footage was "obtained through great difficulty" and it was blurred. A special investigation team had been formed to look into the incident, he added.

A similar statement was also made by the interior special secretary who told the committee he would brief them after receiving a response from Nadra.

Bilawal expressed concern at the attacks on journalists in the federal capital, saying embassies from all over the world were functioning in Islamabad.

"A negative message is sent to the whole world because of such incidents. The interior ministry should take this matter to its final conclusion," the PPP chairperson said.

Members of the committee also expressed resentment at Nadra's unresponsiveness, questioning what the institution was doing.

PTI MNA Ataullah, who is also part of the committee, pointed out that the footage was sent to Nadra two months ago but no report had been received yet. "Would it (Nadra) have taken this much time to report if an attack had happened on the interior minister or chairman Nadra?" he asked.

The interior special secretary objected to Ataullah's question, saying it was "not appropriate to talk this way". Thereafter, a war of words broke out between the MNA and the special secretary with both criticising the other. However, things calmed down after MNA Mohsin Dawar and another member intervened.

Bilawal asked the police officials present how many attacks against journalists had taken place in Islamabad so far and how many were properly investigated.

The officials responded that 50 attacks had been reported since 2018, 44 of which were of a personal nature. Of these 44 cases, challans of 20 had been submitted, five had been dismissed and 19 were under investigation, they added.

There were six high-profile attacks against journalists, they told the committee.

Bilawal said that if any institution was involved in attacks against journalists, it was condemnable and if the name of the institution was being "used wrongly", then it was also condemnable.

A briefing was also given on the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals Bill, 2021, which was presented in the National Assembly last month by the secretary for human rights.

The secretary informed the committee that an autonomous commission would be constituted under the proposed bill. Four members of the commission would also be from the journalist community while four members would be from press clubs established in provinces.

The bill would help in taking practical steps for the protection of journalists, the secretary added.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Bilawal thanked all the journalists who had participated in the meeting but noted that "no satisfactory answers" were given by police and government officials.

"We are thankful that the secretary and police officials presented themselves here today and gave answers. Unfortunately, we're not satisfied. The most attacks [on journalists] in Islamabad happened not in Ziaul Haq's era, not in [Gen Pervez] Musharraf's era but in Naya Pakistan. This is not only condemnable but is also a violation of the Constitution," he said.

He shared that a sub-committee had been formed that would not only regularly engage with the journalists who had been attacked and pursue the cases but would also review the journalists' protection bill.

"I expect that after this deliberation, we will get a more powerful bill which will be in your (journalists) favour."

Azad Kashmir elections to take place on July 25.

KOTLI: PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari vowed his party will form its government in Azad Kashmir.

https://www.dawn.com/news/1637621/ppp-preparing-to-deal-with-blowback-of-afghan-situation-in-karachi-bilawal

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said on Thursday that the political party was preparing for and devising policies for Sindh — particularly Karachi — to deal with any "blowback" from the worsening Afghan situation.

Addressing a press conference after a meeting at the Chief Minister House in Karachi, Bilawal said Pakistan would have to face tests in the coming days and the PPP was the only political party that could handle them.

"Pakistan will face a loss from the situation developing in Afghanistan and there will be a severe blowback. If anywhere the blowback and reaction will be felt and seen, it will be in Karachi which is home to one of the largest populations of Pakhtuns in the world.

"If the situation in Afghanistan worsens then there will be effects on our environment. We are doing our preparation and making our policies on how to do the kind of development and ready the kind of system in Sindh and our capital Karachi to deal with the coming influx and blowback," said the PPP chairman.

Bilawal stressed that there was a heavy responsibility to not only find solutions for the basic problems of the people but to deal with the "difficulties we are seeing in the coming tomorrow".

"God forbid we will have to see the time of extremism and terrorism again which we had gotten out of. So we will only be able to confront it when the PPP has a stake, has a government and representation."

Bilawal's comments came the same day as Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah chaired the 26th meeting of the apex committee where the Afghan situation and its potential fallout were discussed.

CM Shah ordered law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in the meeting to tighten security across the province and enhance their coordinated intelligence to deal with any fallout.

The chief minister said that the withdrawal of US troops and Taliban advance was likely to lead to a rise in insurgency that "may affect Pakistan, particularly Karachi in terms of terrorism and influx of illegal immigrants, therefore we have to be prepared to control the situation”.

Additional Inspector General-Special Branch Ghulam Nabi Memon too informed the meeting that clashes between the Afghan government and Taliban could bring illegal immigrants to Sindh, particularly Karachi.

CM Shah directed law enforcement agencies to speed up their targeted operations against terrorists. He also gave instructions for a close watch on banned organisations and unruly elements.

Additionally, the chief minister ordered for hateful content and suspicious activities on social media to be monitored. "Some elements will try to incite sectarian hatred, which should not be tolerated under any circumstances," CM Shah said.

Bilawal noted that there had been an improvement in administrative and development works but more political ownership and checks and balances were needed.

"I have given a special task to the chief minister to find a solution for all of Karachi where we can solve problems of people with all checks and balances," Bilawal said.

He added that a political representative should be selected in every city district who was familiar with the people's problems, could monitor the local administration and serve as an access point for the public.

Bilawal said the issues of water supply, transport and trash collection were the "most important targets" for Karachi's administration. He mentioned the various developments taking place to resolve the aforementioned issues.

"You and the Sindh government have to deliver on these three issues."

Predicting that the PPP would form the next government, Bilawal said Karachi's seats and its ownership were necessary for that to become reality. "This is a prime opportunity for the PPP," Bilawal stressed.

"It is very necessary for the country that a PPP [majority] government is made but also for Karachi that the PPP comes in front from this city so we can defend it and deliver its rights to its citizens."

Bilawal said injustices had been meted out against the city in the past and were still continuing, with the PPP the only political party to talk about them.

The PPP chairman called upon members of his party to stop their squabbling on a "war footing" for six to eight months. He said the general elections could happen at any time and the PPP had to start its preparations for them from today.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Tuesday the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is unstable and that the general elections could be held in the country at any time.

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Bilawal said that the fresh elections were the only solution to the problems facing the country, adding that the people all over the country believed that the PPP could redress their issues.

“The PTI government is unstable, [therefore] general elections can be held any time and we are fully prepared,” Bilawal told reporters. “We believe that new elections are the solution to the problems. People see resolution of their problems in the PPP,” he added.

The PPP chief said that the masses had seen the real face of change, which the PTI had promised. “The people have recognised the real face of change that is poverty, inflation and unemployment,” Bilawal said. “Now, people are joining the PPP at all levels.”

Bilawal claimed that the federal government was not giving full resources to the Sindh government. However, the PPP-led provincial government was serving the people despite all these conspiracies. “The PPP is working in the province despite limited resources.”

Responding to a question about the local body elections, the PPP chief said that his party would defeat both the PTI and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Karachi. He said that PPP was the only party which did not toe anyone else’s line, as it only followed wishes of the people.

About the opposition parties, Bilawal said that he respected Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the president of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). He added that the opposition alliance was winning until the PPP was part of it.

“We defeated the government by participating in the by-elections,” he said. “If the opposition is serious, then bring a no-confidence motion against [Punjab Chief Minister] Usman Bazdar and [Prime Minister] Imran Khan.”

The PPP chairman expressed his regret, saying that the prime minister had a lenient attitude towards terrorists. “The government should reconsider its policy aimed at eradicating terrorism from the country and end its leniency towards terrorists,” he said.

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday announced holding protests against inflation on October 29 in front of local press clubs in districts across the country.

The Bhutto dynasty scion, while chairing a meeting of party leaders and workers, said that the issue in which Prime Minister Imran Khan gets involved “is not change but destruction”.

“Imran Khan has taken away the freedoms that have been bestowed upon the people under the Constitution,” Bilawal said, adding that from sanctity of the vote to freedom of speech as well as that of the media, “Imran tried to snatch it all”.

Bilawal said that the people of Pakistan were going through a difficult period due to inflation.

“We do not do politics for power ... our politics revolves around solving public problems,” Bilawal added.

He said that his party had protested from day one against the PTIMF – a term used by the PPP to describe the deal going on between the ruling PTI and the International Monetary Fund for the release of the remaining $6 billion loan – budget.

He said announced that on Friday (October 29) his party would hold protests against inflation in front of all press clubs in districts across the country.

His last manifesto involved excessive borrowing and offering to solve unemployment by giving people jobs in public institutions..essentially borrow then give to your jiyalas. The man is a security threat for the country like his mum was.

Launching a fresh verbal attack on Prime Minister Imran Khan-led federal government, PPP co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari said on Monday that repeated ‘experiments’ had thrown the country into turmoil.

Speaking to the media in Nawabshah, the Pakistan Peoples Party leader said that only his party had what it takes to run and manage the country’s affairs, Express News reported. “PPP has successfully dealt with every challenge thrown at it in the past… and we are still ready [to run the country’s affairs],” he said.

“First let go of these rulers, then talk to us, then we will show you how to run this country.”

The former president said that there was a crisis of sugar and flour during former military ruler Pervez Musharraf government as well and sugar and flour were being imported. “We ended the crisis within a year of coming to power and started exporting these items,” he maintained.

“Whoever comes against the people's power, whether he is Sardar or Mir or Pir, everyone should remember that the people's vote is ours and the time to come belongs to the PPP.”

In a statement a fortnight ago, the veteran politician had warned that some foreign elements were conspiring to disintegrate Pakistan.

"The world wants to break Pakistan," he said, assuring the workers that PPP will fight against everybody for the sake of the country.

"We want to make Pakistan a successful country for generations to come," Zardari said and added that a person who is not ready to breathe his last in Pakistan does not have a stake in the decision of the country.

"We belong to this land and we will die here," he had reiterated.

Pakistan Peoples Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said that he is going to confront the de facto ruling elite of Pakistan by taking them head on in their stronghold in Lahore.

"I am going to Lahore where I will pitch tents and confront them," Zardari said in Tando Allahyar district on Thursday.

He did not clarify whom he will be challenging in Lahore politically because Islamabad’s seat is of the federal government. Lahore is generally considered a stronghold of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. "They won't stop unless we confront them there [in their bastion].

"They are one and the same who sometimes put on one appearance and at other times, some other appearance," he said without specifying anyone.

"God willing, we will confront them next time. There will be a war against them led by the people,” he said. “The people will win that war."

Some problems are going on between the PPP and the federal government. "In politics, the problems continue to exist."

Zardari said the people ought to move forward, adding that the PPP’s governments have been delivering for the poor people for a long time.

He credited his government for building roads, channels and other infrastructure projects. "The PPP government has planned and executed the projects which aren't even in the imagination of the people.

"I vow and pledge that I will never stop flooding people. People are being exploited for centuries and it is not a new phenomenon. Former prime minister and PPP chairman Zulfikar Ali Bhutto always served the poor people,” he added.

He said the new generation leadership of the PPP led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari will continue to serve the people.

AZ the crook needs to do this. But if he goes to Lahore SS will drag him through the streets with his laundering rope

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday announced that his party will launch a decisive movement against PTI-led government on January 5, 2022 with a rally in Lahore – the former bastion of PPP.

“Time has come to initiate a war against the puppet regime,” He said while addressing a public gathering organised to mark the 14th death anniversary of slain former premier Benazir Bhutto in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, a small town of Sindh’s Larkana district.

“We need to fulfil the dream of Benzair Bhutto and revive this party across the country to restore the rule of real democratic forces,” Bilawal told party workers.

Bilawal said the country was facing multiple challenges including inflation and “bad governance” because elections in the country had been “rigged through different modus operandi”.

“There is no freedom of speech, and no real democracy in the country... we restored the democracy in the country and restored the 1973’s Constitution in the shape of 18th Amendment,” he remarked.

Bilawal said his party empowered the provinces of the country in line with the vision of late PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a step which he said enabled the last PML-N government to build projects like Metro Bus and Orange Line train in Lahore. “We made the provinces financially autonomous through NFC [National Finance Commission] award,” he maintained.

The PPP chairman said people of the country were struggling to make ends meet and poverty and unemployment had reached historic high during Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government.

“People’s hardships and economic woes of the country will never end as long as the country is being ruled by puppet rulers,” he remarked.

While referring to the media reports, Bilawal displelled the speculations that the PPP was entering into any deal with the establishment to come into power. “PPP does not believe in politics of deals. We only rely on people’s support. We can never resort to non-democratic politics,” he insisted.

Bilawal while urging the party leaders to take steps to revive the party in different parts of the country said that he will soon visit Punjab to launch an anti-government movement.

“Time has come to announce a war against this puppet government… we will announce movement to overthrow this government from Lahore [on January 5] where the foundation of this party was laid down.”

Bilawal said only PPP can topple the PM Imran-led government with the support of the masses and resolve the issues of the masses. “We will form the next government and elect our chief ministers in all provinces,” he told the charged gathering.

Former president and PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari in his brief address said, “Being poor is not written in the fate of the people of Pakistan”.

Zardari without naming anyone said due to some “stupid individuals, rich country like Pakistan” was reeling under economic crisis.

He said PPP will soon come into power and under the leadership of Bilawal resolve the issues of the masses.

ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari censured the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government on Wednesday over the mini-budget that proposed ending tax exemptions on various goods to generate over Rs350 billion in taxes.

Speaking during a session of the National Assembly, the PPP MNA said the mini-budget was proof that the government was confused about the economy. “We had said it from the very first day that economic confusion was akin to the death of economy,” he said.

The PTI government created hardships for people by initially saying that it wouldn’t go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Bilawal said, adding that when they were forced to seek IMF’s help they struck a poor deal. “We said it then that the ‘PTI-IMF’ budget would create difficulties for the poor segments of the society,” he added.

The PPP chief recalled that PML-N President and National Assembly Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif had proposed a ‘charter for economy’ in 2019 and a similar proposal was floated by former president Asif Ali Zardari as well, but the government didn’t listen. “You ignored these suggestions and made unilateral decisions and now the nation can see the results,” the PPP chairperson added.

“Had you listened to Shehbaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari this would have benefitted you as you’d be representing Pakistan, not just a government or a political party,” Bilawal added. “But you chose to sacrifice common people at the altar of your ego,” he added.

Bilawal said that never in the history of Pakistan had there been so many negative economic indicators. “When we were fighting a war, when the country split into two, or when it was facing sanctions, the economic growth never hit a negative 0.4,” he said.

"The PTI has broken all records," Bilawal remarked. “Naya Pakistan means unemployment, poverty, and inflation,” he said, adding that this was not “tabdeeli" (change) but “tabahi” (destruction).

He said the government had promised people economic development and no taxes, but it is proposing a “tsunami of taxes in January”. This budget will further result in unemployment and inflation, he said, adding that slashing the development budget by Rs250 billion will have an impact on every level.

He said, “A government voted into power by the public takes them into consideration before making such decisions, but those who come to power with others’ help do not listen to people, but the IMF.”

According to Bilawal, the PTI will not be able to ask for votes amid such a poor show. “The people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have given you the first glimpse,” he said, referring to PTI’s defeat in the K-P local body polls.

The increase in petroleum prices as a result of the mini-budget will increase inflation, the PPP chief said, adding that taxes on 1,000cc vehicles were being increased by 100pc. “Vehicles, petrol, and cycles – everything has been made expensive,” he said, adding that the government is also proposing taxes on laptops and mobile internet.

“Shehbaz Sharif [as Punjab CM] used to distribute laptops among students, but instead of doing that you have imposed taxes on them,” he added. Bilawal said the government imposed further taxes on electronics being made in Pakistan. He said the government was committing “economic murder” of farmers; along with the mini-budget, the price of fertilisers has also increased.

Pakistan was an agricultural economy but the government ruined the national economy through its successive budgets, he added. “We had heard of enmity towards people and the poor, but this government has stooped down to enmity towards the country,” he added.

'Vacate PM's seat if you're confident of winning polls', Bilawal challenges Imran

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday challenged Prime Minister Imran Khan to vacate his seat and announce snap elections if he was confident that people will vote for him again but added that the "coward" prime minister will not do that.

Addressing a ceremony in Multan, he said that his party was all set to hold the long march, scheduled for February 27, against the "incompetent" rulers and will take the prime minister head-on after reaching Islamabad.

"Imran Khan has been lecturing us... today, I challenge him that if he's not a coward then leave the prime minister's post and announce the election date... we will not need to carry out the protest march then," he added.

Bilawal further added that if Imran Khan was so confident that the people were going to vote for him again then he should announce early elections, “but he knows that the people were fed up with him”.

He said that even after three years in power, PM Imran was still harping on his corruption mantra and people have stopped listening to the same record again and again.

The PPP chairman was referring to PM Imran’s speech he delivered as he launched the Sehat Insaf Card in Faisalabad earlier today. He came down hard on Bilawal for refusing to implement the health card scheme in Sindh.

PPP government in Sindh, the premier said, did not realise in what conditions the people of rural Sindh were living in, adding that the former president, Asif Ali Zardari, was buying off politicians with “stolen wealth”.

According to PM Imran, he only joined politics to rid the country of these two “corrupt families” as Pakistan has no future till "these people are in power". He said the rule of law and a welfare state were the only ways that Pakistan could progress, adding that some lawyers, however, wanted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who “looted” the country, back in power.

“They want the lifetime ban on him revoked so that he can return to power and plunder it again,” the PM said, adding that states are not destroyed with bombs but making crimes like corruption acceptable.

The premier also commented on recent contacts between the opposition parties, saying they were holding meetings because they “are afraid of Imran Khan”. "They know I will put them in jail eventually," he added.

Bilawal, while responding to the prime minister’s scathing attack, said: "They [the hybrid regime] tried to create false [corruption] cases against us but they're yet to prove anything in court”. “According to Transparency International, Pakistan’s most corrupt government is currently sitting at the Centre,” he added.

The PPP chairman said that during the tenure of former army chief General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, “many such cases were created against us but we were innocent then and we are also innocent now”.

"Benazir Bhutto was declared innocent and the dictator has been declared a criminal by the courts... the people of Pakistan will never forgive Imran Khan [for what he has done]," he remarked.

He further said that his party will continue to protest against the "selected" rulers until the people of Pakistan are relieved from such incompetent people.

No one takes this clown seriously. IK has achieved more in 3 years than this selected idiot and his family have done in 50. Look at the pathetic state of Sindh and the looting of state coffers by his family

Zardari using the proceeds of the Fake Bank Accounts Money Laundering Scheme from Sindh Bank and Summit Bank to buy out IK's Allies i.e. PMLQ and MQM

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday maintained that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s mantra of “eradicating corruption” had lost all its credibility the same way as that of his” mentor”, former military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf.

“Imran Khan will face a fate similar to that of General Musharraf,” Bilawal told a charged crowd at PPP activists’ convention in Multan.

The PPP chairman challenged the premier to arrest him and his father, party co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, as well as his sister, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, if he had the courage as they were all in the country.

He claimed that his grandfather Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, his mother Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and father Zardari were exonerated in “fake corruption cases”.

The scion of the Bhutto dynasty claimed that PM Imran had committed a great injustice to Multan by not awarding a certificate to Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who hailed from the city, while distributing performance certificates among his “lackeys”.

“On one hand, the government boasts about a successful foreign policy and the recent Chinese visit but on the other, deprives the foreign minister of a certificate.”

Bilawal said the central executive committee of his party had announced a war against this “incapable, selected and puppet” government.

“Every activist of the party is a soldier in this war,” he added.

The PPP chairman said his party had kicked off its protests all over the country on all issues including the petrol, gas, sugar and urea crises.

“The PPP held a farmers and tractor march for the rights of the growers, who provide food security to the country.”

He said the march through which the premier would be held responsible for the economic woes of the people would begin on February 27 from Karachi and make its way towards Islamabad.

“We will not let the ‘selected’ to cause more harm to the people of Pakistan. We have to contact every person, who has ever raised the slogan of ‘Jeay Bhutto’, and ask them to support the party and the people of Pakistan.”

He instructed the party activists to take his message to former workers and supporters that the son of Benazir Bhutto had come out on the streets to save the country and change its fate.

Bilawal said the PPP’s long march would pass through the entire country.

“We will inform the people that the Transparency International has declared this selected government the most corrupt in the history of the country. Every corrupt of the country is sitting next to [PM] Imran.”

The PPP chairman claimed that the premier had given a certificate to the minister who had halted the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

“He also handed over a certificate to the person, who had promised to create a new province. He gave another certificate to a person, who was removed from one ministry and now is the planning minister.”

Bilawal claimed that PM Khan had expressed his lack of confidence in all the ministers in his “huge” cabinet.

“The people are bearing the brunt of his ‘incapable’ cabinet. Enough is enough.”

Bilawal said the success of the long march was already apparent to all. “One of Imran's friends has been disqualified,” he said, referring to former party minister Faisal Vawda.

“Now the government's allies are also changing their views. We will pass through the constituencies of the allies and tell them the verdict of the people. We will expose every facilitator of Imran Khan on the way to Islamabad. When we bring the no-confidence motion [in parliament], the world will see who is with him and who is not.”

Alluding to PML-N, Bilawal said the former friends had a change of heart over the no-confidence motion.

He said with their march “people would give their vote of no-confidence”.
